Joy Michele Nickerson, a student, died Sunday of complications from diabetes at Tulane Medical Center. She was 21. Miss Nickerson was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She had attended Bryman College. Survivors include her companion, Jarvis Bridges; her mother, Constance "Cookie" Nickerson; a brother, Emile Nickerson; and a sister, Anysia Nickerson. A Mass will be said Friday at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2022 St. Bernard Ave. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Vincent de Paul cemetery. Zorka Tadin Guichard, a homemaker, died Saturday of pulmonary fibrosis at her home. She was 81. Mrs. Guichard was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 40 years. She graduated from Mount Carmel Academy and Maybin Business School. She was a parishioner of St. Edward the Confessor Church. Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Joseph Guichard; two sons, Kenneth J. and Lawrence J. Guichard Jr.; three daughters, Janelle Ann Guichard Donovan, Suzanne Yvette Guichard McDaniel and Deanne Marie Guichard Valentino; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A Mass will be said Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 10 p.m. and Tuesday beginning at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Louis cemetery No. 3.

Beverly Louise Robertson, an educator, died Tuesday of cancer at her home. She was 48. Mrs. Robertson was born in Covington and lived in Seattle for the past 10 years. She graduated from Covington High School, received a bachelor's degree from Southern University and a master's degree from Southeastern Louisiana University. Survivors include a son, Orlando Robertson; a daughter, Ashley Burris; her father, Isiah Robertson; her mother, Doris Robertson; six brothers, Charles Moore and Kenneth, Theard, Dwight, Andre and Isiah Robertson Jr.; and a grandchild. Albert B. Munch, a retired construction-business proprietor, died Thursday at his home. He was 83. Mr. Munch was born in Manilla Village and lived in Crown Point for many years. Selma Barras Hebert, a retired cafeteria manager for the Jefferson Parish public schools, died Saturday at West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero. She was 86. Ms. Hebert was born in Terrebonne Parish and lived in Marrero for the past 59 years. She was a graduate of Terrebonne High School. She was a past employee of Ames Elementary and Marrero Middle School. She was a member of the West Bank Homemakers Club. Survivors include two daughters, Betty H. Capdeville and Carolyn H. Marion Morvant Gerarve, a retired secretary and medical office administrator, died Sept. 23 of complications from liver transplant surgery at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. She was 59. Mrs. Gerarve was born in New Orleans and lived in River Ridge for the past 37 years. She attended St. Stephens High School and Loyola University. She was formerly a secretary at Hazel Park School in Jefferson Parish and a medical office administrator. Survivors include her husband, Frank Edward Gerarve Jr.; two sons, Frank Edward Gerarve III and Matthew Michael Gerarve; a daughter, Jeanne Gerarve Pichon; her father, Clifton A. Morvant; her mother, Marjorie Morvant; four brothers, Clifton A. Morvant Jr., Edward, John and Thomas Morvant; a sister, Anne Morvant Elmer; and three grandchildren. Ethel Mae Williams, a homemaker, died Sept. 20 of complications from cancer at Kenner Regional Medical Center. She was 64. Ms. Williams was born in Newburn, Ala., and lived in Kenner for the past 37 years. She attended Hale County Training School. She was a certified nursing assistant and private sitter. Survivors include four daughters, Kendall and Samantha Williams and Katrina and Chanel Davis; two stepdaughters, Stacey Eugene and Bridget Davis; her father, Williams Quarrles; her mother, Roselle Diggins; and seven grandchildren. Virginia McConnell, Newcomb chemist

Virginia Fenner McConnell, former head of the chemistry department at Newcomb College, died Saturday at her home. She was 97.
Mrs. McConnell was a lifelong resident of New Orleans.
She graduated from Isidore Newman School and Newcomb and received a master's degree from Tulane University. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
She taught chemistry at Newcomb for more than 25 years.
Mrs. McConnell was considered an authority on the history of chemistry and particularly on Emil Fischer, a 19th-century German scientist considered one of the fathers of chemistry, and his son, Otto, a professor of biochemistry at the University of California at Berkeley.
She was a member of the Historic Division and Organic Division of the American Chemical Society and was active in the Chemical Heritage Society, presenting papers at its meetings into her 80s.
Mrs. McConnell, the daughter of a founding partner of the Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Beane brokerage house, was married
to Richard Bland McConnell, a sugar chemist, stockbroker and later co-owner of Caribe Co., a barge rental company.
She was a member of the Colonial Dames, the Junior League of New Orleans and Trinity Episcopal Church, where she did volunteer work until her death.
Survivors include a son, Richard Bland McConnell Jr.; a daughter, Virginia McConnell Walker; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1329 Jackson Ave., followed by visitation at the parish house. Burial in Metairie cemetery will be private. Bultman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jonathan A. Christopher Sr., a manager with Riteway Service Inc., died Monday of a heart attack at Tulane Medical Center. He was 50. Mr. Christopher was a lifelong resident of New Orleans.
