Mary E. Goddard

Mary Elizabeth "Betty" (Dix) Goddard of Kennebunkport, Maine, and formerly of Andover, died Monday, June 18 at home.
Mrs. Goddard was an assistant librarian at Merrimack Valley Textile Museum in North Andover for more than 20 years.
Born in Ashland, she attended Abbot Academy in Andover and graduated from Bradford Junior College in Haverhill.
Mrs. Goddard was a member of the Andover Garden Club. During the summer, she lived in Kennebunkport for several years.
She was the widow of Harold Goddard. Members of her family include sons, Clifford T. Goddard of Haverhill, and John M. Goddard of Kennebunkport; sister, Marion Hamilton of Westborough; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Friday, June 22 at 1 p.m. at Spring Grove Cemetery, Abbot Street, Andover.
Arrangements are by Bibber Memorial Chapel in Kennebunk.

Karl Haartz

Karl Haartz, 91, of McLean, Va. and formerly of Andover, died Saturday, June 2 at home.
Mr. Haartz was born in Somerville. He graduated from Scituate High School. In 1932, he married Bessie Carter of High Plain Road and moved to Andover where he lived for nearly 60 years.
He was a veteran of nearly four years, having served in the U.S. Army in Italy during World War II. After the war, Mr. Haartz became a civil engineer and worked for the Massachusetts Department of Public Works until his retirement in 1979.
During his years in Andover, Mr. Haartz was an observer and participant in both local and state politics. He regularly attended and participated in Andover's town meetings. He submitted proposals to the state legislature, wrote letters regularly to newspapers, including the Andover Townsman, and corresponded regularly with numerous elected officials at all levels of government.
In addition to being known locally for his political opinions, Mr. Haartz was an avid gardener and good neighbor. He was known for sharing the bounty of his garden throughout the growing season.
Members of his family include his daughter, Karla Haartz Cortelyou and her husband, Clifford, with whom he lived; a son, David, and his wife, Dr. Marilyn Fingerhut of Geneva, Switzerland and Alexandria, Va.; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Chapel in the West Parish Garden Cemetery on Monday, July 2, at noon.

Sally M. Daher

Sally M. (Maroon) Daher, founder of Daher's Shoes chain, which includes a store on Andover's Main Street, died Sunday, June 24 in North Andover.
Mrs. Daher, who lived in North Andover, was born in Manchester, N.H.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Church and its Sodality, the Holy Family Women's Auxiliary and also the National Shoe Realtors Association.
She was a past president of St. Basil's Seminary and was once featured in "Women You Should Know."
She founded Daher's Shoes in 1963 when she set up a small store in Methuen selling factory seconds and overstock from Majestic Shoe Co. Her advertising slogan "Sally Sez" focused on fashion tips and shoe trends and she made the commitment to carry on the business after her husband's death.
She was the widow of Charles F. Daher Sr. Members of her family include three sons, Charles and his wife, Elizabeth Daher, John and his wife, Paula Daher, all of Andover, and Kenneth E. Daher of North Andover; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and John Belko of North Andover; sisters, Anna Maroon of Nashua, N.H., Nan Mallen of North Andover, Bessie Daher of North Andover, and Hazel LaPlante of Montreal, Quebec; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Edward Maroon.
Friends may call today, Thursday, June 28 from 2 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant St., Methuen.
A Mass will be celebrated tomorrow, Friday, June 29 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church, Lawrence. Burial will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Methuen.

Robert F. Pelletier

Robert F. "Bob" Pelletier, 73, of Andover, died Wednesday, June 20 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Mr. Pelletier was a civil engineer for an engineering firm.
Born in Somerville, he graduated from Wakefield High School and Northeastern University.
During World War II, Mr. Pelletier served in the Army Air Corps.
He lived in Andover for 32 years, having formerly lived in Burlington.
Members of his family include his wife, Esther B. Capone; two brothers, Donald Pelletier of Wakefield and David Pelletier of Woburn; and several nieces and nephews.

Theresa A. Symosek

Theresa A. (McTiernan) Symosek, 77, of Andover, died Saturday, June 23 at her home.
Born in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mrs. Symosek graduated from Bryant & Stratton Business School in Boston. She was co-owner and executive assistant for Old Colony Textiles in Boston.
Mrs. Symosek was a member of St. Augustine Church. She enjoyed traveling, reading and caring for her family.
Members of her family include her husband of 49 years, Frank J. Symosek; a son, Peter Symosek of Shoreview, Minn.; a daughter, Jan Symosek of Boston; a brother Hugh McTiernan of Yarmouthport; and three nieces.

Mary Forzese

Mary (Reitano) Forzese, 94, formerly of North Andover, died Thursday, June 21 at Wingate Nursing Home in Andover.
Mrs. Forzese was a seamstress at Grieco Brothers for more than 33 years before she retired.
She was born and educated in Pedara, Sicily, Italy. She moved to this country in 1929 and lived in Lawrence until she moved to North Andover 35 years ago.
Mrs. Forzese was member of St. Michael's parish and a former member of Holy Rosary Church. She participated in activities at the North Andover Senior Citizens Center and was a member of the Amalgamate Clothing Workers Union.
She was the widow of D. Ned Forzese. Members of her family include two sons, Bart and his wife, Josephine Forzese, and Anthony Forzese, all of North Andover; a daughter and son-in-law, Ida and Anthony Giuffrida of North Andover; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also mother of the late Frances Forzese.

M. Arthur Neyman, MD

M. Arthur Neyman, M.D., 64, of Andover, died Saturday, June 23 at home.
He was born in Lowell and graduated from Phillips Academy, class of 1954. He earned a bachelor's degree from Yale University, class of 1958, and earned his MD degree in 1962 from Tufts University. He served his surgical residency at Boston City Hospital and trained in urology at Johns Hopkins, Hahneman, and Philadelphia General hospitals.
From 1967 to 1969, he served in the US Air Force and was stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Tex.
Dr. Neyman returned to Lowell following his military service and founded Merrimack Urology in 1969. He practiced there for 32 years. He was formerly chief of surgery at Lowell General Hospital and served on medical executive committees at Lowell General Hospital and the former St. John's Hospital in Lowell. For many years, he served as the medical adviser on the professional advisory board of the Greater Lowell Visiting Nurses Association.
Dr. Neyman lived in Andover for the past 20 years. He was a member of Temple Beth El, and served on its board of trustees. He held membership in the Vesper Country Club and was an avid tennis player.
Members of his family include his wife of 41 years, Susan (Bloom) Neyman; children, Stephen and Kathleen Neyman of North Andover, Debra (Neyman) and Michael Silverman of Westborough, and Eric and Laurie Neyman of Newton; five grandchildren; and a sister, Cynthia Karas of Stamford, Conn.
