Abraham S. Hacker

Abraham S. Hacker, 95, of North Andover, died Monday, Dec. 24 at Lawrence General Hospital.
Mr. Hacker was an attorney. For 50 years he practiced in Lawrence, from 1940 to 1990. He was a member of Temple Emanuel in Andover.
Born in Salem and educated in Salem schools, he graduated from Boston University. In 1929 he graduated from Northeastern University Law School.
Members of his family include his wife of 56 years, Dorothy (Close) Hacker of North Andover; son, Eliot and his wife, Barbara Hacker of Andover; daughter, Marjorie and her husband, Edward Gardner of Danvers; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial observance was scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 26 until 9 p.m. at Temple Emanuel, Andover, and today, Thursday, Dec. 27 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Friday, Dec. 28 from noon to 4 p.m. at Eliot Hacker's home.

Alice J. Lemaitre

Alice J. Lemaitre of Andover died Monday, Dec. 17 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.
Ms. Lemaitre was a registered nurse and also was a pharmacist for more than 50 years at Lawlor's Drug Store in Lawrence before she retired in 1980.
Born and educated in Lawrence, she graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Nashua, N.H., and Boston School of Pharmacy. She attended St. Monica's Church.
Members of her family include her sister, Isabelle L. Colaneri of Andover; and several nieces and nephews.
There were no calling hours. A private memorial Mass will be said at the convenience of the family. Private burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Andover.

Dorothy R. O'Neil

Dorothy R. O'Neil of Andover, died Monday, Dec. 10 at Mary Immaculate Nursing/Restorative Center in Lawrence.
She was born in Lowell and was a member of St. Augustine Church.
Members of her family include a niece, Helene Roberts and her husband William of Andover; a nephew, Laurence W. Riley of Andover; and two great-nieces.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated today, Thursday, Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, High Vale Lane, Andover.
Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Lowell.
There are no calling hours.

Rev. Dennis G. Jarry

Rev. Dennis Gerard Jarry, 59, rector of Christ Church on Central Street, died suddenly last Thursday, Dec. 27 at Backus Hospital in Norwich, Conn.
Born in Norwich, Conn., he attended Sacred Heart Elementary School in Taftville, Conn. He graduated from Saint Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, Conn. in 1962 and from Saint Mary's Seminary and University in Baltimore, Md. in 1968. He received his master's degree in sacred liturgy from Notre Dame University.
Rev. Jarry was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1968. His first assignment was at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Gales Ferry, Conn., from 1968 to 1973. He served Saint Agnes Church in Niantic, Conn. from 1973 to 1975, and was then assigned as chaplain to the students and staff of Xavier High School in Middletown, Conn., for five years. He was pastor of Saint Mary's Church in Clinton, Conn. from 1981 to 1988.
He married his wife, Barbara (Gallagher) in 1989 at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Wallingford, Conn. He was formally received as a priest in the Episcopal Church in 1992 and served as interim pastor of Saint Peter's Episcopal Church in Mount Arlington, N.J. He administered a national grants program for the American Liver Foundation and was a director for the National Self-Help Clearinghouse. He was also the state program coordinator of the New Jersey Self-Help Clearinghouse.
Rev. Jarry was rector of Saint Stephen's Church in Westborough prior to being called to serve as rector of Christ Church in Andover last November.
His unexpected death had many parishoners remembering his Andover tenure was short (13 months), but he certainly made a difference in many lives.
"The first time he spoke to us, he said, 'I have come to love you.' Everyone felt that," said Shane Crabtree of Carmel Road, who was on the search committee that hired Rev. Jarry.
She handled reference-checking and said his references were "unbelievable."
"People couldn't stop saying nice things about him," Mrs. Crabtree said.
Upon arriving in Andover last year, his first order of business was attending the church's annual holiday fair. By day's end, he knew 150 names.
"He had a great sense of humor, too. He made a huge difference here in a year," Mrs. Crabtree said.
Members of his family include his wife, Barbara (Gallagher); a brother, Gerard Jarry, Jr. and his wife Doreen of Sterling, Conn.; sisters-in-law, Patricia Boyne and Kathleen Moriarty; brother-in-law, Thomas Gallagher; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Church, 25 Central St., Andover, 01810; or the American Heart Association.
Services were held Tuesday and Wednesday.

Henry L. Hilton

Henry Lester Hilton, 87, a lifelong resident of Andover, died last Thursday, Dec. 27 at Lawrence General Hospital.
Mr. Hilton served as chief of the Andover Fire Department from 1955 to 1977. He entered the department in 1945, two years after his father retired from the force after 45 years of service, and was promoted to deputy in 1948.
Under his tenure as chief, Andover firefighters received CPR training years before the State Ambulance Law mandated it, and the town became recognized as the first in the state to use a diesel-powered fire engine.
Born in Lawrence, Mr. Hilton enlisted in the Marine Corps during World War II, serving for 40 months in the Pacific Theater as a master technical sergeant in the radar unit. After his discharge in 1945, he stayed on inactive reserve and was recalled in 1951 for one year during the Korean War.
During his career, Mr. Hilton was a member and president of the Massachusetts and Essex County fire chiefs associations. He was also a member of the International Fire Chiefs Association, New England Association of Fire Chiefs, and the Massachusetts Permanent Fireman's Association.
Mr. Hilton was a member of Andover Country Club since 1952, and served as executive secretary of the New England Golfers Association. He was active in local schools' baseball, football and hockey leagues.
He was the widower of Leona R. Hilton.
Members of his family include his daughters, Leslie E. Hilton of Andover, and Judith A. and husband Kenneth Coburn of Mesa, Ariz.; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours or funeral services.
Cremation will be in Linwood Crematory, Haverhill.

Peter P. Minicucci

Peter P. Minicucci, 86, of Andover, died Saturday, Dec. 29 at Blair House Nursing Home in Tewksbury.
Born in Lawrence, Mr. Minicucci taught plumbing at Lowell Vocational School. He was a member and Eucharistic minister of Holy Rosary Church in Lawrence, where he was also a member of the Holy Name Society.
Mr. Minicucci served in the Army during World War II.
He was the widower of Louise (Passaretti) Minicucci.
Members of his family include his daughters and their husbands, Paula and Gary Stedman of Jackson, N.J., and Carol and Peter Gianopoulos of Andover; sisters, Jenny Vittorioso of Lawrence and Lucy DiZazzo of Methuen; brothers, Carmine Minicucci of Methuen and Robert Minicucci of Millis; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
