Orange Smoot Jr., a molder at Lockheed Martin, died Thursday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on U.S. 11. He was 51. Mr. Smoot was born in DeKalb, Miss. and lived in Slidell for 43 years. He was a graduate of Salmen High School and attended Southern University in Baton Rouge. He was a sergeant in the Army. Survivors include his wife, Iris Torregano Smoot; a stepson, Keith Williams of Augusta, Ga.; two daughters, LaShaun and Lacie Smoot of Conyers, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Denise Williams of Augusta; his father, Orange Smoot Sr.; his mother, Velma Roberson Smoot; his grandparents, Louise Anderson of Alabama and Author Roberson; three brothers, Arthur, James and John Smoot; a sister, Edna Despenza; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Genevieve Catholic Church, 58189 Louisiana 433, Slidell. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Slidell Memorial cemetery. Doyle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bruce Butler, a technician for Safelite Auto Glass, died Monday of undetermined causes at Memorial Medical Center. He was 38. Mr. Butler was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from John McDonogh High School. He was a member of the Veteran Umpires Association, officiating at local baseball games and other sporting events. Survivors include his wife, Benita Cochran Butler; a daughter, Logan Samantha Butler; his father, Joseph Butler Sr.; his mother, Marva Diaz Butler; three brothers, Harry and Keith Butler and Joseph Butler Jr.; and two sisters, Shelia Sheppard and Denise Pugh. A Mass will be said Saturday at 11 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2022 St. Bernard Ave. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be private. Charlene Elton Davis Billiot, a former caterer, died Wednesday of complications from surgery at East Jefferson General Hospital. She was 55. Ms. Billiot was born in New Orleans and lived there and in New York before moving to Laurel, Miss. She graduated from Jones County Junior College and formerly was listed in Who's Who in Vocational-Technical Education. She owned a catering business in New York for 15 years and then returned to New Orleans, where she was active in the food industry until she moved to Laurel. She was a member of Word of Truth Ministries in Kenner. Survivors include a daughter, Donna Gayle Anderson Philmon; her mother, Elton C. Davis; and two grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 8 p.m. at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Antioch Methodist cemetery in Laurel.

Harvey C. "Chuck" Busch Jr., chief deputy clerk for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of Louisiana, died Wednesday of cancer at Touro Infirmary. He was 50. Mr. Busch was born in Denver and lived in Mundelien, Ill., and in the New Orleans area for many years. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Slidell. He was a graduate of the University of New Orleans and Loyola University Law School. He was founder and captain of the Mondo Kayo Social and Marching Club. Survivors include a daughter, Taylor Busch; his father, Harvey C. Busch Sr.; a brother, William Busch of Pensacola, Fla.; and two sisters, Carmen Jubb of Peachtree City, Ga., and Susan Beckham of Knoxville, Tenn. A Mass will be said Saturday at noon at St. Benilde Catholic Church, 1901 Division St., Metairie. Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., and Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in St. Louis cemetery No. 3.
STOHLMAN, MICHEL JR.

Michel Stohlman Jr., a retired educator for the St. Bernard Parish school system, died Friday of cancer at Chalmette Medical Center. He was 79. Mr. Stohlman was born in New Orleans and lived in St. Bernard Parish for the past 50 years. He was a graduate of Maumus High School, received a bachelor's degree from Tulane University and a master's from Louisiana State University. He worked at Chalmette High School as an assistant principal, teacher and coach, and as principal at N.P. Trist Middle School. He was a member of Thebian's Fraternity, the National Board of American Association of Retired Persons and the Louisiana Association of Retired Teachers. He was a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medallion and Four Oak Leaf Clusters. Survivors include his companion, Judy Crain; a son, Deacon Michael H. Stohlman Sr.; a daughter, Susan Michelle Stohlman Crovetto; a brother, Morris Michel Stohlman; a sister, Pauline Stohlman Munch; and four grandchildren. A Mass will be said Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 3700 Jean Lafitte Parkway, Chalmette. Visitation will be today at 6 p.m. at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home and Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the church.

