Joseph Melvin

Joseph "Joe" Melvin, 82, of Andover died Wednesday, July 7, at Lawrence General Hospital.
Mr. Melvin was born and educated in Lawrence. He graduated from Lawrence High in 1934.
Mr. Melvin lived in Andover for 18 years.
He was a gunners mate 2nd class in the U.S. Navy during World War II serving aboard the USS Pocomoke in the South Pacific.
Mr. Melvin worked in the Lawrence Water Department for 35 years before he retired.
He was a daily communicant of St. Augustine Church and a member of Andover Common Socialites and Arlington Athletic and Social Club of Lawrence and a former member of Stanleys Cafe's Bowling League.
Members of his family include his wife, Agnes (Cairnie) Beanland Melvin of Andover; stepchildren, John R. Beanland of Manchester, N.H., and Janice Beanland of Andover; brother, Robert Melvin of Tilton, N.H.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral Mass was said Monday at St. Augustine Church. Burial was in Spring Grove Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Charles Dewhirst, Edgerley & Bessom Funeral Home.

Fleurette Poirier

Fleurette (Poisson) Poirier, 78, of Lawrence died Sunday, July 11, at Academy Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Poirier was born and educated in Biddeford, Maine.
The homemaker was a member of St. Patrick Church in Lawrence and an avid jigsaw puzzle fan.
Members of her family include her husband of 58 years, John Poirier of Lawrence; sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Jane Poirier of Pepperell and Leo and Sandra Poirier of Andover; daughters and sons-in-law, Lucille and William Griffith of Methuen, Dorothy and Daniel Samson of Lewiston, Maine, and Claudette and Elbridge Gerry of Lawrence; brother, William Poisson of Biddeford, Maine; sister, Theresa Belanger of Shapleigh, Maine; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late John Poirier.
A Mass was said Wednesday in St. Patrick Church. Burial was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in North Andover.
Arrangements were by Rosinski Salem Street Funeral Home Inc. in Lawrence.
Norman L. Richardson Sr.

Norman Lewis Richardson Sr., 92, of Andover died Wednesday, July 7, at Sutton Hill Nursing Home in North Andover after a brief illness.
Mr. Richardson was born in Somerville in 1907. He had lived in Reading and Topsfield for many years before he retired and moved to Andover. He also had a vacation home on Monhegan Island, Maine.
Mr. Richardson was an electrical contractor for 50 years before he retired from his electrical company in the late 1970s.
He was a lifelong member of the Masons and Shriners and an avid golfer.
Members of his family include his son, Norman L. Richardson Jr. of Florida; grandson, Norman L. Richardson III of Andover; granddaughters Sharon Mulrey and Elise Chisholm, both of North Andover; and five great-grandchildren.
He was the widower of Elizabeth S. Richardson, who had been his wife for 55 years.
A private service was held Tuesday at Trinity Episcopal Church in Topsfield.
Isabelle M. Dobbie

Isabelle M. Dobbie, 76, of 17 Beech Circle died Wednesday, July 7, at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.
Ms. Dobbie was born in Andover. She graduated from Punchard High and Lowell State Teachers College.
Ms. Dobbie taught at Ditson School in Billerica and West Elementary School. She was principal of West Elementary, Shawsheen and Sanborn, where she worked until she retired in 1984. She gave 38 years of service to Andover children.
Ms. Dobbie was a member of Free Christian Church and the Andover Senior Center Bowling League.
She was involved with the swimming program at the YMCA and moderator for the annual Andover Spelling Bee.
She enjoyed word puzzles and bird watching.
Members of her family include her brother, Robert Dobbie of Easthampton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Dewhirst & Conte Funeral Home. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Walter J. Anderson

Walter J. Anderson, 68, of Andover died Friday, July 9, at Lawrence General Hospital.
Mr. Anderson was born in Boston
He was employed by Alliance Energy Corp. when he retired in 1995.
Mr. Anderson was a member of St. Augustine Church.
Members of his family include his wife, Elizabeth A. (Mulligan) Anderson of Andover; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and John Scaplen Jr. of Chelmsford; sons, Walter J. Anderson Jr. of Norfolk, Va., Karl J. Anderson of Lowell and James T. Anderson of Andover; brother, Karl J. Anderson of Ohio; sisters, Mildred Maxwell of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Dolores Murphy of Rockland and Marie Scully of Billerica; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Lisa M. Anderson and son of the late Selma and Tony Montecalvo.
A funeral Mass was said Tuesday at St. Augustine Church. Burial was in Spring Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were by Burke Funeral Home.
Paul S. McKinnon

Paul S. McKinnon, 88, of Sun City Center, Fla., died Tuesday, June 8, after a year-long illness.
Mr. McKinnon and his wife, Anna (Sargent) McKinnon lived on Dunbarton Street in Shawsheen Village for 33 years. He was an active member of the Andover Taxpayers Association, president of Shawsheen School PTA, and a member of several Boston paper trade organizations.
After he retired from the Oxford Paper Co. of Lawrence and Rumford, Maine, he and his wife moved to Sun City in 1975. He was an ambulance driver for the SCC Emergency squad for more than eight years and a member of the entertainment committee, volleyball club and Sawdust Engineers. He served three years as president of the Audubon Society and he and his wife conducted many club trips in Florida and Georgia.
Besides his wife, members of his family include his sons, Paul S. McKinnon of Merrimac, Donald B. McKinnon of Andover and Robert D. McKinnon of New Boston, N.H; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
His daughter, Judith Ann Beaton, died in 1989.
A memorial service was held June 12 at United Community Church. Interment will take place in Mason, N.H.

Anne D. Sokol

Anne D. Sokol, 95, of Andover died Saturday, June 26, at Holy Family Hospital and Medical Center in Methuen.
Ms. Sokol was born in Tehran, Iran. The former Watertown resident had lived in Andover for a year and a half.
Members of her family include her son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas P. and Elizabeth Sanders of Charleston, S.C.; daughter, Elizabeth Beyranevand of North Reading; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Monday at St. James Armenian Apostolic Church in Cambridge.
