John C. Dupre, a retired bus driver for Louisiana Transit Co., died Saturday at his home. He was 78. Mr. Dupre was born in Port Arthur, Texas, lived in Harahan for 25 years and lived in Metairie for the past 22 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Watkins; two sons, Ronald J. and Dennis W. Dupre; a daughter, Patricia Millet; three brothers, Perry, Harold and Ronnie Dupree; a sister, Barbara Nelson; and a grandchild. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Burial will be in Biloxi National Cemetery.

PLESSY, RUSSELL ALBERT SR.

Russell Albert Plessy Sr., a retired carpenter, died Sunday at St. Charles General Hospital. He was 76. Mr. Plessy was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a member of the Carpenters' Local Union and was a veteran of the Army, serving as private first class for three years. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Wiltz; a son, Russell Albert Plessy Jr.; and three grandchildren. A Mass will be said Thursday at 9 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 1210 Gov. Nicholls St. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Boissiere-Labat Family Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

RIERA, CARLYLEE ‘BECKY' FICKLIN

Carlylee "Becky" Ficklin Riera, a retired co-owner and operator of Antoine's Beauty Shop, died Sunday of heart failure at East Jefferson General Hospital. She was 70. Mrs. Riera was born in Galvez and lived in Metairie. Survivors include a son, Steven F. Riera; a daughter, Cynthia R. Del Castillo; a sister, Era "Dolly" St. Pee; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A funeral was held Wednesday at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. Burial was in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.

FALLO, EUNICE KELLY
06/03/02

Eunice Kelly Fallo, a homemaker, died Saturday at Memorial Medical Center. She was 96. Mrs. Fallo was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She was a member of Mount Calvary Church. She was a former member of the Age Club of Jefferson Parish Recreation Department and the Youthful Elders. Survivors include a niece and nephew. A funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

BREAUX, LAWRENCE

Lawrence Breaux, a retired employee of St. Charles Grain Elevator, died June 6 of cancer at Doctors Hospital of Jefferson. He was 75. Mr. Breaux was born in Seller and lived in New Sarpy for the past 50 years. He was a Navy veteran. He was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Vernon Dell Breaux; two daughters, Mae Beth Washington and Debra Lee Breaux; four stepsons, Donald, Ronald, Dwayne and Anthony Myers; three stepdaughters, Jacqueline Marshall, Patricia Davis and Antoinette Myers; four brothers, Edward Chatman and Troy, Michael and Lanis Breaux; 23 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Little Zion Baptist Church, 2200 Kenner Ave., Kenner. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in New Sarpy Cemetery. N.A. James Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

THOMAS, JABON JABIN ASANTI

Jabon Jabin Asanti Thomas, an Air Force serviceman, died Sept. 1 at Charity Hospital of injuries received in an auto accident. He was 22. Mr. Thomas was born in New Orleans and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He had been a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Dallas and Turner Chapel Church in Roseland. Survivors include his mother, Beverly Colar of Dallas; a brother, Benjamin Thomas of Harvey; and five sisters, Tenč and Shalin Taylor of Amite, Shyra Taylor Hornsby of Charlotte, N.C., Gailyn Thomas of Chicago and Lurdria Brown of Marrero. A funeral will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Church of God in Christ in Amite. A service will be held Friday at noon at St. Stephen Baptist Church, 1724 Whitney Ave. Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 a.m. at Richardson Funeral Home in Amite. Burial will be in McDonoghville Cemetery in Gretna.

LOBRANDON, ALFLEE

Alflee Lobrandon, a retired laborer, died Saturday of congestive heart failure at his sister's home in Avondale. He was 64. Mr. Lobrandon was born in Lake Providence and lived in Jefferson Parish for the past 33 years. Survivors include four sons, Jarome and Alflee Lobrandon Jr., Jermaine Tubbs and Daniel Maxie; a daughter, Francesca L. Jackson; four stepsons, Johnny Tubbs and Bryant, Keith and Isodore Vining; three stepdaughters, Serina Tubbs and Brenda and Belinda Vining; his mother, Mary Wilson Lobrandon; a brother, Ivory Lobrandon; three sisters, Carolyn Daniels, Cassie Miller and Zella Lobrandon; and seven grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Majestic Mortuary, 1833 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Resthaven Park Cemetery.