Vivison H. Kerr Sr., a retired letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, died Tuesday at Memorial Hospital. He was 79. Mr. Kerr was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a parishioner of St. Rose de Lima Catholic Church. He served as a Boy Scout leader and was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Elvera L. Kerr; a son, Vivison H. Kerr Jr.; a daughter, Kim P. Kerr; a sister, Maxwell McEwen; and a grandchild. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose de Lima Catholic Church, 2545 Bayou Road. Boutine Johnson, teacher, administrator

Boutine Parker Johnson, a retired teacher and administrator with the Orleans Parish School Board, died Monday of lung cancer at her home. She was 67.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Gulfport, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for the past 66 years. She received a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree in supervision and administration from Southern University in Baton Rouge. She began her teaching career at Mary D. Coghill Elementary School and went on to teach at McDonogh No. 19 Elementary School. She was assistant principal at L.B. McCarty, Thomas Edison, Sherwood Forest and Fisk Howard elementary schools. She also was assistant principal at Frederick Douglass High School.
She was a parishioner of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church and was a former member of Phillips Memorial, Mount Zion and Cornerstone United Methodist Churches.
She was instrumental in the implementation of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday celebration at L.B. McCarty, serving as coordinator and master of ceremonies for five consecutive years.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., United Teachers of New Orleans, Principals Association of New Orleans Public Schools Inc. (PANOSPI), the Urban League of Greater New Orleans and the NAACP. She was elected Mrs. Mount Zion United Methodist Church in 1984.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Stephen S. Johnson III; a son, Roderick C. Johnson; a daughter, Stephanie Johnson Saberre; a sister, Bernis R. "Wilma" Lewis; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be held today at noon at Majestic Mortuary, 1833 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Roch cemetery No. 2, Court of Our Lady Queen of Angels Mausoleum.

Lucille R. Dempsey, a homemaker, died Friday in Texarkana, Texas. She was 77. Mrs. Dempsey was born in New Orleans and lived in Texarkana for many years. She was a member of Arkansas Boulevard Church of Christ. Survivors include four sons, Roy Dempsey of Shreveport, and William, John and Robert Dempsey; a brother, Albert Rivette of Trenton, Texas; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral was held Saturday at Arkansas Boulevard Church of Christ. Burial was in East Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Joseph Steven Dandry, an auto mechanic, died Thursday of cardiopulmonary arrest at West Jefferson Medical Center of Marrero. He was 78. Mr. Dandry was born in Marrero and lived in Westwego for many years. He was an Army veteran. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7307. Survivors include a son, Randolph Dandry; two daughters, Joleen Dandry Fontenot and April Dandry Bankston; two brothers, Anthony and Johnny Dandry; a sister, Margaret Trosclair; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Archie Ernestine Benjamin Crawford, a retired secretary for New Orleans public schools, died Monday at her home. She was 86. Mrs. Crawford was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She was a graduate of McDonogh 35 High School. She attended New Orleans University and Straight Business College. She was a past employee of International Longshore Workers and the NAACP, where she worked as a secretary. She was a member of Bethel AME Church and Iota Phi Lambda Sorority. Survivors include her husband, Edgar Crawford; a son, Carl D. Dennis; a stepdaughter, Denise Crawford Thurmond; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Madge Davis Blackburn, a retired employee of the Citizens Tribune in Morristown, Tenn., died Nov. 17 at her daughter's home. She was 79. Ms. Blackburn was born in Norton, Va., and lived in Pass Christian, Miss. She received the State of Tennessee Journalism Award. Survivors include a son, George Wheatley of Morristown; three daughters, Joy Manuel of Fairhope, Ala., Katherine B. Pavolini of Pass Christian and Maude B. Megison of Metairie; a brother, Sidney L. Davis of Elizabethton, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services were private. Riemann Funeral Home in Pass Christian was in charge of arrangements.
