Joseph F. Vinciguerra

Judge Joseph F. Vinciguerra, 93, of Andover died Tuesday, Sept. 7.
Judge Vinciguerra was born in Lawrence.
He was judge of the Municipal Court of Enfield, N.H., and a member of the National Council of Juvenile Court Judges and New Hampshire Municipal Judges Association.
Judge Vinciguerra received an L.L.B. degree from Suffolk University Law School in 1938 and later served as director of the Suffolk Law Alumni. He founded and managed Winwar & Sons Inc. and Sani-Shield Products Corp., both in Lawrence.
The inventor was recently awarded a patent for his automatic golf ball putting and retrieval system.
Judge Vinciguerra served in many capacities with the Lions Club, including vice president, deputy district governor and international director.
He served as orator and commissioner of Italian culture while active in the Sons of Italy and as deputy director in Beverly. Judge Vinciguerra played a prominent role in the 500th anniversary Columbus Day parade and celebration in Boston.
He was president of the Italian College Club, chairman of the Small Business Bureau of Greater Lawrence and a Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts. Judge Vinciguerra was also active in the Republican Party in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Vermont and participated in several presidential, congressional and gubernatorial campaigns.
An artist at heart, he brightened the Christmas season with his decorative calligraphy throughout the New England states.
Members of his family include his wife, Erminia (Bonaccorso) Vinciguerra of Andover; son and daughter-in-law, Salvatore J. and Grace Vinciguerra of Newton; daughters, Concettina S. Vinciguerra and Carmelina Hennessy of Andover and her husband, Leo Hennessy; sister, Mary Tartaro of Mountain View, Calif.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was said Friday at St. Augustine Church. Burial was in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

Alice W. MacLean

Alice W. MacLean, 81, of Chelmsford died Monday, Sept. 13, at Lowell General Hospital after an extended illness.
Mrs. MacLean was born in Methuen. She graduated from Methuen High School in 1936 and from the McIntosh School in 1937.
She moved with her family to North Andover and was employed by the Tyer Rubber Co. of Andover until she married Philip L. MacLean in 1947.
Mrs. MacLean lived in Andover and was later employed by New England Telephone Co. and The Curtain Shop of North Andover until she moved to Chelmsford in 1987.
Members of her family include her son and daughter-in-law, Allan P. and Linda MacLean of Chelmsford; five grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
She was the daughter of the late Phillip and Vera O. (Finnegan) White and sister of the late Norman White.
Calling hours are scheduled for today, Thursday, Sept. 16, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Jerome W. Cross

Jerome W. Cross, 84, of Andover died Friday, Aug. 27.
Mr. Cross was born in Andover. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy and graduated from Dartmouth College.
Mr. Cross owned and operated Cross Coal Co. and Andover Bookstore before he retired.
Members of his family include his wife, Ethel Cross of Andover; daughter, Penelope; sons, Jeremy Cross, Peter Cross, Christopher Cross, Jonathan Cross and Benjamin Cross; one nephew, and two nieces.
Burial was in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Doris I. Connolly

Doris I. (Topping) Connolly, 71, of Chelmsford died Saturday, July 10, at home.
Mrs. Connolly was born in Andover.
She attended St. Mary Church in Chelmsford.
Members of her family include her husband, Edward Connolly of Chelmsford; daughter, Linda Houle of Manchester, N.H.; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Jeanne Connolly Jr. of Townsend; brothers, Edgar A. Topping of St. Petersburg, Fla., Henry J. Topping of Nashua, N.H., and Kenneth G. Topping of Mount Plymouth, Fla.; sister, Jeanette Voden of Dearborn Heights, Mich.; son-in-law, Don Houle of Lowell; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was said Wednesday at St. Mary Church. Burial was in St. Augustine Cemetery.

Alvin H. Magoon

Alvin H. Magoon, 67, of Andover died Saturday, July 10, at Holy Family Hospital and Medical Center in Methuen.
Mr. Magoon was born in Flint, Mich. He was raised and educated in Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High.
Mr. Magoon began his military career in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He served three tours and earned three residential Unit Citations, one with one star and one with five stars, three United Nations Service Medals and three Good Conduct Medals.
Mr. Magoon was honorably discharged Sept. 11, 1958, with the rank of staff sergeant. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and served two tours and received many decorations, ribbons and citations.
Mr. Magoon was a veterans representative for the Massachusetts Division of Employment Security in Lawrence and Lowell before he retired in 1992.
He was a past officer and treasurer of American Legion Post 8, Andover, and a member of the New England Chapter of Chosin Few.
Members of his family include his wife of 47 years, Evelyn E. (Dufresne) Magoon of Andover; son, Francis A. Magoon of Andover; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie L. and Michael J. Haley of Westford; brother, Earl P. Magoon of Pelham, N.H.; sisters, Ruth Allen of Methuen and Barbara McManus of New Hampshire; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were scheduled for Wednesday, July 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, July 15, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Phyllis N. Garris

Phyllis N. (Stevens) Garris, 90, of Andover died Tuesday, July 6, at Lawrence General Hospital.
Mrs. Garris was born in Stow, Maine and raised in Fryeburg, Maine, where she attended Fryeburg Academy.
She was a former resident of Portland, Maine, where she was a life member of Order of Eastern Star, Deering Chapter.
Mrs. Garris had lived in Andover for 25 years.
Members of her family include her daughter and son-in-law, Pauline P. and Denis Dougal of Andover, with whom she lived; son and daughter-in-law, Richard O. and Elizabeth Garris of Clearwater, Fla.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was the widow of Carl A. Garris.
Graveside services at Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterville, Maine, were private.
Arrangements were by Croswell Funeral Home in North Reading.