JONES, GENEVA DAVIS

Geneva Davis Jones, a homemaker, died Wednesday at Memorial Medical Center. She was 92. Mrs. Jones was born in Myrtle Grove and lived in New Orleans for the past 82 years. She was a member of Greater Asia Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Jones Harrell; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild. A private graveside service was held Monday in Providence Memorial Park. Louisiana Undertaking was in charge of arrangements.

BALLANSAW, CORDELL CLIFFORD SR.

Cordell Clifford Ballansaw Sr., an engineer, died Wednesday of a stroke at St. Vincent's Hospital in Los Angeles. He was 73. Mr. Ballansaw was born in New Orleans and lived in Los Angeles for the past 28 years. He graduated from the Tuskegee Institute School of Engineering. He was a former member of the Los Angeles County School Board and the American Legion Post No. 222 in Los Angeles for 26 years. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Julia Stampley Ballansaw; five sons, Charles Sr., Michael, Antoine, Patrick and Cordell C. Ballansaw Jr.; a daughter, Rosalind Ballansaw Belvin; a brother, Charles M. Boyd of Los Angeles; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Methodist Church of Louisiana, 1925 Ursulines Ave. Visitation begins at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, Miss. Tilly's Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

BANKS, JOE

Joe Banks, a bricklayer, died Wednesday of lung cancer at Memorial Medical Center. He was 60. Mr. Banks was born in Natchez, Miss., and lived in Westwego for the past 15 years. He was a graduate of Natchez High School and was a member of Grove AME Church of Natchez. Survivors include a son, Kevin Turner of Hahnville; his father, Sam Banks Sr. of Natchez; two brothers, Sam Banks Jr. of Columbia, S.C., and Henry Banks of Natchez; three sisters, Estelle Gooden, Delores Conners and Suzie Banks of Natchez; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at noon at Grove AME Church, 714 Lower Woodvill Road. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Littlejohn's Funeral Home, 7818 Earhart Blvd, New Orleans. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

WILLIAMS, HERMAN

Herman Williams, a retired nurse, died Tuesday of undetermined causes at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. He was 56. Mr. Williams was born in Baton Rouge and lived in New Orleans. Survivors include seven brothers, Harry, Alford, Calvin and Larry Williams, Windor and Bobby Major, and Aaron Franklin; and two sisters, Geraldine Rosaya of Baker and Nina L. Williams of Baton Rouge. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Agape Missionary Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. Visitation will be today from 2 to 5 p.m. at Miller & Daughter Mortuary in Zachary. Burial will be in Southern Memorial Gardens.

HOLMES, ROCKY JOSEPH

Rocky Joseph Holmes, a self-employed caterer, died Saturday of cancer at his home. He was 53. Mr. Holmes was born in New Orleans and was a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish. He coached for the St. Bernard Recreational Department at Kenilworth Park for 23 years. He was an All Star basketball coach for 15 years and an All Star assistant baseball coach for nine years. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Battaglia Holmes; three sons, Justin and Derek Holmes and Rocky Holmes Jr.; and two brothers, Wayne and Ted Holmes. A funeral will be held today at 7:30 p.m. at Vickers, Verrette and Dornan Funeral Home, 3027 Jean Lafitte Parkway, Chalmette. Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Burial will be private.

BALL, WILLIAM

William Ball, a retired custodial worker, died Sept. 14 at his home. He was 99. Mr. Ball was born in St. Francisville and lived in New Orleans for the past 90 years. He was a former employee of First National Bank of Commerce. Survivors include six nephews and a niece. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Tilly's Funeral Home, 2831 St. Claude Ave.

TREGLE, LAWRENCE P.

Lawrence P. Tregle, a car salesman, died Tuesday at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. He was 77. Mr. Tregle was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 48 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include a daughter, Grace T. Couvillon; two stepsons, Brian and Milton Zschiedrich Jr.; a stepdaughter, Diane Zschiedrich Adams; and seven grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at 1 p.m. at L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, 2929 Metairie Road. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories.

Grace Redding Rizzo, a retired real estate saleswoman, died Sept. 11 at her home. She was 88. Mrs. Rizzo was born in Bay St. Louis and lived in New Orleans for the past 74 years. Survivors include a son, George A. Rizzo Jr. of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass was said Sept. 13 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Burial was in Lake Lawn Park.
