Leona Williams Jones, a homemaker, died Friday at Kindred Hospital. She was 76. Ms. Jones was born in New Roads and lived in New Orleans for the past 61 years. She was a member, former treasurer and choir member at Carver Desire Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Glenda Carter of Lawton, Okla., Naomi Faulkins and Nedra J. Fisher; three brothers, Ivory Williams of Baton Rouge and Charlie and James Williams; two sisters, Thelma Porche and Virginia Paul, both of New Roads; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A wake and funeral will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Carver Desire Baptist Church, 3301 Montegut St. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Dismissal will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the church. Parrish Michael Baldassaro, owner of Baldassaro Renovations, died Saturday at Charity Hospital after an automobile accident. He was 24. Mr. Baldassaro was a lifelong resident of Belle Chasse. Survivors include his companion, Ashley Sutherland; a son, Parrish Baldassaro Jr.; his father, Vincent Baldassaro Jr.; his mother, Cindy T. Bowles; his stepfather, Karl Frank; his stepmother, Judy Baldassaro; his sister, Paige Baldassaro; and his grandparents, Gloria McMillan and Vincent and Dena Baldassaro. A funeral will be held today at 1 p.m. at White Dove Fellowship Church, 3600 Manhattan Blvd., Harvey. Earl A. "Chee-Kie" Dupré Jr., a retired dispatcher and welder, died Sunday of complications from a stroke at Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 68. Mr. Dupré was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He retired from Pecan Grove Dairy and Avondale shipyard. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Eurydice Coulon Dupré; five sons, André, Rickey, Juan, Michel and Terry Dupré; a daughter, Suzanne D. Patin; his mother, Nettie Roussel Dupré; a sister, Lois D. Augustine; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A Mass will be said Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 2212 Prentiss Ave. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Private burial will follow. Douglas Schuyler "Doug" Kutina, a pilot for U.S. Airways, died Monday of injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident in the Pittsburgh area. He was 53. Mr. Kutina was born in McPherson, Kan., and lived in St. Bernard Parish and Florida before moving to Pittsburgh many years ago. He graduated from Chalmette High School and Louisiana Tech in Ruston. He was a pilot for Eastern Air Lines for eight years. He was a pilot in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Harley Davidson Christian Men. Survivors include a son, Schuyler Kutina of Conroe, Texas; his mother, Maida Thokey of New Orleans; his stepfather, Jim Thokey of New Orleans; a brother, David Thokey of Dallas; and two sisters, Kay Cram of Fort Worth, Texas, and Debbie Smith of Lacombe. A funeral will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church in McPherson. Memorial services will be held in New Orleans and Pittsburgh at a later date. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery. Brian A. Lopez, reprographics engineer for AAMCO, died Thursday of cancer at East Jefferson General Hospital. He was 43. Mr. Lopez was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie. He was a member of the Krewe of Caesar, APA Dart League and BCA Pool League. Survivors include his mother, Joycelyn W. Lopez; a brother, Marc A. Lopez; and a sister, Debbie L. Schlumbrecht. Irma Lee Mondell Sylva, a retired employee of Louisiana Power & Light Co., died Sunday at West Jefferson Medical Center. She was 91. Mrs. Sylva was a lifelong resident of Algiers. She attended McDonogh No. 35 High School. She was a member of Second Good Hope Baptist Church, where she was church mother and a member of the deaconess board and pastor's aid committee. Survivors include two sons, Irving Sylva of San Francisco and Ernest Sylva of Humble, Texas; two daughters, Myrna Douroux of Los Angeles and Pearl S. Lewis; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren. Jacobus Cornelis Aafjes, a retired teacher in the Netherlands, died Sunday at Chateau de Notre Dame in New Orleans. He was 87. Mr. Aafjes was born in Amsterdam, Holland, and lived in New Orleans for the past 48 years. He was a parishioner of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. Survivors include a sister, Cora Van Raan. William Charles Meyers Jr., general manager of Dave Strieffer Co., died Friday of undetermined causes at his home. He was 60. Mr. Meyers was born in New Orleans and lived in St. Bernard Parish. He was a graduate of Holy Cross High School, Soulé Business College and was an ordained deacon from Loyola Seminary. He was a member of Holy Cross Alumni. Col. Harry M. Bonnet, a National Guard veteran, died Monday of heart failure at Northshore Regional Medical Center. He was 74. Mr. Bonnet was born in New Orleans and lived in Pearl River for the past 15 years. He was a graduate of Holy Cross High School. He served 37 years with the Army National Guard. He was retired from United States Gypsum Co. He was a parishioner of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pearl River. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2732. Survivors include his wife, Audrey Lecourt Bonnet; a son, Mark C. Bonnet; five daughters, Diane Bozeman, Linda Bonnet-Mendoza, Sylvia Browne, Valerie Cox and Yvette Kugelmann; 13 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild. Mr. Smith was born in New Orleans and lived in Chalmette for the past 29 years. Survivors include his wife, Diana Serio Smith; a son, Chad Smith; two daughters, Kelly and Katy Smith; and two sisters, Patty Garcia and Carol Dufrene.
