Ruble Maelene Hankins, a retired sugar packer for Domino Sugar Refinery, died Wednesday at LifeCare Hospital. She was 84. Mrs. Hankins was born in Mantachie, Miss., and lived in Arabi for the past 51 years. She graduated from Itawamba Junior College in Fulton, Miss. She worked for Domino Sugar Refinery for more than 25 years. She was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary 7194. Survivors include her husband, John Carroll Hankins; a son, Jimmy Hankins; two daughters, Patricia Panepinto and Paula Deano Steele; a brother, Paul Thornton; a sister, Eva Smith; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St. in Chalmette. Visitation is today from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.

Robert Edward Patrick, a retired repairman , died Sept. 11 of lung cancer at his home. He was 72. Mr. Patrick was born in Heldeburg, Ind., and lived in Sharpsville, Ind., and in Slidell for the past 29 years. He was a former employee of Lonestar Cement Co. Survivors include his wife, Lovina Patrick; a daughter, Judy Rainone; a stepdaughter, Susan Baker; three sisters, Wilda West, Peggy Teskey and Bobbie Ables; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held today at noon at Schoen Funeral Home, 3808 Pontchartrain Drive, Slidell. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m.

William B. "Jack" Griffin Jr., a retired public health adviser, died Thursday in Picayune, Miss. He was 86. Mr. Griffin was born in Bainbridge, Ga., and lived in New Orleans for many years and in Carriere, Miss., for many years. He was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Henry K. Griffin; a daughter, Joy Latrelle Dent of Nashville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home in Picayune. Burial will be in Sycamore Cemetery.

James "Wade" Taylor, a mechanic, died Sept. 8 of undetermined causes at his home. He was 42. Mr. Taylor was born in Hazlehurst, Miss., and lived in Gretna. Survivors include his father, Willie "Bill" Taylor; his mother, Marilyn Taylor; four brothers, Jeffery Simmons and Darrin, Jessie Charles and Demond Taylor; and five sisters, Willie Lue Holland of Baton Rouge, Recheka Davis of Utica, Miss., Frances Hamilton and Nancy and Courtney Taylor. A funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at Davis Mortuary Service, 230 Monroe St., Gretna. Burial will be private.

Ida Mae Town- send, a professional singer, died Tuesday at Northshore Regional Medical Center. She was 91. Mrs. Town- send was born in Houston and lived in Slidell for the past 12 years. She was a former singer for big bands in the 1930s and 1940s and on radio broadcasts in Houston. She was a former member of First Baptist Church of South Houston, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Slidell and was involved in the Senior Craft Club and Sunshine Clubs. Survivors include a son, Carroll Townsend; a sister, Beulah McCurdy of Crosbyton, Texas; and a grandchild. A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West, Slidell. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Matinburg Baptist Church Cemetery in Matinburg, Texas.

Frances M. Montelius, a homemaker, died Thursday of cancer at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. She was 76. Mrs. Montelius was born in Garyville and lived in Marrero for the past 13 years. James Chester Davis, a retired machinist for New Orleans Public Service Inc., died Monday at Metropolitan Hospice. He was 76. Mr. Davis was born in New Orleans and lived in Kenner for the past 48 years. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Divine Providence Catholic Church, where he was an usher and a member of the Men's Club. He was a Navy veteran. He also was a member of Dante Lodge No. 174, Jerusalem Temple, Farhad Grotto, Dune Buggy Unit, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6640 and the American Legion Post 0175. Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Schilling Davis; a son, Lawrence G. Davis; a daughter, Laurie Hansen; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Miriam McGee Johnson, special education area coordinator with Jefferson Parish public schools and adjunct professor at Our Lady of Holy Cross College, died Friday of brain cancer at her home. She was 57. Mrs. Johnson was born in Macon, Ga., and lived in Gretna for the past 33 years. She attended Margaret McEvoy High School, the University of Georgia and Mercer University and received a master's degree in education from the University of New Orleans. She had taught at Helen Cox Junior High School. She was a past president of the Central Office and District Administrators Association and a member of the Jefferson Parish public schools negotiating team. She was a member of the Council for Exceptional Children, Kappa Kappa Iota Chi and St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Survivors include nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Mausoleum.

Allen Holloway, a laborer at Avondale shipyard, died Tuesday of a gunshot wound at Marlborough Gate Place at Robert Street. He was 42. Mr. Holloway was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a graduate of Walter L. Cohen High School and attended Ohio State University. Survivors include his mother, Maude Oselen; his stepfather, Lawrence Cotton; and a sister, Cynthia McCaskill. Louis Calvin Dampeer, a retired customer service supervisor at the U.S. Postal Service, died Thursday of heart failure at Kenner Regional Medical Center. He was 55. Mr. Dampeer was born in New Hebron, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for the past 50 years. He attended Southern University at New Orleans. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a parishioner of All Saints Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Verilin Julien Dampeer; a son, Dustin Dampeer; a daughter, Lesley Dampeer; a stepson, Julian Kohlman; his mother, Berthena Berket Dampeer; and a grandchild.
