George A. Shanklin Sr., a retired shop steward for American Sugar Refinery, died Tuesday of complications from diabetes at St. Charles General Hospital. He was 75. Mr. Shanklin was born in Slidell and lived in New Orleans for most of his life. He graduated from McDonogh High School No. 35 and attended Dillard University. He was an Army veteran and received the Korean Service Medal with a bronze star, the United Nations Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. Survivors include his wife, Kitty E. Carter Shanklin; a son, Jerome Shanklin; two daughters, Verna and Lydia Shanklin; a brother, Lloyd Shanklin; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Greater Little Zion Baptist Church, 5130 Chartres St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Resthaven cemetery. Keith "Lil Keith" Jenkins, an electrician at Louisiana State University Medical Center, died Nov. 23 of a gunshot wound at the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Constance Street. He was 20. Mr. Jenkins was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School. He was a parishioner of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. Survivors include his companion, Shelitha Davis; his mother, Loritta Royal; his stepfather, Duan Reece; two brothers, Kenneth Jenkins and Ke'Michael Jones; and three sisters, LaKeisha and Keoka Jenkins and Keonia Jones. A Mass will be said Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1923 St. Philip St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Park cemetery. Herbert "Jay" Marsh Jr., a retired fire marshal of Hancock County, Miss., and former owner of Jay's Air Conditioning, died Friday of congestive heart failure at his home. He was 75. Mr. Marsh was born in New Orleans and lived in Waveland, Miss., for many years. He was a Navy veteran. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 77 and its 40/8, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6285 and Knights of Columbus No. 152. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Marsh; two sons, Skip and Thomas Marsh; a daughter, Christina Marsh; two stepsons, Jim and Jason McArthur; three stepdaughters, Therese Klipfel, Angela Shaffer and Allison Wills; three brothers, Elmer J., Robert A. Sr. and Michael J. Marsh Sr.; a sister, Betty Marsh Renz; and 10 grandchildren. A Mass will be said Monday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Bay St. Louis, Miss. Ann Frisard Richard, a professional calligrapher, died Friday of cancer at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. She was 62. Ms. Richard was born in New Orleans and lived in Covington for the past eight years. She was a retired supervisor of the prayer office at the Cenacle Retreat House. She received the Order of St. Louis Medallion from the Archdiocese of New Orleans for outstanding charitable work. Survivors include three sons, Joseph W., Paul and John Richard; a daughter, Beverly Richard Varuso; a brother, Earl J. Frisard Sr.; a sister, Beverly F. Blocker; and six grandchildren. A prayer service will be held today at 3 p.m. at Schoen Funeral Home, 1414 S. Tyler St. Visitation will begin at noon. Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Greenwood cemetery.

Shirley Mae Johnson Lewis, a retired educator in the Orleans Parish public school system, died Friday of lung cancer at St. Charles General Hospital. She was 69. Mrs. Lewis was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and Southern University at Baton Rouge. She was a parishioner of St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Christian Life Community and served as Eucharistic minister, lector and liturgical coordinator. Survivors include her husband, Raymond J. Lewis Sr.; five sons, Alfred and Keith Moore, David Dawson, and Randall and Raymond Lewis Jr.; three daughters, Rita L. Arceneaux, Dawn M. Collins and Tamara L. Yilla; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Donna Nagel Neyrey, a science teacher at Roosevelt Middle School, died Thursday of cancer at her home. She was 42. Mrs. Neyrey was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for most of her life. Percy "Gip" Gibson Sr., owner of Gibson's Restaurant and Bar and Percy Gibson Sr. Taxi Service, died Nov. 24 of kidney failure at St. Claude Medical Center. He was 68. Mr. Gibson was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a former longshoreman foreman and was a member of Longshoreman Local No. 3000. Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline V. Crump Gibson; five sons, Keith, Kelvin, Troy, Farend and Percy Gibson Jr.; five daughters, Valrita, Tara, Terri Lynn, Trina and Carla Gibson; a brother, Henry E. David John Gilmore, a retired wholesale liquor salesman for Great Southern Liquor Co., died Thursday of respiratory complications at Lifecare Hospital in Kenner. He was 67. Mr. Gilmore was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie before moving to Kenner 11 years ago. Survivors include a son, David E. Gilmore; two sisters, Freddie G. Landry and Karla G. Kirby; and two grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 5 p.m. at Lamana-Pallo-Fallo Funeral Home, 1717 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Burial will be private.

Douglas R. Kemp Jr., a retired Navy officer, died Wednesday at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington. He was 83. Mr. Kemp was a lifelong resident of Ponchatoula. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a life member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and many other military societies. Survivors include his son, Allen L. Kemp; a sister, Hattie Kemp Wilson of Zolfo Springs, Fla.; and two grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Windsor Senior Living Community, 1770 N. Lawrence Joseph Douroux, a retired firefighter with the Eugene, Ore., Fire Department, died Tuesday of cancer at his home. He was 61. Mr. Douroux was born in New Orleans and lived in Eugene for the past 32 years. He was a graduate of St. Augustine High School, where he was a quarterback on the football team. He attended classes on auto body work to pursue a hobby of restoring antique cars. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Association of Black Professional Fire Fighters, the Classic Car Club of America and the Shadow Hills Country Club. Survivors include his wife, Aloma Orticke Douroux; his mother, Marie Douroux of Destrehan; a brother, Gary Douroux; and two sisters, Consuella Wyble of Norco, Calif., and Bernadette Douroux of Destrehan. A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.
