Alice G. (Leach) Whitcomb, 84, of Andover died Sunday, June 27, at her sister's home in South Dennis.
Ms. Whitcomb was born and educated in Reading and graduated from Reading High. She had lived in Andover since 1950.
Ms. Whitcomb was a member of South Church and active in several of its groups.
Members of her family include her sisters, Edith Spaulding of South Dennis and Dorothy Lydstone of Reading; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the widow of Irving J. Whitcomb.
Calling hours are scheduled for today, Thursday, July 1, at Charles Dewhirst Edgerley & Bessom Funeral Home, 33 Pearson St., from 11 a.m. to noon.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at noon at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Cynthia T. O'Day

Cynthia T. (Batchelder) O'Day, 45, of Andover died Sunday, June 27, at home. Ms. O'Day was born in Boston.
She was a systems analyst at Bell Atlantic for 25 years.
Ms. O'Day was a member of St. Augustine Church and the Parents Guild at St. Augustine School and a class mother.
Members of her family include her husband, Robert T. O'Day of Andover; son, Sean R. O'Day, also of Andover; parents, Grace and Ralph Batchelder of Bow, N.H.; sisters, Susan Henty of Washington Crossing, Pa., and Carolyn Shallow of Oswego, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Calling hours were scheduled for Wednesday, June 30, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Burke Funeral Home, 390 North Main St.
A funeral Mass will be said today, Thursday, July 1, at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Church.

Marion Ryan

Marion (Currie) Ryan, 91, died Friday, Aug. 27.
Mrs. Ryan was born in "The Brick Row" section of Carteret, N.J. She was a graduate of Mt. St. Mary Academy in Watchung, N.J., and a member of the first graduating class of Georgian Court College in Lakewood, N.J., in 1929. Mrs. Ryan did postgraduate work at Columbia and New York universities from 1929 through the mid-1940s.
She lived in Woodbridge, N.J., for many years before she moved to Andover several years ago to live with her son and daughter-in-law.
Mrs. Ryan was a music teacher with the Carteret, N.J. public schools for 42 years before her retirement in 1970. During her school years she became a highly accomplished pianist and a featured performer in numerous school shows and recitals. While at Mount St. Mary she began her musical partnership with Jessica Dragonette, who went on to become a world renowned soprano with the Metropolitan Opera. She was often heard on radio stations in New York and New Jersey accompanying Miss Dragonette and in solo performances.
Mrs. Ryan was a parishioner of St. James R.C. Church in Woodbridge.
Members of her family include her son and daughter-in-law, William and Linda Kent Ryan of Andover; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was the widow of William J. Ryan.
A funeral from the Leon J. Gerity Funeral Home in Woodbridge, N.J., on Tuesday was followed by a Mass at St. James R.C. Church. Burial was in St. James Cemetery.
Charles F. Dewhirst Jr.

Charles F. Dewhirst Jr., 64, of Methuen and Gilford, N.H., died Wednesday, Aug. 25, at Lakes Region Hospital in Laconia, N.H., following a long illness.
Mr. Dewhirst was born in Lawrence and educated in Lawrence and Methuen schools. He graduated from Edward F. Searles High School in Methuen in 1952 and was a graduate of Tilton Preparatory School in Tilton, N.H. He attended Bates College in Maine and in 1956 graduated from New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences with a degree in funeral service.
Mr. Dewhirst owned and operated Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home in Methuen, Dewhirst Funeral Home in Laconia, Charles Dewhirst, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home in Andover, and Emmert and Dewhirst Funeral Home in Lawrence.
He was a member of Gilford Community Church, John Hancock Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Methuen, Zion Council, Princes of Jerusalem in Lawrence, Mt. Calvary Chapter, Rose Croix in Lowell, Massachusetts Consistory A.A.R.S. in Boston and Aleppo Temple A.A.N.O.M.S. of Wilmington. He was a member and past master of Tuscan Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Lawrence and a member and past Thrice Potent Master of Lawrence Lodge of Perfection.
He was a member of the Gilford Rotary Club and had served as a district director governors representative for Rotary District 7930. He had served on the Methuen Co-op Bank board of directors.
Mr. Dewhirst was awarded the 33 degree from Northern Masonic Jurisdiction Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite in 1987 for his service to the Masonic fraternity and the community.
He was the charter president of Salem/Methuen Rotary Club in 1971 and was made a Paul Harris Fellow by its members in recognition of his service to Rotary and the community.
Members of his family include his wife of 42 years, Barbara H. (Stoehrer) Dewhirst; sons, Richard C. Dewhirst of Methuen and his wife, Lynn C. Dewhirst, Alan W. Dewhirst of North Andover, Glen E. Dewhirst of Laconia, N.H., and John C. Dewhirst of Gilford, N.H.; sister, Virginia Vann of Gilford and her husband Stephen Vann; four grandchildren; one niece; one nephew; and several cousins.
He was the father of the late Amy E. Dewhirst.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Dewhirst Funeral Home in Laconia. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery in Gilford.

Matilda A. Youngman

Matilda (Tillie) A. Youngman, 71, formerly of Andover and Bradford, Seabrook Beach, N.H., and Winston-Salem, N.C., died last Tuesday at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston.
Mrs. Youngman was born in Cambridge, and was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire. She taught in the Lawrence schools until retiring in 1983.
An avid golfer and bridge player, she was a former member of the Haverhill Country Club and a current member and resident of the Boca Royale Golf and Country Club in Englewood, Fla.
Mrs. Youngman was a communicant of St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Englewood.
Members of her family include her husband of 50 years, Harry E. Youngman; four children, Richard S. of Chesterfield, N.H., Catherine A. of Wellesley Hills, Susan Donohue of Pittsburgh and Thomas M. of Andover; sister, Bernadette McCool of Haverhill; and four grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was said at St. Raphael's on Tuesday, Sept. 21.

Marguerite S. Marshall

Marguerite S. Marshall, 90, of Haverhill, died Wednesday night, Sept. 15, at Kenoza Manor Nursing Home.
Born and educated in Haverhill, she graduated from Haverhill High School in 1927.
Mrs. Marshall had been a salesperson at Mrs. Carter's Dress Shop on Richmond Street in Haverhill from 1936 to 1957.
She was the owner of Village Green Dress Shop in North Andover's Old Center from 1957 until retiring in 1976.
She lived in Andover from 1955 to 1996 and since had lived in Haverhill.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish, Haverhill.
The widow of Kenneth S. Marshall, she leaves several cousins.
A funeral Mass was said Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Church, 114 Lincoln Ave., Haverhill.
Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill.
