Emmie W. (Bishop) Penney, 92, of Plaistow, N.H., died Tuesday, Nov. 2, at Lawrence General Hospital.
Mrs. Penney was born in Bay Roberts, Newfoundland, Canada, and educated in Newfoundland schools.
The former Andover resident was a member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church in Lynnfield and enjoyed knitting, sewing and crocheting.
Members of her family include her daughters, Linda A. Berube of Plaistow and Melva D. Maccioli of Bennington, Vt., and her husband, Joseph Maccioli; sons, George Penney of Zephyr Hills, Fla., and his wife, Verlie Penney, David L. Penney of Gilmanton, N.H., and his wife, Rebecca Penney, and Edward Penney of Derry, N.H.; stepdaughters and their husbands, Ruth and Carl Murray of New Port Richey, Fla., Lorraine and Arthur Neilson of Brooksville, Fla., and Shirley and Harry Opal of Agawam; stepsons and their wives, John C. and Leika Penney of New Port Richey and the Rev. John S. and Janet Penney of Middleton; brother, Bendix Bishop of St. Johns, Newfoundland; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Penney was widow of John S. Penney.
Funeral services were held in New Life Christian Assembly of God Church in Haverhill. Burial was in West Parish Cemetery.
Mary Jo Bassilakis

Mary Jo (Woodin) Bassilakis of Andover died Tuesday, Nov. 2, in Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Mrs. Bassilakis was born in Watervliet, N.Y., and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy, N.Y.
She was employed by the Internal Revenue Service in Andover from 1985 to 1996 before she became principal and secretary/treasurer of Grey Fox Technology.
Members of her family include her husband, Constantine A. Bassilakis of Andover; sons, Harry Bassilakis of Glastonbury, Conn., and his wife, Janet Bassilakis, and Jason R. Bassilakis of Boston; daughters, Kathy Bassilakis of Alexandria, Va., and Karen Olson of Andover and her husband, Jim Olson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Betsy Bassilakis of Newington, Conn.; and five grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late Constance Bassilakis.
The funeral on Saturday from Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home in Glastonbury, Conn., was followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Augustine Church in South Glastonbury.

Dr. Ibrahim Bahrawy

Dr. Ibrahim Bahrawy of North Andover died Tuesday, Nov. 2, at home.
Dr. Bahrawy was born in Port Said, Egypt. He attended Cairo University and received his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians in London, England. He came to the United States in 1963.
Dr. Bahrawy completed his psychiatric training in Boston and was a diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
He lived and practiced psychiatry in Andover and North Andover since 1977. He was affiliated with Lawrence General Hospital, Hale Hospital and Holy Family Hospital, where he was chief of psychiatry for six years.
Dr. Bahrawy was actively involved in the Private Practice Committee of the Massachusetts Psychiatric Society. He was a member of American Medical Association, Massachusetts Medical Association, American Psychiatric Society, Massachusetts Psychiatric Society, American Academy of Clinical Psychiatry and American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry. He was a Rotarian and a member of Holy Family Men's Guild.
Members of his family include his wife of 47 years, Lisa (deSerbine) Bahrawy of North Andover; sons, Ramsey Bahrawy of North Andover and Jens Bahrawy of Sandwich and his wife, Susan Bahrawy; daughter and son-in-law, Dina and Christopher Blackburn of Ithaca, N.Y.; sister, Fawzia Bahrawy of Port Said; and three grandchildren.
Burial was in Ridgewood Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Dewhirst & Conte Funeral Home in North Andover.

Alfred J. White

Alfred J. White, 78, of Yarmouth, Maine, died Sunday, Oct. 31, at Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough.
Mr. White was born in Andover. He attended local schools where he was an all-around athlete. Mr. White graduated from St. Augustine Parochial School and attended St. John's Preparatory School in Danvers for one year.
He enlisted in the Army in 1942 while a student at Villanova University in Pennsylvania and served in the Military Police in Iceland for 27 months.
Mr. White returned to Villanova University and graduated in 1948. He lived with his family in Pennsylvania until 1952.
Mr. White moved to South Portland in 1956 where he was a pharmaceutical representative. He moved to Yarmouth in 1980 and represented giftware companies.
Mr. White was a member of South Portland Kiwanis and Elks, South Portland Quarterback Club and Yarmouth Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.
His hobbies included golf, boating, fishing and all sporting events, especially Red Riots football games.
Members of his family include his wife of 56 years, Ruth V. Maylum White of Yarmouth; sons, Jeffrey G. White of Durham, N.H., and David L. White of South Portland, Maine; daughter, Susan V. Chandler of Punta Gorda, Fla.; brothers, G. Gordon White of Cape Elizabeth and Fort Meyers, Fla., and Laurence White of Andover; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were private.
Arrangements were by Hobbs Funeral Home in South Portland, Maine.
Rita Mascott

