RUFFO, CARMELITE D.

Carmelite D. Ruffo, former owner of Hazel's Po-Boys, died Saturday at East Jefferson General Hospital. She was 82. Mrs. Ruffo was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 35 years. She was a parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Rocco A. Ruffo Sr.; a son, Donald A. Ruffo; and a brother, Jerome Alfred. A Mass will be said Thursday at 1 p.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Visitation will begin at noon. Burial will be in Cypress Grove Cemetery.

MELTON, ROSEMARY RIGIS

Rosemary Rigis Melton, a retired office manager for Jefferson Door Co., died Wednesday at Jo Ellen Smith Convalescent Center in Algiers. She was 75. Ms. Melton was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include a son, Peter G. Melton; a daughter, Wanda Melton-Hanson; a sister, Hilda Nagel; and two grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at 1 p.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, 1300 Vallette St., Algiers. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park in Gretna.

CRAWFORD, JEANNINE MARIE ‘JEAN'

Jeannine Marie "Jean" Crawford, a retired social worker, died Monday of septic shock at Memorial Medical Center. She was 73. Mrs. Crawford was born in New York City and lived in New Orleans for the past 12 years. She graduated from Queens College in Queens, N.Y. Survivors include her husband, Morris B. "Billy" Crawford; a son, Kevin Reid of New York City; two daughters, Stephanie A. and Joy Reid, both of New York City; and four grandchildren. A Mass will be said Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 1210 Gov. Nicholls St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park. D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BOUDREAUX, ROBERT ‘POP'

Robert "Pop" Boudreaux, owner of Orleans Beauty Salon 1 & 2 and Sub-Sea Corp., died Saturday of cancer at his home. He was 52. Mr. Boudreaux was born in New Orleans and lived in Terrytown for the past five years. He graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School and Delgado Barbering School. He was a former employee of Avondale Shipyard. He was a member of Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church, where he was on usher board No. 3. He also was a member of Valet Social and Pleasure Club. Survivors include his wife, Veronica Boudreaux; three daughters, Evella and Jana Boudreaux and Shelita Scott; his mother, Lillie Mae Boudreaux; and two grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church, 2308 S. Liberty St., New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Park Cemetery. D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

SMITH, JOYCE ‘TEE-TEE'

Joyce "Tee-Tee" Smith, a former cook at Mother's Restaurant, died Sept. 3 of respiratory failure at Charity Hospital. She was 50. Ms. Smith was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She was a member of Second New Light Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include her companion, Harold West; two sons, Leon Flemings and Donald Massey; two daughters, Katrina and Sabrina Smith; three brothers, Darich Vincent and James and Lawrence Jones; and nine grandchildren. A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Second New Light Missionary Baptist Church, 2021 First St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

HORNE, PERKIN

Perkin Horne, a retired laborer, died Saturday at Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 82. Mr. Horne was born in Vossberg, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for the past 30 years. He was a past employee of Boh Brothers Construction. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Lucille Horne; a son, Dennis Horne of Erie, Pa.; a daughter, Deborah Horne; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Tilly's Funeral Home, 2831 St. Claude Ave. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, Miss.

ANDERSON, MARIE McGURK

Marie McGurk Anderson, a homemaker, died Monday at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Mandeville. She was 82. Mrs. Anderson was born in Philadelphia and lived in Covington for the past 24 years. Survivors include a daughter, MaryAnn Gregorio; a brother, Joseph C. McGurk; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 E. 19th Ave., Covington. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington. O'REAR, ROBERT L. SR.

Robert L. O'Rear Sr., a retiree of Baker Oil Tools, died Wednesday at Slidell Memorial Hospital. He was 80. Mr. O'Rear was born in Minden and lived in Metairie and Kenner and in Slidell for the past 10 years. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He worked in oil fields, farmed and raised cattle. Survivors include two sons, Jimmie Wayne Nix Sr. of Palmer, Ark., and Robby O'Rear of Mandeville; a daughter, Dee O. Cashio of Slidell; a sister, Estelle O. Heflin of Sibley; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West, Slidell. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Irene Stoyka Mapes, a homemaker, died Sunday of heart failure at Memorial Medical Center. She was 69. Mrs. Mapes was born in New Orleans and was a lifelong resident of Chalmette. Survivors include a son, Donald Ray Mapes Jr.; two daughters, Billie Jean Mapes and Shelly M. Gunning; a sister, Helen Stoyka Raphiel ; and five grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 1 p.m. at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.

COLEMAN, SETH LEO

Seth Leo Coleman, an employee of Chet Morrison Contractors Inc. and the New Orleans Steamboat Co., died Thursday from injuries suffered in a car accident in Harvey. He was 19. Mr. Coleman was born in Lafitte and lived in Terrytown for the past 13 years. He attended Fisher High School in Lafitte, where he was a member of the Drug Abuse Resistance Education team, the Fisher High School football and track teams and a volunteer for the Friendship Club. Survivors include his fiancée, Melissa Marie Olano; his father, Jaime "J.B." Coleman; his mother, Lottie Cheramie Bennett; his stepfather, James Alan Bennett Sr.; three brothers, Norris Jude Cheramie, Andre J. Coleman and James A. Bennett Jr.; and six sisters, Heather M. Walker, Winifred A. Coleman, Brooke A. and Autumn L. Cheramie and Heather L. and Kelly E. Bennett. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 West Bank Expressway, Marrero. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Burial will be in Westlawn Park Cemetery in Gretna.

Patricia Kent Grant, a shrimp packer, died Sunday of collapsed lungs at Chalmette Medical Center. She was 49. Mrs. Grant was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She attended Lawless Junior High School. Survivors include a son, Rodney Kent; a daughter, Wyquila Kent; her mother, Lula Mae Kent; six brothers, Carl, Wayne, Lonnie, Merlin, Eddie and Clark Kent; six sisters, Tyrico, Mayunta and Philomena Kent and Andrea Lewis, Tamika Falls and Maylene Arbuthnot; her grandmother, Eddie C. Truman "Trudy" Mitchell, a homemaker, died Wednesday of complications from heart surgery at University Hospital. She was 56. Ms. Mitchell was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include a son, Anthony Mitchell; a daughter, Linda Mitchell; her father, Owen Peterson Sr. of Houston; seven brothers, Jules Peterson of Houston, Melvin Peterson of Dallas, Owen Peterson Jr. and Michael, Frederick, Gordon and Paul Peterson; three sisters, Eloise and Paulette Peterson, both of Houston, and Yvonne Peterson; five stepsisters; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Majestic Mortuary Service, 1833 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park.
