Anna (Zink) White, 97, of Andover, died Tuesday, May 9 at Lawrence General Hospital.
Mrs. White owned and operated a millinery shop in Salem and also operated restaurants in the Lawrence and Andover areas. In more recent years, she operated the Cottage Farm in Andover.
She was born and educated in Maynard. She lived in Andover for the last 35 years.
She was the widow of Robert White. She leaves her dear friend and caregiver, Carol Stoddard, with whom she lived; grandsons, Charles O. Lang, Jr. of Pennsylvania and Charles Owen Lang of Georgia; and nieces, Jeanette Williamson of Florida, Ruth McDougall of Pennsylvania and Patricia Barber of South Carolina.

Alan D. Hoyt

Alan D. Hoyt, 40, of Andover, died Sunday, May 28 at home.
Born in Spain, he was educated in Andover schools and graduated from Andover High in 1977.
Mr. Hoyt was a pressman at the Boston Herald. He had also worked at the Lowell Sun and the Eagle-Tribune as a pressman. He was a member of Boston Newspaper Printing Pressman's Union 3. He was also a master electrician.
Members of his family include a daughter, Jessica L. Hoyt of Exeter, N.H.; fiancee, Judith E. Tropea of Andover; a sister, Donna Gregory of Lawrence; and a brother, Thomas P. Hoyt of Hudson, N.H.
Calling hours are today, Thursday, June 1 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, 35 Merrimack St., North Andover.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, June 2 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Michael Church, North Andover. Burial will be in St Mary Cemetery, Lawrence.

Naomi Schechter, 98, of Andover, died Thursday, May 25 at home.
She formerly lived in Deerfield Beach, Fla. and New York City.
Members of her family include daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Hy Eisenberg of Andover; grandchildren, Barry Eisenberg of North Andover, Ed Eisenberg of Warren, N.J., Eilene Giordano of Ellicott City, Md., and Richard Eisenberg of Andover; five great-grandchildren, Erin, Jillian, David, Daniel and Sarah; and a sister, Florence Cohnstein of Boca Raton, Fla.

Harriet Janice Gilcreast

Harriet Janice Gilcreast, 88, died Thursday, May 25 at Prescott House in North Andover.
Mrs. Gilcreast was born in Dover, N.H. on July 4, 1911, which is still the hottest day ever recorded in Boston. She graduated from Miss Brown's School in Dover. At 16, she entered Wheaton College (Class of '31). After attending Wheaton for two years, she transferred to the Katherine Gibbs School for secretarial training. Her first job was junior secretary to Dr. Harvey Cushing, the pioneering brain surgeon at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital (now Brigham and Women's Hospital). Following Dr. Cushing's retirement to Yale two years later, she worked for his successor, Dr. Elliott Cutler.
She married Cleveland Gilcreast in 1933 and moved to Andover in 1935. She was an active member of the South Church, the November Club and the Merrimack Valley Wheaton Club and raised three children. From approximately 1952 to 1965 she worked part-time, first as a secretary for the Andover School Department and then in the Andover Library. Around 1965 she enrolled in Harvard Extension courses and was accepted in the degree program. She received her bachelor's degree cum laude from Harvard in 1972.
She was a tireless correspondent and wrote long letters to many friends in the U.S. and Europe. She and her husband enjoyed traveling abroad, particularly later in life and they always planned their itineraries around visits to old friends and new ones. She was also a member of the Traveler's Club of Greater Lawrence.
Members of her family include three children, Betsey C. Davey of Greer, S.C., Judith W. Nowinski of Andover and Christopher Gilcreast of Denver, Colo.; her brother, G. Robert Williams of Huntington Station, N.Y.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
A burial service in Spring Grove Cemetery will be held at the family's convenience.

