JOHNSON, MYRTLE ‘MERT'

May 18, 2002

Myrtle "Mert" Johnson, a homemaker, died Tuesday of congestive heart failure at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. She was 61. Ms. Johnson was born in Picken, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for the past 57 years. She attended Booker T. Washington High School. She was a member of First Mount Calvary Baptist Church, where she served on Usher Board No. 1. Survivors include a son, Kenneth Johnson; two daughters, Patrice and Tamara Johnson; a sister, Juanita Flowers; and two grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 9:30 a.m. at First Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 2919 Sixth Street. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in Resthaven cemetery. Magee Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ALLEN, JAMES

June 1, 2001

James Allen, a retired auto mechanic with the New Orleans Port of Embarkation, died May 25 at Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital. He was 89. Mr. Allen was born in Tunica and lived in New Orleans. Survivors include his wife, Rosetta Scott "Ov" Allen; two sons, James K. and Elston K. Allen; and a grandchild. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Gertrude Geddes-Willis Funeral Home, 2120 Jackson Ave. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park.

LAWSON, ROGER LEE SR.

June 7, 2001

Roger Lee Lawson Sr., a self-employed disc jockey and owner of Rockin' Bob Lounge, died Sunday of heart failure at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was 57. Mr. Lawson was born in Utica, Miss., and lived in Marrero for 35 years. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Lawson; a son, Roger Lee Lawson Jr.; two daughters, Bridget Ann Nicole Lawson and Shannon Danell Lawson; three brothers, Percy Lawson, George Lawson and Tommie Lawson; and four grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church, 1131 Garden Road, Marrero. Dismissal will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at White Oak Methodist Baptist Church, Carpenter, Miss. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Davis Mortuary Service handled arrangements.

BOQUET, SONJA ANN WILLIAMS

May 31, 2001

Sonja Ann Williams Boquet, a typist clerk with the Monterey County, Calif., Department of Social Services, died Sunday of a brain aneurysm at Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula. She was 49. Mrs. Boquet was born in New Orleans and lived in Seaside, Calif., for the past seven years. She was a graduate of L.B. Landry High School and Southern University at New Orleans, and she attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana and the University of Southern Mississippi. Mrs. Boquet was a member of Emmanuel Church of God in Christ. Survivors include her husband, Ernest J. Boquet Sr.; a son, Ernest Joseph Boquet Jr. of Seaside; three daughters, Cantrell K. and Nicole T. Boquet, both of New Orleans, and Nadine Rene Boquet of Seaside; her father, Wilson Williams of New Orleans; a sister, Gabrialla S. DeBerry of West Point, N.Y.; and two grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Church of God in Christ in Seaside. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mission Memorial Park, Seaside. Struve and Laporte Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

WHITE, WILLIAM PAUL ‘LIL WILLIE' ‘WHITE SHOES' ‘W' ‘BIG CHIEF' III

May 26, 2001

William Paul "Lil Willie" "White Shoes" "W" "Big Chief" White III, a furniture handler at Allied Van Lines, died May 18 of heart failure at his home. He was 53. Mr. White was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a former employee of Stallings Construction, Old Quarter Tours and Gay 90's Tours. Survivors include two sons, William P. White IV and Shawn Robin; two daughters, Rochelle White King and Racquel White; his stepfather, Raymond S. Emilien; two brothers, Calvin Armstead and Kenneth White; five sisters, Marva W. Blache, Carolyn W. Bryant, Cynthia W. Jourdain, Sandra W. Hughes and Melanie W. Jones; and four grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 1 p.m. at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 1716 N. Claiborne Ave. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery.

JACKSON, DEBRA BOWMAN

May 16, 2001

Debra Bowman Jackson, a registered nurse at Chalmette Medical Center, died Sunday of undetermined causes at her home. She was 45. Mrs. Jackson was born in Montgomery, Ala., and lived in Slidell for the past 15 years. She was a graduate of the Charity School of Nursing. Mrs. Jackson was a member of the Louisiana Nursing Association and the Alumni Association of the Charity School of Nursing. Survivors include her husband, Gary D. Jackson; two sons, Geremy D. and Brandon K. Jackson; two daughters, Kristy J. Scharenbroch and Summer N. Jackson; three brothers, Edward R., Lewis C. and Benny Bowman; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd.W., Slidell. Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. and will resume Thursday at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn cemetery.

SCHUBERT, BARBARA THIBODAUX

March 15, 2002

Barbara Thibodaux Schubert, an assistant business manager at the Clarion-Herald for 18 years, died Feb. 28 of kidney failure at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. She was 65. Mrs. Schubert was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 40 years. She was a former president of the New Orleans Retail Credit Association and a former teacher in the Jefferson Parish adult education program. Survivors include her mother, Helen Thibodaux; and a sister, Patty Thibodaux. A private service was held March 2 at Lake Lawn Mausoleum. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home handled arrangements.

DUNLAP, DR. WILLIAM P.

March 2, 2002

Dr. William P. Dunlap, a psychology professor at Tulane University, died Thursday of lung cancer at his home. He was 60. Dr. Dunlap was born in Boston and lived in New Orleans for 57 years. He attended Isidore Newman School and earned his undergraduate and doctoral degrees from Tulane, where he began teaching in the psychology department in 1969. He wrote or contributed to more than 150 articles, was a member of the editorial boards of numerous journals, and was a statistical consultant for companies around the world. Dr. Dunlap's specialty was qualitative methods, statistics and research design, and he had an international reputation as a teacher and researcher. Survivors include his wife, Leann Myers; two daughters, Susan E. Dunlap and Anne Dunlap Hull; and two brothers, Charles and John Dunlap. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Bultman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

McDONOGH, THOMAS CASPER JR.

March 03, 2002

Thomas Casper McDonogh Jr., a retired bus driver, died Friday at Kenner Regional Medical Center. He was 77. Mr. McDonogh was born in New Orleans and lived in Kenner for the past 25 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific. Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Miller McDonogh; two sons, Edward and Thomas C. McDonogh III; three daughters, Shirley M. Strehle and Mary T. and Patricia McDonogh; a sister, Shirley M. Lazaro; and five grandchildren. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery No. 1.

POINDEXTER, IRENE

March 05, 2002

Irene Poindexter, a retired caregiver, died Feb. 25 at Crescent City Health Care Center. She was 75. Mrs. Poindexter was born in Woodville, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for the past 32 years. Survivors include a daughter, Irene Morris of Washington, D.C. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Charbonnet-Labat Funeral Home, 1615 St. Philip St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park.

SCACCIA, ANTHONY

March 15, 2002

Anthony Scaccia, a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II, died March 5, 1944, in a plane crash in Papua, New Guinea, during a bombing mission. He was 24. Mr. Scaccia was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and was a Boy Scout leader. He received a Purple Heart. Survivors include two nephews, Eugene and Larry Guccione. A graveside service will be held today at 1 p.m. at Metairie cemetery, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., Metairie. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

PELLEGRIN, CLAIBORNE ‘C.J.' SR.

March 15, 2002

Claiborne "C.J." Pellegrin Sr., a bartender, died Wednesday of heart failure at University Hospital. He was 44. Mr. Pellegrin was born in New Orleans and lived in Gretna and in Algiers for the past four years. Survivors include his wife, Phillis Patty Pellegrin; three sons, Claiborne Pellegrin Jr. and Matthew and Dustin Costanza; his father, Louis Pellegrin; his mother, Betty Bruce Sanchez; two brothers, Troy and Louis Pellegrin Jr.; and a sister, June Ray. A funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 West Bank Expressway, Harvey. Visitation will be today from 6 p.m. to midnight and Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park.
