Michael Ray Mixon Sr., a warehouse manager for Standard Coffee Service in New Orleans, died Tuesday of undetermined causes at his home. He was 48. Mr. Mixon was born in Anchorage, Alaska, and lived in New Orleans before moving to Carriere, Miss. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Mixon; a son, Michael Mixon III of Destrehan; a daughter, Melissa Mixon of Destrehan; his father, Ray Mixon of Paint Lick, Ky.; his mother, Madine Pickett of Warner Robins, Ga.; two sisters, Debbie Reeves of Helen, Ga., and Tammy Pickett of Warner Robins; and a grandchild. A funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at Picayune Funeral Home in Picayune, Miss. Burial will be in Restlawn Park in Avondale.

Ernest Kelley, a sheet metal journeyman, died Thursday of complications from a heart attack at East Jefferson General Hospital. He was 59. Mr. Kelley was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 55 years. He was a member of Sheet Metal Union Local No. 11. He had been a reserve officer for the Kenner Police Department. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Retif Donnelly Kelley; a son, Errol "Sonny" Donnelly; a daughter, Erin Donnelly Fremin; his father, Robert Grevis; and four grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at 2 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will be private.

James Richard "Jim" Naquin, a chemist for Morton and Mitten, died Saturday of cancer at Terrebonne House. He was 71. Mr. Naquin was born in Monaca, Pa., and lived in Houma. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam and Korean wars. Survivors include a brother, Larry Naquin of Millington, Tenn., and four sisters, Betty Lou Conrad of Aliquippa, Pa., Shirley Garren of Georgetown, Pa., Marilyn Vass of Phoenix and Kathleen McKinny of San Jose, Calif. . A Mass will be said today at 11 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Bayou Vista. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Morgan City cemetery. Charles N. Smith Sr., a taxicab driver for White Fleet, died Oct. 30 at Charity Hospital of injuries suffered in an automobile accident. He was 60. Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a member of the Brotherhood at Progressive Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Christine Smith; a son, Ismail El-Shaakir of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; a daughter, Tiffany Smith; a brother, Fred Smith; and three grandchildren. Helen F. Frantz, a homemaker, died Sunday at Northshore Regional Medical Center. She was 89. Ms. Frantz was born in Seaside Park, N.J., and lived in Slidell for the past 26 years. Kaufmann; three daughters, Phyllis K. Bourgeois, Carolyn K. Nolan and Sharon K. Pertuit; 14 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. Thyria Hughart Needham, a retired speech therapist, died Saturday at Slidell Memorial Hospital. She was 94. Ms. Needham was born in Iowa and lived in Slidell for the past 25 years. She received a bachelor's degree in speech therapy from Iowa State University. She was a member of The American Speech and Hearing Association. Survivors include a son, Michael D. Needham; a daughter, Maureen N. Aldrich; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Hampton City cemetery in Hampton, Iowa. Mr. Chester was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from St. Augustine High School and attended Southern University at New Orleans. He was an Air Force veteran.
