Edward J. "Red" O'Hagan, 85, of Andover, died Thursday, July 12 at Lawrence General Hospital.
Mr. O'Hagan was a custodian for the Andover school system until retiring in 1975.
He was born in Andover. He was a member of St. Augustine Church.
During World War II, Mr. O'Hagan served in the Army.
He was the widower of Eunice (O'Donnell) O'Hagan.
Members of his family include his sisters, Rita Kelley of Haverhill; and Josephine "Jo" O'Hagan and Winifred "Winnie" O'Hagan, both of Andover; a brother, Jack O'Hagan of Lawrence and several nieces and nephews.

David Fraser Gilmore

David Fraser Gilmore of Mount Desert Island, Maine, died Monday, July 2 after a short illness.
Members of his family include his parents, James and Constance Gilmore of Andover; his wife, Ellen; son, James; and sisters, Linda Gilmore of San Antonio, Texas, Janet Waters of Danville, N.H. and Ann Pelaez of Byfield.
Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Church, Southwest Harbor, Maine, on Sunday, July 8.
Hartley M. Burnham

Hartley M. Burnham, 82, of Andover, died Saturday, July 21 at Lawrence General Hospital.
Born in Winthrop, Mr. Burnham graduated from Tufts University and received a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. An engineer at Westinghouse and General Electric in Lynn, he played a significant role in the development of the afterburner, a major advance in jet fighter engine technology. He retired after 30 years at AVCO in Wilmington, where he worked in space-program development for the Apollo, Gemini, Voyager and Mariner missions.
Mr. Burnham served as a navigator in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He served on the Andover Housing Authority for 10 years, was a member of many professional and engineering societies, and enjoyed skiing.
Members of his family include his wife of 56 years, Nancy Ann (Kelley) Burnham; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Dr. Ann Burnham of Carlisle; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Jane and Wilet A. Ranney of Boulder, Colo.; and five grandchildren.

Olga D. Capano

Olga D. (Ferrandi) Capano, 81, of Andover, died Saturday, July 21 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
Mrs. Capano was born in Everett and grew up in Revere. She moved to Andover a year ago after living in Clearwater, Fla. for 16 years.
Members of her family include her husband, George Capano; sons and daughters-in-law, George Jr. and Madeline Capano of Andover, Frank and Joan Capano of Hingham; daughters, Nancy Walker and her husband Michael of Danville, N.H., Lydia of Medford and Josephine Goldin of Andover; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was also the sister of the late Cecella Rossi, Catherine Generizo, Lillian Carbone, and Peter, Philip "Jackie", John, Dewey and Rudolph Ferrandi.

Josephine S. Espinola

Josephine Santa (Bonacorsi) Espinola, 91, of Lawrence, died Friday, July 20 at Wingate Nursing Home.
Born and educated in Lawrence, Mrs. Espinola was a sales clerk at Russem's and Smith's Corset Shop, retiring in 1973. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church in Lawrence and the Sons of Italy.
She was the widow of Alexander Espinola, who died in 1998.
Members of her family include her daughter, Kathleen Lindner of Lawrence; brother, Sam of Seabrook, N.H.; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert C. Mitchell

Robert C. Mitchell, 94, of Andover's Ballardvale area, died Wednesday, July 18 at Lawrence General Hospital.
Mr. Mitchell was a licensed union electrician for the Boston & Maine Railroad for 44 years before he retired.
Born in Providence, R.I., he was raised and educated in Malden and Melrose. He lived in Andover for the last 65 years.
Mr. Mitchell was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 674. He was a member of the Balladvale Tri-Partisan.
He was the widower of Geraldine A. (Clark) Mitchell.
Members of his family include his son, Lawrence L. Mitchell of Andover; brother, H. Edward Mitchell Jr. of White River Junction, Vt.; sisters, Mabel Pike and Natalie Harding, both of Concord, N.H.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Robert C. Mitchell Jr., Clark Mitchell, Diane Tyrrell and Linda N. MacLean.

Raymond M. Lynch

Raymond M. Lynch, 82, of Andover died Tuesday, July 24 at Lawrence General Hospital.
Mr. Lynch was a warehouse foreman for Capital Liquor Distributors and also worked at Andover Liquors in Shawsheen Square.
A lifelong Andover resident, he graduated from Punchard High School, where he was captain of the football team and was an all-state player.
During World War II, Mr. Lynch served in the Army in Tunisia, Naples and Rome.
He was a member of St. Augustine Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Purple Knights Alumni of Cross and the Andover High School Hall of Fame.
Members of his family include his wife, Anna (Gill) Lynch; sons, Vincent Lynch of Sanford, Maine, David F. and his wife Valerie Lynch of Ogunquit, Maine, and Raymond J. and his wife Kathleen A. Lynch of Haverhill; daughters, Judith A. Lynch of Hampton, N.H., and Cathleen M. and her husband Michael McDonald of Haverhill; brothers, Gerald Lynch of San Antonio, Texas, and Donald Lynch of Holbrook; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Calling hours are scheduled for today, Thursday, July 26 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Burke Funeral Home, 390 N. Main St.
The funeral will be tomorrow, Friday, July 27 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Church in Andover.
Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery.
George C. Akerstrom

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 4 at 2:30 p.m. at Phillips Academy's Cochran Chapel for George Charles "Swede" Akerstrom, 88, of Bedford, N.H.
Mr. Akerstrom died Saturday, July 14 in Bedford. He was an associate member of the Phillips Academy class of 1945.
He was also a volunteer coach for Andover lacrosse students.
He was born in Bronx, N.Y., and graduated from Flushing (N.Y.) High School in 1931, where he was an All-New York center for two years, All-Metropolitan center one year and football captain for two years. He was elected president of the general organization of Flushing High School, serving two years.
Mr. Akerstrom graduated from Colgate University in 1935, where he majored in geology, lettered in football and ice hockey, and was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He was inducted into the Colgate University Hall of Honor in 1996.
Mr. Akerstrom began a coaching career in 1935 as assistant coach of varsity football at Middlebury College.
He served in the Coast Guard as a lieutenant junior grade in Newport, R.I., from 1942 to 1943.
He joined Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, N.H., in 1943, where he taught earth science, coached football, hockey and lacrosse, and served as athletic director until he retired in 1978. Kimball's Akerstrom Arena was dedicated to him in 1988 and he also received the John Mariucci Award of the American Hockey Coaches Association in 1992.
After retiring, Mr. Akerstrom began selling computer supplies for Northeast Computer of Salem.
Members of his family include his wife of 11 years, Helen Bronk-Akerstrom; daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Richard Graham of Beloit, Wis.; stepdaughter, Barbara and her husband Robert Hiruo of Newtown, Conn.; two stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the hockey programs at Colgate University, Hamilton, N.Y., Kimball Union Academy, Meriden, N.H., or Phillips Academy, Andover.
Urn burial will be Sunday, Aug. 5 at 10 a.m. in Mill Cemetery, Meriden.
