Anne Mae Bailey Perry, a homemaker, died Monday of congestive heart failure at her home. She was 54. Mrs. Perry was born in Raceland and was a lifelong resident of Gretna. She was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church and its choir. Survivors include her husband, Clarence Perry; a son, Jeremy Perry; three daughters, Shebrina Perry-Mabens, Danniell Perry Taylor and Jaynell Perry ; two brothers, Horace and Howard Bailey; a sister, Alberta Bailey; and nine grandchildren. Willie C. McRae Sr., a retired employee of U.S. Gypsum Co., died Nov. 22 of respiratory failure at Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital. He was 68. Mr. McRae was born in Yantley, Ala., and lived in New Orleans for the past 48 years. He was a member of Gaza Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a member of the Brotherhood. Survivors include his wife, Daisy Gordon McRae; two sons, Stanley and Willie McRae Jr.; two daughters, Beverly McRae Harris and Cynthia McRae Thomas; two brothers, Al Junior and Curtis Edward McRae, both of Yantley; two sisters, Jessie Mae Collins of Meridian, Miss., and Daisy Safford of Inglewood, Calif.; and 13 grandchildren. John Lee Nealy, a retired assistant principal at Carver Middle School, died Monday at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. He was 88. Mr. Nealy was born in Houma and lived in New Orleans for the past 79 years. He was a graduate of McDonogh No. 35 Senior High School and Dillard University. He attended Howard University and Louisiana State University, where he received a master's in education. He was a member of the First African Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher. He served at the Criminal Court Building, Conrad Playground Committee, the 17th Ward Improvement Association, Carrollton-Hollygrove Center and as a state employment counselor. Survivors include his wife, Felicia Hatter Nealy; two sons, Tyrone and Carl Nealy; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Louis "Big Lou" Alexander, a retired longshoreman, died Wednesday of a stroke at St. Claude Medical Center. He was 60. Mr. Alexander was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include two sons, Harry Handy and Louis Alexander Jr.; two stepsons, Stanley and Brian Hammond; his mother, Rosa L. Boyd; three brothers, Oscar A. Efrain Irias Duron, a retired cabinetmaker, died Friday at St. Charles General Hospital. He was 79. Mr. Duron was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and lived in New Orleans. He was a member of the American Legion, the Carpenter Union, Agustin Disdier Lodge, Cervantes Lodge No. 5, New Orleans Consistory of Louisiana No. 32 and the Arab Patrol and Tin Lizzie groups of Jerusalem Temple of New Orleans. He was a retired member of the New Orleans Soccer Referee Association. Leroy A. Choina Jr., a contractor, died Nov. 20 of cancer at Apollo Hills Nursing Facility in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was 49. Mr. Choina was born in New Orleans and lived in St. Petersburg. Choina of Broken Arrow, Okla.; two brothers, Michael Choina of New Castle, Ind., and Shane Choina of Chalmette; two sisters, Cheryl Choina Simoneaux of Terrytown and Cindy Folse of Crown Point; and a grandson. Rosalie M. Tebault, a retired manicurist, died Saturday at Dixon Medical Center in Covington. She was 93. Mrs. Tebault was born in New Orleans and lived in Lacombe for the past eight years. She was employed at the Fairmont Hotel Barber Shop and Royal Orleans Barber Shop. She was a member of the St. Tammany Council on Aging. Survivors include a son, Harry S. Clayton Crooks, a welding contractor, died Monday of internal injuries suffered in a fall from a drilling barge in Oakville. He was 63. Mr. Crooks was a lifelong resident of Deville. He was a member of Holloway Baptist Church and New Orleans West Bank Elks Lodge No. 2496. He was a Navy veteran. Joseph Emile Bourda Jr., a retired electrician, died Thursday at Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 81. Mr. Bourda was born in New Orleans and lived in Slidell before moving to Bay St. Louis, Miss., in 1988. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post No. 139 in Bay St. Louis and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4808 in Clermont Harbor, Miss. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local No. 130 and a parishioner of St. Clara Catholic Church in Waveland, Miss. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Davis Bourda; three sons, Frank, Kevin and Robert Bourda; two daughters, Denise B. Cramer and Aileen B. Frashier; three sisters, Helen Bourda, June B. Herbert Jahncke, 92, civic leader, '66 Rex
Herbert Grant Jahncke, a New Orleans civic and business leader who reigned over Carnival as Rex in 1966, died Friday at his home in Covington. He was 92.
Mr. Jahncke was born in New Orleans and attended high school at New Orleans Academy. He attended Washington and Lee University, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and graduated summa cum laude and as valedictorian.
He was Navy lieutenant junior grade for two years.
He attended Harvard University for two years before returning to New Orleans to work in the family business, Jahncke Services Inc. He became the firm's president and chairman of the board of directors in 1965.
Among his contributions to numerous New Orleans organizations, he was on the City Park board of directors from 1951 to 1957 and its president in 1959, campaign chairman for the Cultural Attractions Fund of Greater New Orleans for 1966-67, president of Delgado Museum of Art for 1960-61, a member of the board of directors of International House for 1966-67, and president of the Parkway and Park Commission of New Orleans from 1965 to 1968 and in 1971.
His civic activities included being a member of the Board of Governors for Ochsner Hospital and campaign chairman for the United Fund in 1955.
He was president of the Ready Mixed Concrete Association in 1953, president of the Southern Builders Supply Association, and vice chairman of the alumni fund drive for Washington and Lee in 1972-73.
He belonged to the Boston Club, Carnival Kings' Club, Pickwick Club, Stratford Club and various Carnival organizations. He also was a member of Louisiana Lodge No. 102, F&AM;, becoming past master in 1942.
When he was 65, Mr. Jahncke was the eldest participant to spend a month with Outward Bound in Minnesota. He initiated a sculling group that rowed the New Basin Canal; hiked the Appalachian Trail with his wife, Carol Saunders Jahncke; canoed in Canada; bicycled in Vermont; and planted an acre of muscadine and blueberries.
"He was physically and mentally a superior person," Carol Jahncke said. "He got the most out of his turn here on Earth. I wish he was back again."
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Walter Jahncke, Robert Jahncke and Herbert Jahncke Jr.; a sister, Louise J. Stevens; a brother, Donald E. Jahncke; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 3:30 p.m. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Garden in Covington. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home of Covington is in charge of arrangements.