George H. Quesenberry

George H. Quesenberry, 79, of St. Cloud, Fla., and formerly of Andover, died Friday, May 26 in Florida.
Mr. Quesenberry worked for Reichhold Chemical in Ballardvale for 27 years and retired in 1985. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Disabled American Veterans. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the battleship Massachusetts.
Members of his family include his wife, Isabel (White) Quesenberry of St. Cloud; daughters, Barbara and her husband James Husisian of Derry, N.H. and Judy and her husband Joseph Kun of Florida; three granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held today, Thursday, June 1, at 10 a.m. at Burke Funeral Home, 390 N. Main St., Andover. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Nancy Penwell Hood

Nancy Penwell Hood, 65, of Georgetown, died at her daughter's home in Groveland after a long illness. Mrs. Hood was a retired executive assistant to the director of the IRS Center in Andover, where she worked for 30 years until retiring in 1997.
She was born in Kansas City, Mo. and moved to Andover at a young age where she attended schools and graduated from Abbott Academy. She went to Colby College and graduated from Katherine Gibbs School in Boston.
Mrs. Hood began her administrative career at the French Line on Newbury Street in Boston. While raising three children in West Boxford, she went to work at the IRS in Andover. At the IRS, she was awarded the Superior Performance Award numerous times and was the recipient of the prestigious Gallahan Award. She also resided in Andover and Methuen and was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Groveland.
Members of her family include daughter and son-in-law Susan and Jack Greeler of Groveland; son and daughter-in-law Bill and Marty Hood of Newton, N.H.; son and daughter-in-law John and Heidi Hood of North Andover and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, May 31 at St. James Episcopal Church. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, West Boxford. Eric Ruderman

Eric Ruderman, 52, of Andover, died Sunday, May 28 at Boston Medical Center, after suffering a stroke.
He was born in Lynn and raised in Wakefield. He was educated at Northeastern University, where he received a bachelor's degree. He was a veteran of the National Guard.
Mr. Ruderman owned and operated Maxwell's Furniture in Wakefield until its closing in 1988. Following the store's closing, he went back to school and received a master degree in business from Babson College. He then started a mortgage firm, Meetingplace Mortgage Inc., in Windham, N.H., which he operated until last year.
Mr. Ruderman was an active member of Temple Emanuel of Andover. He was a member of their brotherhood, served on their finance committee and volunteered as an usher during the high holidays. He served also on the board of directors for Jewish Family Services for several years.
He was also a member MVAA, a local parent group from Phillips Academy and worked actively with Merrimack Junior Theatre.
Family members include his wife, Ruth (Segall) Ruderman; children, Sarah Ruderman and Michael Ruderman; a brother, Frank Ruderman and his mother, Doris (Drell) Ruderman.
Services were held Monday, May 29 at Temple Emanuel. Burial was in Temple Emanuel Cemetery, Lawrence.

John L. Rutkowski

John L. "Jack" Rutkowski, 58, of Andover, died Friday, June 2 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, following a brief illness.
Mr. Rutkowski lived in Andover for the past 17 years.
Born and educated in Chicago, Mr. Rutkowski worked in engineering and sales for P.C.D. Inc., of Peabody for the past 15 years. He also owned Driscolls' Package Store in Andover.
Mr. Rutkowski attended St. Augustine Church for many years, serving as Eucharistic minister. He was a member of the North Shore Corvettes Club of Massachusetts and a past board member of Creative Living Inc. of Andover. A member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, which recently recognized him for outstanding achievement and leadership abilities, he also collected antique black powder firearms.
Members of his family include his wife of 38 years, Diane (Ward) Rutkowski; daughters, Shari A. Rutkowski of Salem, and Juli A. and husband Douglas C. Barron of Andover; sons, David W. Rutkowski and Jonathan T. Rutkowski, both of Andover; brothers Donald Rutkowski of Lake Tahoe, Nev. and Arnold Rutkowski of Palatine, Ill.; sisters Elaine Lies of Merritt Island, Fla., and Joan Boquist of Lake Zurich, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
