Ira Paul Dufrene, an electrical supervisor with SECO Industries Inc., died Saturday of cancer at his home. He was 54. He was born in Raceland and lived in River Ridge for the past 24 years. He was a former employee of Delta Petroleum Co., and worked at SECO for 12 years. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife, Sheryl Ann Dufrene; three sons, Shane, Ricky and Ryan Dufrene; a daughter, Nicole Dufrene; three brothers, Warren, John, and Gary Dufrene; a sister, Evelyn Boudreaux; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will be today from 6 to 10 p.m. and Wednesday beginning at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories.

Charles Palao, a sheet metal mechanic at Hussman Corp., died Sunday of pancreatic cancer at Slidell Memorial Hospital. He was 74. He was born in New Orleans and was a resident of Slidell for the past 38 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include a sister, Louise Palao. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at Honaker Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn cemetery.

Patricia Ann Bickham, a cashier, died Friday of cancer at her home. She was 32. Ms. Bickham was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include her companion, Michael Gray; two sons, Phillip and Anthony Lewis; two daughters, Anya and Tirea Lewis; 12 brothers, Zachery, Mack, Ronnie, Wayne, Johnnie and Zack Meads, Westley and Jimmie Lacey, Bennie and Craig Simmon, Earl Thomas and Joseph Bickham; and seven sisters, Theresa Waller, Diane Adams, Patricia Marshall, Mary A. Robert F. Word, an air conditioning and heating technician, died Tuesday of complications from a stroke at his home. He was 36. Mr. Word was born in Rhode Island, previously lived in Slidell and lived in St. Joseph, Mo., for the past five years. He was a Navy veteran. Survivors include his son, Philip Word of Slidell; two daughters, Melissa and Lauren Word of Slidell; his father, Jimmy F. Word of Port Jervis, N.Y.; his mother, Carol T. Cameron of St. Joseph, Mo.; two brothers, Jimmy Word of Pensacola, Fla., and Jeffrey Cameron of St. Joseph, Mo.; and three sisters, Susan Vital of Slidell, Lisa Harford of Port Jervis, N.Y., and Norma Jean Nichols of Clyde, Texas. Travis S. Thomas, a seaman for Rubark Industrial Services and a janitor for the University of New Orleans, died Wednesday of respiratory failure at University Hospital. He was 20. Mr. Thomas was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He attended John McDonogh Senior High School. Survivors include his father, Leonard Thomas Sr., his mother, Patricia Collins Thomas; two brothers, Kerry and Leonard Thomas Jr.; and five sisters, Lenore Reed, Angela, Monique, Tyranesia and Brandy Thomas; and his grandmothers, Hattie Blackman and Lydia Thomas. Earnest Lowell Garlick, an operations manager in the construction business, died Tuesday of cancer at his home. He was 55. Mr. Garlick was born in Sapulpa, Okla., and lived in Jefferson for 22 years. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and received three Purple Hearts. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Ruth Elicks Garlick; two sons, Robert Richard Garlick of Slidell and Kyle Shannon Rester of Pearl River; two daughters, Raynell Caroline Rolf of Folsom and Sharon Ruth Stump of Madisonville; two sisters, Helen Marie Harris and Monne May Chastain, both of Sapulpa; and 11 grandchildren. Steven Carcioppolo died Saturday of cancer at Hospice House in Cape Coral, Fla. He was 44. Mr. Carcioppolo was born in New Orleans and lived in Cape Coral for the past seven years. He earned a black belt in judo. Survivors include his wife, Lauren Carcioppolo; a son, Alex Carcioppolo; a daughter, Kerri Carcioppolo; his father, Attilio Carcioppolo; his stepmother, Judi Carcioppolo; a brother, Johnny Carcioppolo; two sisters, Roxanne Carcioppolo and Lisa Green; and his stepgrandmother, Shirley Grand. No services will be held.

Stephen Joseph Schiro, a roofer, died Saturday of undetermined causes at a private home in Kenner. He was 33. Mr. Schiro was born in New Orleans and lived in St. Bernard Parish for 30 years. He was a former employee of Primary Contractors Inc. He was a member of Adullam Christian Fellowship. Survivors include two sons, Stephen Joseph Ciuffi and Joseph Peter Schiro; his father, Frank J. Schiro; his mother, Linda Haralson Schiro; and a brother, Anthony Peter Schiro. Private services were held Tuesday. Dunn Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.

Inez Graf Tastet, a retired sales employee at Maison Blanche, died Friday at Metropolitan Hospice. She was 89. Mrs. Tastet was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and was a member of the Ladies' Altar Society and St. Margaret's Daughters. Survivors include a son, Minel J. Tastet Jr.; three daughters, Camille T. Laderer, Judith T. Stiebing and Jeanne T. Mossey; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
