Frank E. Dick, a retired examiner at the Coast Guard Regional Exam Center in New Orleans, died Saturday of complications from surgery at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. He was 60. Mr. Dick was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and lived in Delta, Colo., and in Patterson since 1980. He was a Navy veteran and had served in the Coast Guard. He was a former marine instructor with Young Memorial Vo-Tech School in Morgan City and a personnel representative with Seacor Marine in Bayou Vista. He was a member of Bayou Vista Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Darla Lee Dick; two sons, Robert M. Dick of Sacramento, Calif., and Michael S. Dick of Millersville, Md.; and eight grandchildren. A memorial service will be held today at 3 p.m. at Bayou Vista Baptist Church in Bayou Vista. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Francis "Mary" Rice, a homemaker, died Thursday of a stroke at Meadowcrest Hospital. She was 51. Ms. Rice was born in Lake Providence and lived in New Orleans for more than 30 years. She was a graduate of Joseph S. Clark High School and the American College of Health Vocations nursing assistant program. Survivors include two sons, Reggie and Lonnie Rice; three brothers, Roy Williams and Melvin and Calvin Rice; four sisters, Dorothy Tillman, Linda Williams and Bertha and Glenita Rice; and eight grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at Gertrude Geddes Willis Funeral Home, 2120 Jackson Ave. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn Park.

Rose Mary Joseph, a retired receptionist for Jefferson Guaranty Bank, died Nov. 2 of complications from diabetes at Kenner Regional Medical Center. She was 61. Ms. Joseph was born in Hamburg and lived in Avondale. She was a choir member at Little Zion Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Herbert Bryant; a daughter, Marie B. Ataliede; two brothers, Jimmy Thornton and William Bryant; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral was held Saturday at Little Zion Baptist Church in Avondale. Alexander Steven "Xander" Cain, an infant, died Monday of an apparent drowning at his home. He was 20 months old. Alexander was born in LaPlace and lived in Destrehan. Mr. Dupuy was born in New Orleans and lived in Crown Point for the past 16 years. He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Adeline K. Dupuy; four sons, Frank Dupuy Jr. and Donald, Ron and Gary Dupuy; two stepsons, Eric and Ivan Valentino; a daughter, Fawne D.
