James Ruxton

James Ruxton, 92, a longtime Andover resident, died Monday, April 3 at Sunbridge Nursing Home in Lexington.
Mr. Ruxton was born in Scotland and lived most of his life in Andover. He worked for many years as a custodian for the Andover School Department. Upon retiring, he moved to Cape Cod where he lived at the Otis Air Force Base.
During World War II he served for over four years in active duty. He was in numerous battles in the Pacific including Papua, New Guinea, Luzon and the Southern Philippines. He received the Bronze Star medal and the Distinguished Unit Badge.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter and a member of the Andover Sportsman Club. He attended St. Augustine's Church.
Family members include a niece, Patricia and her husband James McCadden of Lexington; a grand-niece; a grand-nephew; a great-grand-niece; and several cousins.
He was the brother of the late Marjorie Dimlick and Mary Dolan.
A Mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 8 at 10 a.m. in St. Augustine Church. Burial will be in West Parish Cemetery. Friends may call tomorrow, Friday, from 2 to 4 p.m., and on Saturday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the Dewhirst & Conte Funeral Home, 28 Florence St., Andover.

Elwin T. Kelliher

Elwin T. Kelliher, 90, formerly of Andover and Everett, died Sunday, April 9 at Prescott House Nursing Home in North Andover.
Mr. Kelliher served for 44 years as a member of the Everett Police Department, retiring as a lieutenant. He lived in Andover for 24 years before moving to North Andover.
A member of St. Augustine Church in Andover, Mr. Kelliher was also a member of the Holy Name Society at Immaculate Conception Church in Everett, St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Theresa Church in Everett, and the Quincy Knights of Columbus.
Members of his family include his wife of 60 years, Kathleen M. (McAuliffe) Kelliher; sons and their wives Kevin and Frances Kelliher of Reading, John and Joyce Kelliher of Lynn, Colin and Adrienne Kelliher of Marblehead, and Richard and Yvette Kelliher of West Roxbury; daughter Mary and her husband Lennie Veno of Andover; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two nephews.
Arrangements were by the Dewhirst & Conte Funeral Home, 28 Florence St., Andover. A funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, April 11 in St. Augustine Church, followed by burial in Spring Grove Cemetery, Andover.

Judith L. Carleo

Judith Lynne Clevesy Carleo, 44, of Andover died Monday, April 10, at her parents' home in Andover.
Mrs. Carleo was born in Shirley, Mass., and was raised in Haverhill, where she graduated from Haverhill High, class of 1973. She received her nursing degree from Northeastern University graduating with the class of 1978.
She was employed as a registered nurse in the Mother-Infant Unit at New England Medical Center for 21 years.
She was a member of Trinity Church, Copley Square, Boston.
Members of her family include her parents, Melvin J. and Sandra R. (Jaques) Clevesy of Andover; son Robert A. Carleo III of Andover; sister Elizabeth A. Sanders of Windham, N.H.; brother Michael J. Clevesy of North Andover; maternal grandmother Yvonne G. Jaques of Atkinson, N.H.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a service to honor her life Saturday, April 15 at 4 p.m. in Trinity Church, Copley Square, Boston.
At her request, there will be no calling hours.

Theodore J. Stone

Theodore J. Stone, 88, of Andover died Tuesday, April 11 at home.
Mr. Stone was born in Saugus and raised and educated in Lynn and Brooklyn, N.Y.
He worked for several years for the New York City Transit Authority until his retirement. Before moving to Andover in 1998, he lived in Wanaque, N.J.
Members of his family include sons and daughters-in-law Theodore J. Stone Jr. and Madeline of Apollo Beach, Fla., Joseph T. and Judith Stone of Wanaque, and Timothy M. and Leslie Stone of Crozet, Va.; daughter and son-in-law Veronica and Thomas Boutureira of Andover; sister Dorothy Nelan of Medford Station, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the widower of Cecilia R. (Sullivan) Stone.
There are no calling hours. Services will be private.
Burial will be in Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes, N.J.

Burl B. Bevers

Retired Marine Corps Capt. Burl B. Bevers, 77, of Michael Way, died Thursday, April 13, at E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford.
Mr. Bevers served during World War II and the Korean War. He served as company officer with the Second Marine Division and served in Europe, the Mediterranean Sea, the Caribbean area, Newfoundland, Labrador and Greenland.
In 1956, Mr. Bevers became assistant director of marksmanship for the entire Marine Corps at Marine Corps headquarters in Washington, D.C.
He was one of the most distinguished shooters in the Marine Corps and was a shooting member, team captain and coach of several teams including the Marine Corps rifle and pistol team. He received several trophies and established many shooting records.
After retiring, Mr. Bevers taught at Woburn High as the ROTC instructor. He also owned and operated the Snack Shack Restaurant in Tewksbury.
Born in Refugio, Texas, he graduated from the University of South Carolina and received a master's degree at Tufts University.
He was a member of the Central New England Brittany Club, Greater Lowell Kennel Club, Advisory Board of the Shawsheen Valley Regional Technical School and attended Ballardvale United Church of Andover.
He leaves wife Joan A. (Conde) Bevers; mother Velma Humphrey of Three Rivers, Texas; sons Bruce of Salisbury, John of Salem, N.H., and Kevin of Lowell; brother Joseph of Georgia; sister Doris Johnson of Three Rivers; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were by the Dewhirst & Conte Funeral Home, 28 Florence St., Andover.
Funeral services were Monday at Ballardvale United Church in Andover. Burial took place in Bourne National Cemetery, Bourne.

William F. Byers Jr.

William F. "Willie" Byers Jr., 35, of Andover, died Thursday, April 13, at home.
Mr. Byers worked at RCA Corp. of Burlington for several years. In 1990, he founded and operated Merrimack Valley Construction Co. of Andover.
Born in Malden and educated in Tewksbury, he graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High in 1982.
He lived in Tewksbury most of his life, where he was a member of St. William Parish. Mr. Byers moved to Andover in 1995, where he attended St. Robert Bellarmine Parish.
He served as a referee for several local high school hockey games and tournaments. He was a member of the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce.
He was an avid sports enthusiast, and enjoyed playing ice hockey and golf.
Members of his family include his wife of nine years, Camille M. (Silverio) Byers, with whom he would have celebrated his 10th anniversary May 20; parents William F. and Katherine Byers of Tewksbury; daughter Brianna C. Byers of Andover; maternal grandmother Eleanor Coughlin of Malden; sisters Sandra M. Byers and Mary Byers Lind, both of Dracut; brothers David P. Byers and his wife, Debra, of Lowell, and James M. Byers of Tewksbury; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Arrangements were by the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury.
Funeral services were held Monday at the funeral home, followed by a Mass at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 198 Haggetts Pond Road, Andover. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery in Tewksbury.
