Leroy J. Cousin, a laborer, died Thursday at Lakeview Regional Hospital of injuries suffered in a car accident. He was 81. Mr. Cousin was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lacombe. Survivors include two sisters, Juanita Prevost and Hilda Guyot. A Mass will be said Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Osay cemetery. Heritage Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

CORDOVA, WARDELL EDWARD

Wardell Edward Cordova, a truck driver for Yellow Freight Systems, died Sunday of undetermined causes at Tulane University Medical Center. He was 56. Mr. Cordova was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He attended Booker T. Washington High School and Job Corps in Texas. He was a former member of The Jolly Bunch, Golden Trumpets, and The Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club. Survivors include two sons, Rodney Cordova Sr. and Edward Cordova; two daughters, Shioban and Chanda Cordova; his mother, Edwina Joseph Cordova; a brother, Henry Edison; three sisters, Gwendolyn Wallace of Oakland, Calif., Leah Green and Jacqueline Henry; and six grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Boissiere-Labat Family Funeral Services, 1703 N. Claiborne Ave. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery.

ORY, BERNADETTE

Bernadette Ory, a homemaker and seamstress, died Thursday of pulmonary disease in Metairie. She was 75. Mrs. Ory was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 30 years. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Divine Providence. Survivors include two sons, Byron J. Jr. and Robert J. Ory; a daughter, Joell Ory Sulzer; two sisters, Sister Cecilia Daigle, OSB, and Georgine Naylor; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A Mass will be said today at 11 a.m. at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 Causeway Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories cemetery, Metairie.

BRICKLEY, ERNEST ‘BRICK' JR.

Ernest "Brick" Brickley Jr., a self-employed welder, died Tuesday of complications from liver disease at Charity Hospital. He was 58. Mr. Brickley was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Meyers Brickley; two brothers, Charles and Sherman Brickley; and two sisters, June B. Marshall and Janice B. Polk. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Greater Power Baptist Church, 1204 S. White St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BEOH, OPHELIA JONES

Ophelia Jones Beoh, a homemaker, died Thursday at Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital. She was 87. Ms. Beoh was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include three sons, Robert, Byron and Alan M. Beoh; two daughters, Wanda Beoh Franklin and Joyce Beoh Llopis; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. A Mass will be said Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, 3501 N. Miro St. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. D.W. Rhodes Funeral is in charge of arrangements.

BANKSTON, EVELYN SMITH

Evelyn Smith Bankston, a homemaker, died Friday of cancer at her home. She was 73. Ms. Bankston was born in Doyline and lived in River Ridge for the past 38 years. She was a member of Munholland United Methodist Church and the Colonial Belles. Survivors include her husband, Damon B. Bankston; two daughters, Janell B. Lepper and Sharon J. Bankston; and two grandchildren. A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Munholland United Methodist Church, 1201 Metairie Road, Metairie. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Metairie cemetery. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MANALE, JOSEPH NICHOLAS SR.

Joseph Nicholas Manale Sr., a retired captain with the New Orleans Fire Department, died Friday at Memorial Mercy Hospital. He was 78. Mr. Manale was a lifelong resident of Algiers. He was a graduate of Martin Behrman High School. He was a member of VFW 3121, VFW National Home, First Marine Division Association, Greater New Orleans Chapter First Marine Division, Marine Corps League Detachment 579, Dav Felix La Veau 10, Louisiana State Fireman's Association, American Legion 218, 40/8 Voiture 108, AM Vets Post No. 100, Police and Fireman's Holy Name Society, Veterans Firefighter 5th and 14th Defense Battalion, 10 Defense Battalion, and AARP Chapters 3975 and 4034. He served in the Marine Corps as a private first class in the South and Central Pacific during World War II. He was a recipient of the American Campaign medal, Asiatic Pacific two stars and the Victory Medallion. Survivors include his wife, Floris Susslin Manale; a son, Joseph N. Manale Jr.; a daughter, Janice Manale Buhler; two sisters, Theresa M. Borne and Mary Lou M. Ehret of Greenwood Miss.; a granddaughter; and a great-grandchild. A Mass will be said today at 1 p.m. at Mothe Funeral Home Inc., 1300 Vallette St., Algiers. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery.

Shayjon Miracle Martin, an baby, died Wednesday of heart failure at Children's Hospital. She was 1˝. She was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include her father, Shannon Cornelious Martin; her mother, Shanta Marie Smith; her grandparents, Deborah Barbarin, Wilfred Henderson, Cavada and Larry Smith, and Emanuel and Suprenia Washington; and two sisters, Sharanay Chante and Shaundre Reneč Martin. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. James Methodist Church, 1925 Ursulines Ave. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in St. Vincent cemetery. Frederick Franklin Gordon III, a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, died Nov. 20 of cancer at his home. He was 60. Mr. Gordon was born in Mobile, Ala., and lived in New Orleans for many years. He was a graduate of Blount High School in Mobile and attended Florida A&M; University. He was a member of Beecher Memorial United Church of Christ, the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club and the Ambassador Krewe. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Crockett Gordon; two daughters, Cherwanda and Fredrica Gordon; two stepsons, Charles and Craig Ferrand; five stepdaughters, Myra Nwachuka, Tyra Legard, Tricia Menyweather and Cassandra and Vanessa Ferrand; four brothers, Edward, Alfred, Clarence and Albert Gordon; two sisters, Annie Cockrell and Rosa Gordon; and six grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 10 a.m. at Beecher Memorial United Church of Christ, 1914 N. Miro St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. Professional Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Albert Samuel "Biggie" Allen Sr., a waiter, died Saturday of undetermined causes at Kindred Hospital in Chicago. He was 63. Mr. Allen was born in New Orleans and lived in Chicago for the past 30 years. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include his mother, Theresa Lassai-Allen; four sons, Aaron Allen Sr. of Atlanta, Albert Allen Jr., Alex Allen Sr. and André Allen Sr.; three daughters, Alana Allen-Fernando of Houston, Ann Marie Allen and Ava Allen-Marshall; a brother, Leonard Allen; two sisters, Marie Allen-Daliet and Cheryl Allen-Scott; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery.

Nelson Mauricio Fernandez, died Monday of undetermined causes at his home. He was 22. Mr. Nelson was born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and lived in New Orleans for the past 15 years. He attended St. Joan of Arc High School. Survivors include a son, Nelson Fernandez Jr.; his parents, Nelson E. and Aida Paz Fernandez; his sister, Carol Possas; and his grandmother, Mariana Moreno. A Mass will be said today at 9:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 4640 Canal St. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Park cemetery.

Cornelius Benard Sr., a retired truck driver, died Friday of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at Memorial Medical Center. He was 66. Mr. Benard was born in Vicksburg, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for the past 50 years. He had worked at Triple Trucking Co. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Alma Benard; three sons, James Picard Jr., Cornelius Benard Jr. and Demetrice Benard; two daughters, Constance Howard of El Paso, Texas, and Stephanie Benard; a stepdaughter, Beverly Joseph-Humphrey; a sister, Doretha Neal of Vicksburg, Miss.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Methodist Church of Louisiana, 1925 Ursulines St. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park. Littlejohn's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
