Claire R. (Oppenheim) Marum, 82, of Yarmouth and formerly of Andover, died Saturday, June 3 at home.
Mrs. Marum was born in Lawrence and graduated from Smith College and attended Radcliffe College. She received a master degree in library sciences.
She lived in Andover for several years and worked as an elementary school librarian in the 1960s.
She was a volunteer at Snow Library in Orleans and the Brewster Ladies Library. She was an avid reader and loved to travel, garden, and enjoyed various forms of fine art.
She was the widow of Hans H. Marum and family members include a son, Andrew Marum of Riverdale, N.Y.; a daughter, Deborah Pressman of East Dennis; a brother, Morton Oppenheim of Sudbury; and three grandchildren.

Ragnhild Nelson

Ragnhild (Persson) Nelson, 93, of 30 Railroad St. and one of the first residents of Andover Commons, died Saturday, May 20, at her daughter's home. She was under the care of Merrimack Valley Hospice.
Born in Halmstad, Sweden, she came to Providence, R.I. in 1927. A homemaker, she has lived in Andover since 1981. She was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Providence.
She was the widow of Arthur Nelson and members of her family include her daughters and their husbands, Janice and Stamen Zlatev of Andover and Sandra and Rodney Revers of Kempner, Texas; a sister, Signe Widell of Sweden; three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 23, with a graveside service at Rehoboth Village Cemetery in Rehoboth, Mass.
Arrangements were by the Juhlin-Pearson Funeral Home of Providence.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 15 Hayes St., Providence, R.I.; or to one's favorite charity.
Marianne Staples

Marianne (Downs) Staples, 52, of Punta Gorda., Fla., and formerly of Andover, died April 28 at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Fla.
Born in Lawrence and educated in Andover, Mrs. Staples lived more than 30 years in Andover. She worked as an emergency room secretary at Lawrence General Hospital and later at Port Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda.
The widow of Brian D. Staples, members of her family include her mother, Esther (Darling) Downs of Tuano, Tex.; a son, Christopher S.D. and his wife, Andrea Staples, of Valdosta, Ga.; a brother, Walter S. Downs III of Tuano; three grandhcildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the daughter of the late Walter S. Downs Jr. of Andover.

Barbara A. Tomlinson

Barbara A. (Curran) Tomlinson, 59, of North Andover and formerly of Andover, died Tuesday, May 30 in Bradford, N.H.
Mrs. Tomlinson was a manager for the U.S. Department of Treasury and retired in 1995 after 26 years of service.
She attended St. Augustine Church.
She was the widow of George A. Tomlinson. Members of her family include a daughter, Susan M. Bradley and her husband Brent of Newport, N.H.; a son, John W. Tomlinson and his wife Corinne of Bradford, N.H.; a brother, Walter G. Curran II of North Andover; and several nieces and nephews.

Nancy G. Fitzgerald

Nancy G. Fitzgerald, 40, of Haverhill and formerly of Andover, died Wednesday, May 31 at Hale Hospital in Haverhill.
She was a former director of an agency that helped mentally handicapped adults.
Born in Richmond, Va., she attended Richmond schools. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
Members of her family include a brother, Robert Cox of Somers, Conn.; sisters, Karen Myrick of Hickory, N.C., and Jill Olson of Georgetown; close friend Ed Fitzgerald of Haverhill; and several aunts, uncles and a nephew.

Frances E. St. Germain

Frances E. (Steffy) St. Germain, 88, died Monday, June 5, at her home in Andover.
Mrs. St. Germain was born in Providence R.I., and lived in Andover for the past 41 years.
She was a graduate of St. Xavier's Academy in Providence and received her bachelor's degree in education at Rhode Island College. She had an active and productive career as an educator in Providence and New London, Conn. From 1955 to 1975, she taught at the Shawsheen School in Andover.
She was known for her creative role in developing the sixth-grade operettas during the "Harnedy Years" at the Shawsheen School.
She was an avid traveler. She and her late husband, James J. St. Germain, traveled extensively, especially in the British Isles.
She and her husband were very involved in all the activities during the formative years at Merrimack College in the 1950s and 1960s.
Members of her family include her daughter, Katharine, wife of Carlos Heiligmann, of Andover; and several nieces and nephews.

Sandra Guertin Fee

Sandra Guertin Fee died Thursday, June 8 in her home on Nantucket after a lengthy illness. It was her 66th birthday.
Mrs. Fee was born in Lowell and raised and educated in Andover. She graduated from Lesley College and taught kindergarten in Andover. She moved to Nantucket in 1958 to teach kindergarten.
She and her husband, Henry Fee, were owners of Sandy's at Jetties Beach, Henry's Package Store and the Skipper Restaurant on Nantucket. They also owned Henry's Sandwiches, which remains one of Nantucket's longest running family-owned businesses.
Mrs. Fee considered her "blue collar roots" the key to the restaurant's success. Her influence was the inspiration for three of her four children to continue in the business by owning their own sandwich shops on Nantucket.
Mrs. Fee was an avid collegiate sports fan, especially basketball and in particular, the Boston College team. She and her husband attended many NCAA Final Four contests around the country.
In addition to her husband, members of her family include two daughters, Sydney Fee Barsanti and Barrie Fee Sanders; two sons, Matthew Fee and Andrew Fee; two granddaughters; three grandsons, all of Nantucket; and brothers, Gilbert Guertin of Andover, Barry Guertin of New Seabury, N.H., and Jay Guertin of Manchester, N.H.

Phillip A. Costello

Phillip A. Costello, 88, newspaper editor, bookstore owner, and the first librarian of the McQuade Library at Merrimack College, died Friday, June 9.
He was born in North Andover, graduated from St. John's Preparatory School in 1930 and received his bachelor of arts degree from Boston College in 1936.
A man of letters, he founded the North Andover Spectator in 1936 and hired Dorcas Curley as his editorial/sales assistant. The newspaper floundered, but the personnel move proved more successful as the newspaper couple were married in 1936. They enjoyed 57 years together until she died in 1993.
Mr. Costello spent almost his entire professional life in the book business, serving as a publisher's representative in New England, owning his own stores in Boston and Chestnut Hill, and working for Matthew Sheeghan Co. and Benziger Brothers in Boston. At age 53, he went back to school and earned a master of arts degree in library science from Simmons College. In 1965, he was hired as the librarian at Merrimack College. Mr. Costello played a major role in the construction of the McQuade Library (completed in 1967) and was instrumental in the creation of the Merrimack College Credit Union. He retired from the library in 1978.
Mr. Costello was an avid reader. He enjoyed bowling, an occasional game of golf, and making applesauce. But most of his free time was devoted to assisting Dorcas in the restoration of old houses they purchased in Andover, North Andover, Georgetown, Belmont, and Pittsfield, N.H. They also traveled extensively.
Members of his family include his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sally Costello of Rockport; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Mary Costello of North Andover; and grandchildren, Heather, Christopher, Sean and Matthew.
In addition to his wife, he was also predeceased by a son, Anthony, and a sister, Mary.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated in the Collegiate Church of Christ, Teacher, Merrimack College, on Saturday, June 17, at 10 a.m.