Rita (Hayes) Mascott, 66, of 36 Lincoln Circle, died Saturday, Oct. 30, at Lawrence General Hospital.
Mrs. Mascott was born and educated in Lynn. She attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst and received a bachelor's degree in education from Boston University.
Mrs. Mascott had lived in Andover since 1970.
She was a member of Temple Emanuel, Temple Beth El of Lowell and a life member of Hadassah.
Members of her family include her husband, Robert Mascott of Andover; son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Susan Mascott of Brookline, N.H.; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Lori Baigelman of Peabody; brother, Ira Hayes of New York city; and two grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday in Temple Emanuel.
Arrangements were by Goldman-Fisher Funeral Chapel in Malden.
Condolence calls may be made at her home through Thursday evening, Nov. 11.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Dr. Michael J. Arakelian

Dr. Michael J . Arakelian, 90, of Methuen died Tuesday, Nov. 16, at the home of his sisters in Andover.
Dr. Arakelian was born and raised in Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High in 1926. He graduated from the University of Kansas Medical School during the height of the Depression and worked at St. Paul's Hospital in Chicago until 1935, and at the former Bessie Burke Hospital in Lawrence from 1935 to 1937. He began private practice in Lawrence in 1937 and moved to Methuen in 1957. The general practitioner closed his office in 1978 on his 70th birthday.
Through the years he was a school physician for the city of Lawrence and a substitute physician at Gillette Corp. in Andover.
After he retired he assisted other doctors in surgery, worked weekends at Martha's Vineyard Hospital and was the physician on staff at Broadway Nursing Home.
Dr. Arakelian was appointed to the staff at Lawrence General Hospital in 1946 and to the staff of Bon Secours, now Holy Family Hospital, in 1950. On the occasion of his 85th birthday in 1993, Lawrence General Hospital honored him as the oldest active member of the medical staff. Holy Family Hospital honored Dr. Arakelian in 1991 as the first recipient of the St. Luke's lifetime achievement award for extraordinary humanitarian, professional and community service.
At the beginning of the 20th century, his Armenian father crossed the Atlantic Ocean to America and worked for seven years to establish a home for his wife and daughter.
Dr. Arakelian was the first American-born child of his immigrant parents who had 10 children, eight girls and two boys.
Through the years he estimated he delivered 175 to 200 babies a year and put in regular 100-hour work weeks.
While working at Burke Hospital, Dr. Arakelian was reunited with a high school classmate, Helen Curtin, a former teacher working as a nurse. They were married in 1940. The couple vacationed at Eastham on Cape Cod (when it took seven hours to drive there) and traveled all over the world. They were married for 43 years when she died in 1983.
The Hippocratic Oath was his ethical guide. Dr. Arakelian was presented a Presidential Citation by Dr. Jack Evgy, president of Massachusetts Medical Society on Nov. 5. The citation reads, "In recognition of your remarkable career in medicine, distinguished by your knowledge of medical science, and your mastery in the art of human relationships."
Dr. Arakelian was a member of the medical staff of Lawrence General and Holy Family hospitals, the Aesculapian Club, Holy Family Mens Guild, Friends of Merrimack College, John Hancock Masonic Lodge in Methuen, American Medical Association, Massachusetts Medical Association, Aleppo Temple Shrine of Wilmington and the former Lawrence Street Congregational Church.
Members of his family include his sisters, Lily Arakelian, Ada Arakelian and Charlotte Eichner and her husband, Raymond Eichner, all of Andover, and Sarah Negoshian of Needham and her husband, Harry Negoshian; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Friday at Riverside Assembly of God Church in Methuen. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery in Lawrence.
Arrangements were by Charles F. Dewhirst, Edgerly & Bessom Funeral Home.
