Evelyn H. Cole
Thursday, December 20, 2001
Evelyn H. (Steindl) Cole, 99, of Andover, died Thursday, Dec. 13 at Wingate Nursing Home.

Mrs. Cole was a dressmaker and, in more recent years, was a teacher's aide in Andover public schools.

Born in Germany, she was raised and educated in Lawrence. She had lived in Andover for several years.

Mrs. Cole was a member of the Andover Senior Citizens and was active with the Andover Garden Club.

She was the widow of Frederick B. Cole.

Members of her family inlcude her grandchildren, Sandra A. Cole of Stephens City, Va., Deborah A. Andrese of Atlanta, Ga., Gary F. Cole of Leavenworth, Kan. and James P. Cole of San Diego, Calif.; four great-granddaughters; and a great-grandson. She was also mother of the late Frederick B. Cole Jr.

There were no calling hours and funeral services were private under the direction of Charles Dewhirst, Edgerley & Bessom Funeral Home, 33 Pearson St., Andover.

Arnold M. Priestley Jr.
Thursday, December 20, 2001
Arnold M. Priestley Jr., 67, of Salem, N.H. and formerly of Andover, died Sunday, Dec. 16 at his home.

Born in Barre and educated at Lawrence High School, Mr. Priestley was retired from the sales department of Kalwall Co. in Manchester, N.H. He also worked at Raytheon Co. in Andover, Sanders Associates in Nashua, N.H. and Avco in Wilmington.

Mr. Priestley served in the Navy. A resident of Salem for 38 years, he was a member of Salem Lions Club, Derry/Salem Elks Lodge, Salem Rams Football Booster Club and Tenney United Methodist Church. He was a sports enthusiast and an avid golfer.

Members of his family include his wife of 46 years, Anne; sons and their wives, Arnold M. III and Cheryl Priestley of East Madison, N.H. and Scott and Susan Priestley of Windham, N.H.; daughter, Cathy Ann and husband, Kevin Stacey of Salem, N.H.; his mother, Mary Priestley of Lawrence; sister, Jeanne Smith of San Bernadino, Calif.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 20 Merrimack St., Suite 1, Manchester, NH 03101; or to American Diabetes Association, 249 Canal St., Manchester, NH 03101.

Calling hours were scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 19 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, N.H.

Funeral services are today, Thursday, Dec. 20 at 10 a.m.

Anthony P. Leonardi

Anthony P. Leonardi, 58, of North Andover and formerly of Andover, died Wednesday, Dec. 12 at home.

Mr. Leonardi was assistant vice president for GTE, Government Systems Group, head of Informations Technology Group in Needham.

Born in Methuen, he was raised in Andover and graduated from Central Catholic High School in Lawrence in 1961. He received a business degree from Merrimack College in 1965.

Mr. Leonardi lived in North Andover for 26 years, having formerly lived in Andover.

Members of his family include his wife, Eileen E. Leonardi; son, Christopher D. Leonardi of North Andover; parents, Michael and Josephine Leonardi-Calabrese of Hampton, N.H.; brother, Joseph A. Leonardi of Biddeford, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Anthony P. Leonardi Memorial Scholarship Fund, care of Merrimack College, 315 Turnpike St., North Andover, MA 01845.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 22 at 9 a.m. at St. Michael's Church in North Andover. Burial will follow in Ridgewood Cemetery in North Andover.

Arrangements are by Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen.

Agnes F. Connors
Thursday, December 20, 2001
Agnes F. (Shanley) Connors, 84, of Andover, died Tuesday, Dec. 11 at home.

Mrs. Connors was a secretary with the U.S. Forest Service in the late 1930s. In 1940, she began working in the engineering division at the Watertown Arsenal.

Born and educated in Lowell, she graduated from Lowell High School in 1933 and from Lowell Commercial College.

She lived in Washington, D.C., Lexington and Wellesley before moving to Andover in 1975, where she attended St. Augustine Church.

Members of her family include her husband of 58 years, Maurice L. Connors; son and daughter-in-law, Maurice L. Jr. and MaryFrances Connors of Holliston; daughter, Anne P. Connors of Andover; five grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex St., Andover, 01810.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 22 at 9 a.m. in St. Augustine's Church, Andover. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell.

Arrangements are by McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland St., Lowell.

Gloria Earley
Thursday, December 20, 2001
Gloria (Lind) Earley, 75, of Andover, died Saturday, Dec. 15 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.

Mrs. Earley was a homemaker.

She was born in New York City.

She lived in Bergenfield, N.J., before moving to Andover to live with her daughter. She was a member of St. John's Church in Bergenfield.

She was the widow of John Earley.

Members of her family include her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Robert Cullen and granddaughter, Tara, all of Andover and with whom she lived; and a niece.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Hospital Cancer Management Center, 70 East St., Methuen, MA 01844.

Calling hours were scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dewhirst & Conte Funeral Home, 28 Florence St., Andover.

A funeral service will be held today, Thursday, Dec. 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Andover.

Burial will be private.

Vincenzo S. Bruzzese
Thursday, December 27, 2001
Vincenzo "Vinny" S. Bruzzese, 71, of Lawrence, died Friday, Dec. 21 from complications following heart surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Mr. Bruzzese owned and operated Vincent's Hair Salon on Main Street, Andover, where he cut hair for 45 years.

He was born in Grotteria, Reggio Calabria, Italy and came to Lawrence in 1949. He apprenticed as a barber in Italy and later graduated from hairdressing school at Mansfield Academy in Boston.

Mr. Bruzzese was a member of Holy Rosary Church. He was member of the Sons of Italy, Lodge 902 and the American Legion Post 15.

He was an active member of the Massachusetts Cosmetologist Association for many years and served as current president of that Association's Greater Merrimack Valley Affiliate 15.

Family members said his entire family was his primary passion and he also enjoyed gardening.

Members of his family include his wife of 45 years, Lena (Bruzzese) Bruzzese; a son, Anthony and wife, Kathleen, Bruzzese of Windham, N.H.; daughter, Maria, and her husband, Anthony Consoli of Methuen; brothers, Joseph and Frank Bruzzese, both of Lawrence; sisters, Maria Bruzzese of Grotteria, Reggio, Calabria, Italy and Lena Bellia of Lawrence; four grandsons and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Calling hours were scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 26 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated today, Thursday, Dec. 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, Lawrence. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conecption Cemetery.

Josephine Swalwell

Josephine "Josie" (Hashem) Swalwell, 83, of Andover, died Tuesday, Dec. 18 at her home.

Born, raised and educated in Lawrence, Mrs. Swalwell worked as a waitress at local and Salisbury Beach restaurants. She moved to Andover several years ago.

Members of her family include her daughters, Marion Joseph of Lawrence and Dale Bizier of Everett, Wash.; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements were by Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen.
