Juliet Kellogg French

Juliet Kellogg French, 91, of Providence, R.I., died Wednesday, Oct. 17 at home.
She was born in Brookline and went to the Park School in Brookline and graduated from the Windsor School in Boston in 1927. After returning from a postgraduate year in Italy, she lectured for the New England Wildflower Society and later was the curator of birds at the Museum of Natural History on Newbury Street in Boston.
She married Waters "Joe" Kellogg in 1939 and they settled in Andover until Joe was called to Navy service in World War II. During the war, Juliet lived in her family home in Brookline.
After the war, Juliet followed Joe's career living in Rhode Island, New York, and finally Andover. Joe died soon after their move to Andover and Juliet quickly became an active member of the community as well as contributing to many local and regional civic organizations.
She played leadership roles in the Massachusetts Audubon Society, the New England Wildflower Society, the Boston Museum of Science, and AVIS (Andover Village Improvement Society). She was also an active member of the League of Women Voters, the Trustee of Reservations, the Parents' League, the Benevolent Society, the Essex County Greenbelt, the Nature Conservancy, and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
In addition to these civic activities, Juliet worked as the archivist for Phillips Academy where she enjoyed being a teaching resource for students doing history term papers.
In 1983, she married Hollis S. French and lived in the Annisquam section of Gloucester. There, she became active in additional organizations closer to her home.
She was a docent at the Peabody Museum in Salem and led tours for the historical society in Gloucester. She delivered meals on wheels with Hollis until she was 87 and he was 92. She also helped him with the Annisquam Sea Fair as well as taking her weekly turn at the Annisquam Exchange. Since the death of Hollis in 2000, she has lived with her daughter, Elsie Morse, in Providence, R.I., and enjoyed being part of a Brown University faculty member family.
In addition to her daughter, members of her family include sons, Charles Kellogg of Manchester and Gardner Kellogg of Littleton, N.H.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on her birthday, Sunday, Dec. 9 at the Annisquam Village Church, Gloucester, at 2 p.m.

Charline Scanlon

Charline (Miller) Scanlon, 92, of Andover, died Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Wayland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Scanlon worked with Public Service Co. of New Hampshire for 10 years and was a homemaker.
Born in Nashua, N.H., she graduated from Nashua High School in 1927. She was a longtime Andover resident.
She was a longtime volunteer and member of the Lawrence YWCA board of directors and served on the Lawrence Tuberculosis and Health Association board of directors. She was a longtime member of Christ Church and volunteered in the thrift shop there for several years.
She was the widow of John M. Scanlon.
Members of her family include her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Paul Trafton of Wayland; sister, Lenore Naples of Auburn; two grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Raymond M. McAllister

Raymond Michael McAllister, 59, of Main Street, Andover, died Saturday, Oct. 20 at home.
Mr. McAllister worked in the automobile parts industry in Lawrence.
Born and educated in Lawrence, he attended Lawrence High School.
Members of his family include his sister, Maureen A. Middleton of Methuen; brother, Brian P. McAllister of East Hampstead, N.H.; two nieces; one nephew; two grandnieces; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Betty Pendergast

The wake for Betty Pendergast of Billerica, the longtime pastoral assistant at St. Robert Bellarmine Parish in Andover, is tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 2 from 3 to 7 p.m. at St. Theresa's Parish, Boston Road, Billerica.
Mrs. Pendergast died Monday, Oct. 29, of cancer. She was pastoral assistant at St. Robert's for the past 12 years.

Patricia Scully Anderson

Patricia Scully Anderson, 71, of Madison, Conn. and formerly of Andover, died Tuesday, Oct. 30 at the Madison House in Madison, after suffering a severe stroke.
Mrs. Anderson was a realtor in Andover for many years.
She was born in Middletown, Conn. and graduated from Central Connecticut State College.
She was a member of St. Margaret Church in Madison and was active in AAUW. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends and knitting for family members.
Members of her family include her husband, Merwin Anderson; four sons and their wives, Douglas Anderson of Golden, Colo., Richard Anderson of Indianapolis, Ind., Robert Anderson of Trumbull, Conn. and Theodore Anderson of Annapolis, Md.; two brothers, Robert Scully of Portland, Conn. and Richard Scully of Cottonwood, Ariz.; a sister, Margaret Daly of Middletown, Conn.; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 2 at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Church in Madison, Conn.
Calling hours are today, Thursday, Nov. 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Swan Funeral Home in Madison, Conn.
Burial will be private.
Irwin M. Alickman

Irwin M. Alickman, 62, of 3 Yardley Road, died Sunday, Oct. 28 at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Born in Winthrop, he attended Lawrence schools and received degrees from Northeastern University and the Massachusetts School of Art. He owned Bakery Distributors Inc. with his parents and his wife and later owned Wise Snacks Inc. He was also co-owner of Highland Financial Associates of Methuen.
Mr. Alickman lived in Andover for the past 24 years.
Members of his family include his wife of 41 years, Linda (Shanbar) Alickman of Andover; two daughters, Elenore Joyce of Ramona, Calif., and Stacey Lynn of Somerville; a brother, Allen A. Alickman of Roslindale; a sister, Phyllis Gail Porcella and her husband Richard of Revere; and several nieces and nephews.

Mark W. Lyons

Mark W. Lyons, 41, of Andover, died Tuesday, Oct. 30 from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident in Salem, N.H.
Mr. Lyons was a reconditioner at Rockingham Toyota Dodge & Nissan Inc. in Salem, N.H.
He was born in Methuen.
Members of his family include his mother, Gloria Lyons of Andover; brothers, John L. Lyons of Atlanta, Ga., Michael and Christopher Lyons, both of Dillon, Colo., and Peter J. Lyons of Dublin, Ohio; sisters, Kathleen A. Lyons of Newmarket, N.H., Mary Phillips of Candia, N.H., and Janet Cummings of Lunenburg; one aunt; one uncle; and several nieces and nephews.

Bruce E. Douglass

Bruce E. Douglass, 66, of North Andover and formerly a longtime Andover resident, died Thursday, Nov. 1 at his daughter's home in Foxboro.
Mr. Douglass was a contractor for Channel Building of Andover for several years. More recently, he worked at Lawrence Savings Bank and Habitat for Humanity.
Born in Lawrence, he graduated from Wentworth Institute of Boston.
Mr. Douglass served in the Army and he was a member of Clan MacPherson group of bag pipers for 37 years and was a past pipe major.
Members of his family include his wife of 43 years, Marilyn M. (Mozeen) Douglass; daughters, Ellen Douglass of Foxboro and Laurie Douglass Paul of Berwick, Maine; brothers, Alan B. Douglass of Otisfield, Maine, and Gordon E. Douglass of Bradenton, Fla.; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; a niece; and a nephew.
