Isabelle D.F. Sawyer
Thursday, April 20, 2000
Isabelle Deane Fry Sawyer, 92, of Durham, N.H., died Monday, April 17 at her home, after a period of failing health.

The daughter of Thomas Wilder and Katharine Deane (Jones) Fry, she was born April 24, 1907 in Claremont, N.H., where she spent her childhood years.

She attended Stevens High School, Claremont; North Shore Country Day School, Winnetka, Ill.; National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C.; and Bryant & Stratton, in Boston.

After working for a short time at the First National Bank of Boston, she married George Frost Sawyer, of Durham, N.H. and Andover, Sept. 28, 1931.

Mr. Sawyer was later vice president of the bank, now known as Fleet/BankBoston. They lived in Andover until his retirement in 1959, when they moved to Durham. Mr. Sawyer died in 1992.

She was active in several organizations, including the Andover Home for the Aged, Lawrence General Hospital Auxiliary, the Colonial Dames of America - State of N.H., and the Durham Tuesday Afternoon Club.

Mrs. Sawyer was known "not only for her lively wit and gracious hospitality, but also for her loving and caring concern for all those who knew her. She was a collector of people, a true friend to so many," her family said.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Frost Sawyer; two sisters, Virginia Bigelow of Carpinteria, Calif., and Margaret Rogers Fry; and two brothers, Russell T. Fry of Riverton, Wyo., and Thomas E. Fry of Alton, N.H.

Members of her family include a son, George F. (Geoff) Sawyer Jr. and a daughter, Elizabeth H. (Lee) Sawyer Klaeson, both of Durham; a grandson, Arthur (Ford) Klaeson of Durham; two granddaughters; one great-granddaugher; a brother-in-law, Charles H. Sawyer of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Holderness School, Plymouth, N.H.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

The Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket, is assisting with arrangements.

Albert C. Langevin
Thursday, April 20, 2000
Albert Cardinal Langevin, 84, of Andover, died Sunday night, April 16, at Lawrence General Hospital.

Born in Worcester, the eldest of the four sons of Albert and C. Rose Langevin, he graduated from Assumption Preparatory School and College. Mr. Langevin was also a star player on the college tennis team.

He attended Boston University Medical School.

Returning to his parents' home in Lawrence, he and his brother Russell became owners of an Atlantic Gasoline Station on Broadway. During this time he married the former Edna Zaleski of Lawrence.

Mr. Langevin served in the U.S. Naval Medical Corps in the Pacific in World War II. Following the war, he was employed by Watts Regulator Co. He then became an engineer in the research and development division of the Bolta Rubber Co. for many years.

Mr. Langevin and his wife, Edna, became the owners of Powers Greeting Cards on Essex Street in Lawrence and Malden Greetings in Malden.

Members of his family include his wife of 58 years, Edna (Zaleski) Langevin; sons and daughters-in-law Albert W. and Claire Langevin, and Richard and Carol Langevin; daughters Sharon and son-in-law Jim Long and Diane O'Donohue; brothers Louis and Russell Langevin; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Calling hours were held yesterday, Wednesday, at Arthur J. Scott Funeral Home, 298 S. Broadway, Lawrence.

A graveside service will be held today, Thursday, at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Merrimack Valley.

David C. Batey
Thursday, April 20, 2000
David C. Batey, 78, of Londonderry, N.H., died Saturday, April 15, at Southern New Hampshire Regional Medical Center in Nashua, N.H., after a long illness.

Mr. Batey was born April 12, 1922 in Newton Upper Falls, Mass., the son of the late Charles and Bertha (Kempton) Batey.

Mr. Batey served in the US Air Force as a P-47 fighter pilot in the South Pacific during World War II. He graduated from Northeastern University in 1959 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.

He was an engineering manager for Raytheon Co. at the missile systems division in Andover for 37 years.

