Mary D. LaCouture, 75, of Andover died Wednesday, Jan. 26, at Lawrence General Hospital.
Ms. LaCouture was born in Natick.
She received a bachelor's degree at Regis College and a master's degree at Salem State.
She taught reading at East and West Junior High schools.
Ms. LaCouture was an Eucharistic minister at St. Augustine Church.
Members of her family include her mother, Helen LaCouture of Florida; nieces and nephews; great-nieces, nephews and cousins; and a longtime friend, Sister Georgina Smith, S.N.D.
Cremation was at Linwood Crematory.
Arrangements were by Burke Funeral Home.
A memorial Mass will be said Saturday, Feb. 5, at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex St.

Casper F. Sorenson

Casper F. Sorenson, 83, of Salem, N.H., died Saturday, Jan. 29, at Mariner Health Care in Methuen.
Mr. Sorenson was born and educated in Andover.
He moved to Salem 55 years ago.
The avid outdoorsman loved hiking, camping and gardening.
Members of his family include his wife, Mable G. Sorenson of Salem; sons, Neil F. Sorenson of Salem and his wife, Morgan Sorenson, Peter J. Sorenson, also of Salem, and Paul V. Sorenson of Manchester, N.H.; daughter and son-in-law, Cassandra A. and James Dalton of Derry, N.H.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Timothy I. Sorenson, who died in 1981.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Goundrey & Mundry Funeral Home in Salem, N.H. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Edwin M. Wright Jr.

Edwin M. Wright Jr., 72, died at home Monday, Jan. 31, following a long illness.
Mr. Wright was born in Fairfax, Vt., and educated in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He had been an Andover resident since 1968.
Mr. Wright earned the rank of sergeant major with the U.S. Marine Corps, from which he retired. He was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry during the Battle of Bunker Hill in Korea in August 1952. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in that action.
After retiring from the military, he worked in electronics distribution for several years. Later, he worked as a bartender at the Lawrence British Club. He was a stockholder at the club and later served as treasurer for 12 years.
Mr. Wright was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Lawrence; he served on many committees and also served as treasurer for many years.
He enjoyed cooking and he catered many functions for friends at the British Club and various churches in the community.
Golfing and gardening were also among his hobbies.
Mr. Wright was the widower of the late Anna Wright. He leaves daughters Patricia A. Bergeron and her husband, Donald, of Ashland, N.H., and Brenda L. Holter and her husband, Kurt A., of Methuen; son Andrew J. of Newton, N.H.; brother Gerald of Port Orange, Fla.; sisters Shirley Johnson of Inglewood, Calif., and June Cotter of Vienna, Va.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 4, at the United Methodist Church of Lawrence, 207 Haverhill St.
Burial followed in Spring Grove Cemetery, Andover.
Arrangements were by the Charles Dewhirst, Edgerly & Bessom Funeral Home, 33 Pearson St., Andover.

Leona Assid

Leona (Hall) Assid, 79, of Andover, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Lawrence General Hospital.
Mrs. Assid had worked at various local nursing homes, including the former Woodland nursing home of Methuen.
Born and educated in Lawrence, she graduated from Lawrence High in 1936. She also graduated from the nursing program at Robert Bent Brigham Hospital.
Mrs. Assid was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, Lawrence.
The widow of James Assid, she leaves son Robert J. of Derry, N.H., brother John W. Hall of Salem, N.H., sisters Alice Winters of San Bernadino, Calif., and Barbara Smith of Tallahassee, Fla.; four granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
There were no calling hours.
Arrangements are by Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen.

Jennifer E. Mararian

Jennifer E. Mararian, 20, of Lawrence, daughter of Peter Mararian and Naomi Hickey of Lawrence, died Friday, Feb. 4, at Lawrence General Hospital.
Born in Methuen and educated at Methuen High and Andover High schools, she enjoyed music and dance, and loved spending time with her godchild and friends.
Besides her parents, she leaves brothers Stephen Bourdelais of Andover and David Bourdelais of Haverhill; and one cousin.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 8 at the Farrah Funeral Home in Lawrence. Burial followed in West Parish Cemetery, Andover.
J. Maynard Austin

J. Maynard Austin, 79, of Bennington, Vt., a former town manager of Andover, died at the Centers for Living & Rehabilitation (formerly Weston Hadden Convalescent Center) in Bennington, following a long illness.
He was born in Bethel, Maine on Sept. 6, 1920 and was the son of the late Henry P. and Ava (Hibbard) Austin.
He received his education in Bethel, and was a graduate of Gould Academy, in Bethel, in the class of 1939. From 1939 until 1943, Mr. Austin attended the University of Maine at Orono, Maine and received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. He also studied special courses in Sanitary Engineering and Municipal Government.
In 1943, he began work with the Civil Engineer Corps, US Naval Reserve. At his discharge in 1946, he held the rank of lieutenant (junior grade). Mr. Austin served 18 months with the 104th and the 93rd Naval Construction Battalions in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands.
From 1946 until 1948, he was a junior engineer with Jenks and Ballou Consulting Engineers in Providence, R.I. From 1948 until 1950 he served as town engineer in Houlton, Maine, and from 1950 until 1957 was the town manager.
On Oct. 17, 1953 he married the former Carolyn Shorey in Belfast, Maine.
In 1957 he became the town manger of Williamstown, Mass., and stayed there until 1964, at which time he entered the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pa., and received an MPA from the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.
Upon graduating in 1965, Mr. Austin became the executive secretary to the board of selectmen in Sharon, a position he held until 1969.
From 1969 until 1977 he served as the town manager in Andover, and in 1978 he became the town administrator in Franklin, where he stayed until 1983.
Upon his retirement he returned to Williamstown, as the temporary town manager from May to September 1984.
Mr. Austin held professional engineering licenses in the state of Maine and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He has held several offices in both state associations, including secretary/treasurer and president, and the president of the Massachusetts Municipal Associations.
Mr. Austin was a member of the International City Managers Association. He has also served as coordinator for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Bennington. He was a member and trustee of the Second Congregational Church of Bennington and a member of the Taconic Tri-State Audubon Society, serving on the board of directors from 1986 until 1987. He was president from 1987 until 1989, and as a board member from 1989 until 1991, and treasurer from 1991 until 1992.
He was a member of the Friends of the Bennington Free Library, serving on the board of directors from 1992 until 1995, and vice president from 1992-1993, and treasurer from 1993-1994.
Mr. Austin has also been a member of the Essex County (Mass.) Solid Waste Commission, the 2000 Committee for Bennington, and the Green Mountain Club.
His other interest included gardening, camping, hiking, enjoying the outdoors.
Mr. Austin held a high sense of professionalism and integrity, and was continually involved in the communities he has resided in, his family said.
Members of his family include his wife, Carolyn; one daughter and son-in-law, Jane Austin and H. Thomas Sklebar of Millerton, N.D.; one son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Lynn Austin of Stamford, Vt.; and two grandchildren, Benjamin Austin and Alysa Austin.
He is predeceased by one brother, Charles M. Austin.
A service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. at the Second Congregational Church, Hillside Street in Bennington with the Rev. Mary Lee Clark, pastor, officiating.
There are no calling hours scheduled.
Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
