William P. "Junior" Luster, a retired clerk in the law library of the state Supreme Court, died Thursday at Crescent City Health Care Center. He was 78. Mr. Luster was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from Xavier Preparatory High School and attended Xavier University. He was on the board of directors of Neighborhood Housing Services and was a former vice president of Neighbors United Community Organization. He was a member of the Freret Street Association and of the parish council and usher board of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II and received the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal with a bronze service star. He received an award of appreciation from the Louisiana Supreme Court and the Governor's Award for community service. He was the godfather of state Sen. Diana Bajoie. A Mass will be said Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2400 Napoleon Ave. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Vincent Cemetery on Soniat Street.
MOCKLIN, ELIZABETH DOELL

Elizabeth Doell Mocklin, a homemaker, died Wednesday at Life Care Center of Memorial Medical Center. She was 82. Mrs. Mocklin was born in New Orleans and lived Metairie for the past 35 years. She was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church. Survivors include a son, Louis F. Mocklin Jr.; two daughters, Linda M. Goforth and Susan M. Trosclair; a brother, Henry Doell; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at noon at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Vincent de Paul Mausoleum.

Elnora "Peggy" F. Hurst, a retired employee of Martin Marietta in New Orleans, died Thursday of undetermined causes at Garden Village in Yakima, Wash. She was 70. Mrs. Hurst was born in Bethel, Mo., and lived in New Orleans for many years and in Yakima for the past seven years. She worked for Martin Marietta for 19 years before retiring in 1992. She attended Open Bible Christian Life Church. Survivors include her husband, Jay Hurst; two daughters, Tracey Middaugh of Pearl River and Kimberlea Hurst of Pasco, Wash.; two sisters, Reba S. Platz of Kirksville, Mo., and Doris J. Geisenhaver of Apache Junction, Ariz.; and a grandchild. A funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home in Yakima. Burial will be in West Hills Memorial Park.

John Breakfield Sr., a retired machinist for Plymouth Cordage Corp., died Monday of heart failure at Lifecare Hospital in Chalmette. He was 84. Mr. Breakfield was born in Sumrall, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for the past 48 years. He was a graduate of Sumrall High School. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and Graham-Washington Lodge No. 413, F&M.; Survivors include two sons, John Breakfield Jr. and Royce Breakfield; two daughters, Gloria Finnegan-McMullen and Glenda Davis; a sister, Viola Williamson; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in Sumrall. Visitation will begin at noon. Burial will be in Military Cemetery in Sumrall. John Hector Martinez, a retired foreman for International Harvester, died Tuesday at his home. He was 82. Mr. Martinez was born in San Salvador, El Salvador, and lived in New Orleans for the past 37 years. Survivors include his wife, Juana Martinez; four sons, Tito Alberto, Mario Alonso, Carlos Alfredo and Marco Antonio Martinez; two daughters, Coralia Solito and Ana Miriam Trochez; a brother, Mauricio Martinez; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie. Peter Thomas Guzzardo, a former councilman in Independence, died Tuesday at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. He was 90. Mr. Guzzardo was a lifelong resident of Independence. He was a town councilman for more than 25 years and was a former housing inspector. He was a past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus, Council 5627 of Independence, Father Della Pinta Assembly, 4th Degree. He was a member of the St. Joseph Society, the Lions Club of Independence and the Italian/American Culture Association. Survivors include two sons, John Guzzardo of Hammond and Blaise Guzzardo; a sister, Minnie Garafola; two brothers, George and Buster Guzzardo; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Friday at 1 p.m. at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Independence. Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. vigil prayer service, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd., Hammond. Survivors include two daughters, Andra deMonsabert Chase and Paulette deMonsabert Reilly; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Marie Amelie DeLerno Andrieu, a retired registered nurse and General Educational Development instructor, died Sunday at her home. She was 79. Mrs. Andrieu was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She graduated from McMain High School and Charity School of Nursing. She was a school nurse at Isidore Newman School for 19 years. She was a parishioner of St. Matthias Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Paul M. Andrieu; seven sons, Christian W., William J., Robert C., John C., Kenneth W. and Brian J. Andrieu and Paul M. Andrieu Jr.; three brothers, Manuel J., Joseph and Christian DeLerno; a sister, Betty Ellen Reinhard; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Alan Neil Anderson, a retired self-employed executive search consultant, died Wednesday of respiratory failure at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. He was 64. Mr. Anderson was born in Pittsfield, Maine, and lived in Chicago for many years. He lived in Mountain Home, Ark., for two years before moving to Covington three months ago. He was a Navy veteran. Survivors include a sister, Judith Shopf. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 120 S. New Hampshire St., Covington. Burial will be in St. Francis Garden on the church grounds. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Alvin Grant, a retired oiler for Algiers Boat Co., died Friday of congestive heart failure at Charity Hospital. He was 70. Mr. Grant was a lifelong resident of Algiers. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn Park in Avondale.
