Dorothy Eagle Eye Latapie, a retired bookkeeper, died Saturday of a heart attack at Ormond Nursing Home. She was 65. Ms. Latapie was born in New Orleans and lived in Kenner for most of her life. Survivors include a son, James K. Rome; three daughters, Denise L. Tarlton, Diana L. Bordelon and Debra Latapie; two sisters, Juanita E. Waguespack and Mary Ann E. Roberts; three stepbrothers, Carlo, Henry and Edmond Massulla; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Monday at 11 a.m. at L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner. Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. and Monday at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. John Memorial Gardens in LaPlace.

Benjamin Alan Wong, a sales representative at Car Audio Connection, died Saturday at his home of gastric cancer. He was 31. Mr. Wong was born in San Diego and lived in New Orleans for 30 years. He graduated from Archbishop Rummel High School. Survivors include his mother, Shui Kuen Wong, and a sister, Mei Wong. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

James T. Callaghan Jr., a retired brewery supervisor, died Thursday. He was 82. Mr. Callaghan was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He is survived by a son, James B. Callaghan, and three grandchildren. A Mass will be held today at 11 a.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery No. 1.

Berthell Prevost Williams, a retired cook, died Monday at IHS Rehab Health Care Center. She was 80. Mrs. Williams was a lifelong resident of Slidell. She was a cook at St. Tammany High School and Curve-Inn Restaurant and retired after 25 years as head cook at Slidell Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Stewart Board at Hartzell Mt. Zion Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Albert Williams; two daughters, Paulette Archie and Alberta McWilliams; a sister, Cora Richardson; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hartzell Mt. Zion Methodist Church, 41040 U.S. 190 East, Slidell. Burial will be in Slidell Memorial Cemetery. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the New Orleans Power Squadron and Senior Citizens of Lacombe. Survivors include a daughter, Norma T. Gwin; a brother, Robert Long; three sisters, Adelaide L. Yrle, Marianne L. Atamian and Hilda L. Irick; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Helen Smith Leon, a retired homemaker, died Monday at the Mary Joseph Residence of Little Sisters of the Poor. She was 76. Mrs. Leon was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She was a parishioner of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Peter Claver Court No. 50. She was a member of senior citizens groups at Harmony House and St. Peter Claver. Survivors include a son, Ronald Leon; five daughters, Carolyn Medley, Gail Carnin, Edwina Grandberry and Debbie and Vanessa Leon; a sister, Myra S. Harrell; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Friday at 1 p.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1923 St. Philip St. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Little Sisters of the Poor, 4201 Woodland Drive, and will continue at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Williams; four sisters, Verona Hayes, Ozella Harris, Marilyn Sterling and Joann Williams; 19 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Rita Staub Bailey, a retired businesswoman, died Friday of cardiac arrest at West Jefferson Medical Center. She was 83. Mrs. Bailey was born in New Orleans, where she lived until moving to Gretna last year. In 1953, she and her husband opened an Uptown bar and restaurant named for him, Bill Bailey's Bar. After his death, she operated the neighborhood gathering place at Laurel and Arabella streets for almost 20 more years before closing it in 1993. Survivors include two sons, William R. Diettel III of Gretna and Leland J. Diettel Sr. of Metairie; a sister, Ednamae Massey of Covington; and two grandchildren. A Mass will be said Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cletus Catholic Church, 3600 Claire Ave., Gretna. Burial will be private.
