Carolyn Moses Houston, a retired hotel supervisor, died Sunday at her home. She was 75. Mrs. Houston was born in Lumberton, Miss., and lived in Gulfport, Miss., for many years before moving to New Orleans. She retired as supervisor of laundry services after 42 years with the Fairmont Hotel. Survivors include her companion, Ernest McClendon. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church No. 2, 2601 Jackson Ave. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Pine Ridge Garden cemetery in Gulfport. Christie Lynn Heine VanderHoff, a homemaker, died Tuesday of undetermined causes at Chalmette Medical Center. She was 25. Mrs. VanderHoff was a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish. Survivors include her husband, Roy A. VanderHoff Jr.; two daughters, Tabitha Heine and Holly VanderHoff; her mother, Joan "De De" Walsh Heine; two sisters, Michelle Heine Melerine and Yvette Heine Alfonso; and her grandparents, Annie and Theodore Heine Sr.. A funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Vickers, Verrette and Dornan Funeral Home, 3027 Jean Lafitte Parkway, Chalmette. Mamie Louise Davis, a respiratory therapist and polysomnographic technologist, died Monday of complications of appendicitis at Memorial Medical Center. She was 50. Ms. Davis was born in Jefferson County, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for the past 30 years. She graduated from Sadie V. Thompson High School in Natchez, Miss.; attended Delgado Community College; and had a respiratory therapy certificate from California College for Health Sciences. She worked at University Hospital and St. Claude General Hospital. She was a former member of Pure Light Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Chiquita Maria Jones; her father, Silas Jones Jr.; her stepmother, Rose Marie Jones; four brothers, Johnny Hines and Walter, Willie B. and Aaron Jones; and four sisters, Jennifer and Rebecca Jones, Gloria Jean Johnson, and Debbie Lewis. A funeral will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery.

Bobbie Lee Hudson, a retired Jefferson Parish teacher, died Sept. 17 of heart failure at East Jefferson General Hospital. She was 70. Mrs. Hudson was born in Palestine, Texas, and lived in Jefferson Parish for many years before retiring to Emerald Bay, Texas. She graduated from Whitehouse High School in Texas, received a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Houston and a master's degree in education from Tulane University. She taught English in Texas and Louisiana schools for many years, finishing her career at East Jefferson High School. Survivors include her companion, Vincent Rodriguez of Metairie; two sons, Michael Hudson of Palestine and Robert D. Franks of Greers Ferry, Ark.; a daughter, Donna Leigh Morris of Loranger; a sister, Dorothy Ingram of Bullard, Texas; and eight grandchildren. A funeral was held Saturday at Herrington Land of Memory Chapel in Palestine. Burial was in Land of Memory cemetery in Palestine.

James Louis "House" Johnson, a teacher at St. John the Baptist public schools, died Monday of heart complications at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. He was 73. Mr. Johnson was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge. He graduated from McKinley High School and Leland College. He was a teacher for 18 years at Fifth Ward High School, three years at Reserve Junior High School, six years at Leon Godchaux High School and three years at Leon Godchaux Junior High School. He retired in 1981. Survivors include his wife, Mary F. Johnson; four sons, Eddie, Eric, Gregory and Forest Johnson; a daughter, Fredia Johnson; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Magnolia Baptist Church, 960 East Buchanan St. in Baton Rouge. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Desselle's Funeral Home, 263 Eddie Robinson Sr. Drive, Baton Rouge. David Anderson Estes Sr., a retired insurance executive, died Sunday at East Jefferson General Hospital. He was 77. Mr. Estes was born in Picayune, Miss., and lived in Metairie for the past 47 years. He was a graduate of Mississippi College and had a master's degree from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. He was a past vice president of Gray and Co. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, during which he served in the 8th Air Corps. He flew 23 missions over Germany in a B-17, and was awarded three Bronze Battle Stars, the Air Medal with third Oak Leaf Cluster, the European and American theater service ribbons, and the Victory Medal. Survivors include his wife, Beverly Boeckelmann Estes; a son, David A. Estes Jr.; two daughters, Dorothy E. Taylor and Lynne E. Sprick; two sisters, Dorothy E. Burns and Frances E. Romershauser; and seven grandchildren. A funeral will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday beginning at noon. Kurt C. Van Kuren, a bartender at The Harbor Lounge in Metairie for nine years, died Monday of cancer at Touro Infirmary. He was 51. Mr. Van Kuren was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Mr. Cupit was born in Meadville, Miss., and lived in Norco for the past 42 years. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Norma Wagner Cupit; two daughters, Linda C. Reif and Sandy C.