He was a member of the 58th Fighter Association and attended annual reunions. He served as the Deer Jump Reservation Warden for AVIS in Andover for several years.

He leaves his wife Doris (Girouard) Batey; son David C. Jr. of Delafield, Wis.; daughter Nancy McCarthy of Needham; stepsons Paul Dargie of Milford, N.H., and David Dargie of Lowell; stepdaughters Michelle Ferguson of Houston, Texas, and Denise Dargie of Providence, R.I.; brothers Arthur of Cortland, Ohio and Frederick of Framingham, Mass.; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held yesterday, Wednesday, April 19, at 5 p.m. at Cremation Society of New Hampshire, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, N.H.

Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of New Hampshire, an affiliate of Phaneuf Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 919 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1000, Chicago, IL 60611-1676.

Kenneth H. Rousselle
Thursday, April 27, 2000
Kenneth H. Rousselle, 76, of Andover, died Monday, April 17, at Holy Family Hospital.

Mr. Rousselle was an electrician for Manzi Electric in Lawrence for more than 50 years.

He was born in Lawrence and served in the Navy. He received the Purple Heart during World War II in the South Pacific Coral Sea Campaign. He also received the Asiatic Pacific Medal with 13 stars, American Area, American Defense, Good Conduct, Philippine Liberation and World War II Victory medals.

He attended St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Andover. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 103 in Boston.

He was the widower of Helen (Tisbert) Rousselle. Members of his family include his daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Lee Richards of North Andover; companion Elizabeth Hancock of Andover; son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Marybeth of Deerfield, N.H.; several sisters-and brothers-in-law; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were by the Hart-Wallace Funeral Home, 107 S. Broadway, Lawrence.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 25 at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Haggetts Pond Road, Andover. Burial was in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Verna Provencal
Thursday, April 27, 2000
Verna "Bunny" Provencal, 78, of 127 Haverhill St., died at home Friday, April 21, after a brief illness.

Born in Biddeford, Maine, Mrs. Provencal worked as an assembler at the former AT&T in North Andover for 25 years. She was a member of the Communication Workers of America AFL-CIO.

Mrs. Provencal was a parishioner of St. Augustine Church. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed bowling.

She was the widow of Leo P. Provencal and members of her family include her son, David and his wife Nancy of Methuen; daughter Debby and her husband Robert Stephenson of North Andover; brother Gerald Fortney of Nashua, N.H.; five grandchildren; and several cousins.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, April 25, in St. Augustine Church, followed by burial in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Caron Funeral Home, 30 Main St., North Andover.

Robert E. Beauchesne
Thursday, April 27, 2000
Robert E. Beauchesne, 69, formerly of Andover and a Bedford resident for 30 years, died Thursday, April 20, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston.

Born in Lawrence on Oct. 5, 1930, he was the son of the late Mark A. and Agnes G. (Clark) Beauchesne.

Mr. Beauchesne was raised in Andover and was a graduate of Punchard High School class of 1949.

He went on to serve in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and retired from active service in 1970 from the Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford.

He had lived in Anchorage, Alaska; Rome, N.Y.; and Andover, where he was active as a Scout Master. He was also involved in youth baseball as an umpire and youth basketball as a referee at the Hanscom Air Force Base.

Mr. Beauchesne was a retired systems supervisor for AT&T and was a member of the St. Matthew Lodge of Masons in Andover. He was also an active member of the First Church of Christ in Bedford.

Members of his family include his wife Ruth A. (Denholm); and their children Alan M. Beauchesne of Waltham, Glen R. Beauchesne of West Baldwin, Maine, and Holly J. Miller of Andover. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Heather and Kimberly Miller and Mark and Ryan Beauchesne.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 24, at the First Church of Christ Congregational in Bedford. Interment followed in the National Cemetery of Massachusetts in Bourne.

Arrangements were by Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Road, Bedford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of Christ, 25 Great Road, Bedford, MA 01730.
