Leo J. Menge, a retired truck driver for New Orleans Public Service Inc., died Friday at Meadowcrest Hospital. He was 79. Mr. Menge was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include nieces and a nephew. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, 1300 Vallette St., Algiers. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in St. Bartholomew Cemetery.

Philip Quartararo, a retired airport lineman, died at Cannon Hospice of New Orleans. He was 88. Mr. Quartararo was born in Lutcher and lived in Metairie for the past 42 years. He was a lineman at Moisant Field, now Louis Armstrong International Airport, for 30 years and a driver for Avis Rent-a-Car for the past 10 years. Survivors include his wife, Angelina Serio Quartararo; a son, Philip Quartararo Jr.; two stepsons, Louis and Vincent Caruso; a stepdaughter, Bernadine Caruso; a brother, Michael Quartararo; three sisters, Sarah Amato, Chetta Hitt and Josie Lanzetta; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 12:30 p.m. at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories.

Hamilton Joseph Jr., a retired truck driver for Martin Wine Cellar, died Monday of undetermined causes at Memorial Medical Center. He was 66. Mr. Joseph was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include a brother, Irvin Boudreaux, and a sister, Pauline Stewart. A Mass will be said Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 1210 Gov. Nicholls St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be private. Boissiere-Labat Family Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara Singleton died Wednesday of heart failure at Lallie Kemp Medical Center in Independence. She was 50. Mrs. Singleton was born in New Orleans and lived in Independence. Survivors include her husband, Willie Singleton Jr.; a son, Willie Singleton III of New Orleans; two daughters, Felicia Bonds and Berdell Nichols, both of New Orleans; three brothers, Sherman, Arthur and Calvin Washington, all of New Orleans; a sister, JoAnn Washington of New Orleans; and five grandchildren. A funeral was held Monday at St. Rock Church of God In Christ in Independence. Burial was in Leonard Chapel Cemetery. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Evan Jeoffrey Underwood, an employee of Rock ‘n' Bowl, died Sunday of a heart attack at Memorial Medical Center. He was 27. Mr. Underwood was born in Denham Springs and lived in New Orleans for the past 22 years. He was a graduate of St. Michael's School. A Special Olympian, he was a former member of Bob Hafner's Lee Circle YMCA Power Lifting Team and a member of Team Handball at the 1999 World Games. Survivors include his mother, Karen Glaudi Underwood; his father, Rodney Underwood; a brother, Adam Patrick Underwood; and his grandfather, Clifford Rembert Underwood. A Mass will be said Thursday at 2 p.m. at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Vincent De Paul Cemetery No. 2.

Adeline Lee Porea Williams, a retired custodian with the Jefferson Parish school system, died Monday of a heart attack at West Jefferson Medical Center. She was 71. Mrs. Williams was born in New Orleans and lived in Marrero for the past 38 years. She was co-owner of Williams Janitorial Service. She was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church and the Aristocrat Social and Pleasure Club. She was a former member of First Emanuel Baptist Church and a former Eastern Star. Survivors include a son, Anthony Porea Sr.; a stepson, Herbert Williams Sr.; a stepdaughter, Regina Williams; a brother, John Lee; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Davis Mortuary Service, 6820 West Bank Expressway, Marrero. Visitation will begin at noon. Burial will be in Evening Star Cemetery in Harvey.

Sister Joseph Francis Glavan, C.S.J., a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Medaille, died Wednesday at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. She was 87. Sister Joseph was born Eurilda Frances Glavan in Biloxi, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for the past 24 years. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Biloxi and received a bachelor's degree in education from Loyola University of New Orleans. She entered the convent of the Sisters of St. Joseph in New Orleans in 1936 and professed her final vows in 1942. She was a teacher at St. Joseph Academy in New Orleans, St. Joseph Parochial in Baton Rouge, Guardian Angels School in Cincinnati, Ohio, St. Ignatius School in Grand Coteau, Holy Rosary School in New Orleans, Sacred Heart School in Baton Rouge, St. Frances Cabrini School in New Orleans and the Sisters of St. Joseph School on the St. Frances Cabrini School campus. After she retired from teaching in 1994, she attended classes at the People Program and worked in community service at the Sisters of St. Joseph Convent. Survivors include a brother, Herbert Glavan, and a sister, Sylvia Glavan. A Mass will be said today at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 1200 Mirabeau Ave. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in St. Louis Cemetery No. 3. Oscar B. Goff Sr., an expediter with Avondale Shipyards, died Wednesday at Audubon Guest House. He was 81. Mr. Goff was born in Mobile, Ala., and lived in Harahan for many years. He was a former employee of Texaco Oil Co. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 175, 40/8 Voiture 1522; the National Order of Trench Rats; the William J. Guste Assembly, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus; the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 33; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6640; the Harahan Senior Citizens Community Committee on Aging; and St. Rita Council Knights of Columbus No. 3854. He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II, serving as a second-class machinist mate aboard a patrol boat that attacked the U-166 German submarine in the Gulf of Mexico. Survivors include a son, Oscar B. "Dale" Goff Jr.; a daughter, Diane Goff Gasten; a brother, Walter N. Goff; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Louise "Grammy" Fields, a retired salesperson, died Sunday of cancer at her home in Metairie. She was 72. Ms. Fields was born in Slidell, lived in New Orleans for more than 25 years, and also lived in New York and Mandeville. She had worked as a sales representative for Macy's in New York and for Riverwalk and Jax Brewery gift shops. Survivors include two daughters, Carol Aswad and Charlotte Langnes; a brother, Louis Fields; seven sisters, Joyce Pogue, Kathryn Lambert, Betty Lockett, Reshelle Beslin, Rosemarie LeFrere, Brenda Fields and Yvonne Issac; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A Mass will be said Wednesday at noon at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., New Orleans. Alley J. Rome, a retired millwright and welder, died Sunday at his home. He was 90. Mr. Rome was born in Ascension Parish and lived in the New Orleans area for 74 years and in Covington for the past four years. He was a retired member of Carpenter's Union Local No. 1931. He was a parishioner of St. Peter Catholic Church in Covington. Survivors include his wife, Marion Gertrude "Gert" Rome ; a son, Ronald J. Rome ; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Alphonse "Ninner" Tucker, a laborer, died Tuesday at his home. He was 89. Mr. Tucker was a native of Greensburg and lived in New Orleans for 69 years. Survivors include his adopted daughter, Christine Ratliff; two brothers, Leroy and Leon Tucker; two sisters, Helen Rankin and Jeannie Morris. Eddis Ann Thomas Jackson, a retired beautician, died Sept. 5 at Stonebridge Nursing Home in Gretna. She was 84. Mrs. Jackson was born in Oakdale and lived in New Orleans for the past 60 years. She was a member of Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church and its usher board and gospel chorus. She was a former member of the Gospel Music Workshop of America and the Dimensions of Faith gospel singing group. Survivors include a nephew.
