Joseph Anthony Selzer, former owner and operator of the Ornamental Sheet Metal Works/Joe A. Selzer Roofing Company, died Wednesday at his home. He was 90. Mr. Selzer was born in New Orleans and lived in Arabi for 41 years. He attended Delgado Community College for two years. He was a founding member of St. Robert Bellarmine parish and he received the Order of St. Louis Medal from the Archdiocese of New Orleans for his dedication to the Catholic Church. He was an active member of the Explorer Scouts of America in Our Lady Star of the Sea parish. He was an active member of the Annunciation High School Cooperative Club and the Annunciation Alumni Association. Survivors include his wife, Rosalie Vachetta Selzer; three daughters, June Mary Selzer, Beverly Selzer Flauss and JoAnn Selzer Flauss; a brother, Jerome Q. Selzer Sr.; a sister, June Selzer DeBoer; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at noon at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 815 Badger Drive in Arabi. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Louis cemetery No. 3. St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Elton George Monk, a retired electronic technician in the radio department of South Central Bell, died Wednesday at his home. He was 76. Mr. Monk was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for 58 years. He served in the Navy in World War II and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6640. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Monk Wolf of Loranger; two stepsons, John A. and Gregory N. Meyer; a stepdaughter; Rhonda M. Miller; three brothers, Charles D., Donald R., and Mark P. Monk; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at L.A. Muhleisen and Son, 2929 Metairie Road, Metairie. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories.

Irma Jolla Johnson, a homemaker, died Tuesday at Bethany Nursing Home. She was 91. Mrs. Johnson was born in Woodville, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for 70 years. Survivors include two sons, Vivian Turner and Reginald Johnson; a brother, Peter Jolla; a sister, Ellen Palmer of Woodville; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 7:30 p.m. at James Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 4228 Thalia St., New Orleans. A dismissal service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Woodville. Burial will be in Locust Hill cemetery in Woodville. D.W. Mark G. Conlin, a retired seaman, died Wednesday of emphysema at Lacombe Nursing Home. He was 75. Mr. Conlin was born in New Orleans and lived in Lacombe. Survivors include a brother, George G. Robert W. Mehl, a retired self-employed brick mason, died Tuesday of lung cancer at his home. He was 74. Mr. Mehl was born in Gallipolis, Ohio, and lived in Louisiana for 40 years. He served in the Navy. He was a member of St. Rose Baptist Church and American Legion Post 0258 in Springfield, La. Survivors include a son, Robert L. Mehl of Pensacola, Fla.; four daughters, Ann Nelson of St. Amant, Ellen Rebowe of St. Rose, Janice Kaliszeski of Belle Chasse and Debra Rodriguez of Atlanta; 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose Baptist Church, 627 St. Rose Ave., St. Rose. Survivors include his father, Darryl Badie Jr.; his mother, Selina Crawford Badie; two sisters, Makeyah Weeden and Kristen Grant; his grandparents, Alfred Pratt, Joyce Pratt, the Rev. C.J. Watkins and Betty Badie Watkins; and his great-grandparents, Perry Nolan and Inez Nolan. Julio "Julito" Salgado, a retired dental technician, died Thursday of complications from diabetes at Doctors Hospital in Metairie. He was 68. Mr. Salgado was born in Havana, Cuba, and lived in the New Orleans area for the past 46 years. He received an associate degree in dentistry in Havana. Survivors include three sisters, Faustina C. Keen, Consuelo Salgado and Catalina Salgado. Arthur J. Knight, a professional musician and music educator, died Sunday of cancer at his home. He was 61. Mr. Knight was born in New Orleans and lived in Gretna for many years. He was a graduate of Loyola University, where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in music education. He taught music in the Orleans Parish public school system for 30 years. He was band director at Warren Easton, Kennedy and Abramson high schools. He was a member of the Musician's Union Local No. 174496. He played with many local orchestras and band greats, including Frankie Mann, Jay Zainey, Pat Barberot, Pete Fountain, Jimmy Maxwell, Jerry Leonard, the New Orleans Community Band and the New Orleans Pops. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Knight; two sons, Richard and Paul Knight; his mother, Mary Knight; a brother, Edward Knight; and two grandchildren. A funeral was held Wednesday at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, Metairie. Burial was in Garden of Memories.

Arthur Rodriguez Sr., a retired worker at P.A. Inc. in Harvey and the owner of Arthur's Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, died Thursday of cancer at his home. He was 66. Mr. Rodriguez was born in St. James and lived in Marrero for the past 30 years. He was a member of Pilgrim Progress Missionary Baptist Church, where he was an usher. He also was a member of Buena Vista Willing Workers Club. Mr. Rodriguez was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Bertha Davis Rodriguez; two sons, Reginald T. and Arthur Rodriguez Jr.; five daughters, Valerie Elliott, Stephanie P., Janelle and Regina Rodriguez and Gwendolyn Davis Brown; two brothers, Lawrence Rodriguez and Harden Cayette; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Pilgrim Progress Missionary Baptist Church, 3600 Loyola Ave., New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. at the church. Ida Chetta Maienfisch, a retired case worker for the Louisiana Office of Family Services, died Monday at Physicians Hospital. She was 81. Ms. Maienfisch was born in Brackenridge, Pa., and lived in New Orleans for the past 46 years. Survivors include a son, Jon Long; two daughters, Cheri Deringer and June Kramer; two sisters, Florence Hesselgesser and Ruth Young; and five grandchildren. A funeral will be held at a later date. Anita Krekel, a homemaker, died Wednesday at Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital. She was 77. Mrs. Krekel was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She was a former president of the New Orleans Recreation Department's 50 Plus Council. Survivors include two sons, Marvin and Brodus Krekel; a daughter, Letitia Krekel; her mother, Jewel Tipton; a brother, John Tipton; and two grandchildren.
