Was a pastry cook in the Andover schools
Vera B. (Downs) Daly, 97, of North Andover, died Thursday, Sept. 21 at Lawrence General Hospital.
Mrs. Daly retired in 1967 from the Andover School Department, where she was a pastry cook. She was born in Bridgton, Maine.
She was a member of St. Michael's Church. She lived in Andover all her life before moving to North Andover three years ago.
She was the widow of Francis P. Daly.
Members of her family include two daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret M. and Carl E. Roth of Johnstown, Pa., and Patricia and William T. Godden of North Andover; a son, James W. Daly of North Andover, with whom she lived; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were by Burke Funeral Home, 390 N. Main St.

Was active in local groups
Florence M. (Smith) Hayes, 97, formerly a longtime resident of North Andover, died Friday, Sept. 22 at Academy Manor Nursing Home.
Born and educated in Lawrence, Mrs. Hayes was an active member of United Methodist Church and North Andover Grange.
She was the widow of Clarence C. Hayes. Members of her family include her son and daughter-in-law, Herbert and Noel Hayes of North Andover; son-in-law Jack Kenny of Danville, N.H.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Joyce Kenny.

Anthony A. Saitta

Custodian in Lawrence schools
Anthony A. Saitta, 84, formerly of Lawrence, died Friday, Sept. 22 at Academy Manor Nursing Home.
Born and educated in Lawrence, Mr. Saitta worked as a custodian in Lawrence schools for 22 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church in Lawrence, and its Holy Name Society and Legion of Mary.
Mr. Saitta served in the Army during World War II in the 75th Infantry, attaining the rank of corporal. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Queen City Chapter 2 and the Amalgamated Retirees.
He was the widower of Rose (Dire) Saitta.
Members of his family include his daughter, Carol Ann and her husband, Joseph Sholik of Methuen; a brother, Alfred Saitta of Methuen; four grandsons; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gregory T. Glover

Former resident graduated from Woburn High in 1997
Gregory T. Glover, 21, of Methuen, formerly of Andover, died Wednesday, Sept. 20 at his home. He had suffered from diabetes since the age of 5.
He was born in Winchester and educated in Methuen and Woburn and graduated from Woburn High School in 1997.
He enjoyed reading and spending time with his family and friends.
He was the son of the late Valerie J. (Bell) Glover and the grandson of the late Wallace H. and Alma Jeanne (Gregory) Bell, all of Andover. He was also the grandson of the late Gregory Glover of Woburn. Members of his family include his father, Thomas Glover and his wife, Jennifer Jenner, of Chelmsford; a sister, Caitlin Glover of Chelmsford; a brother, Travis Glover of Methuen; grandmother Helen Glover of Woburn; stepbrothers, Alex and Derek Webley of Methuen; and several aunts and uncles, including Robbin and Gregory W. Bell of Andover; and several cousins.

Jeremiah B. Cronin

Jeremiah B. "Jerry" Cronin, 78, of Andover, died Sunday, Oct. 1 at home.
Mr. Cronin was co-owner of J.J. Cronin Co. in North Reading, Londonderry, N.H., and Manchester, N.H.
He was born in Lawrence, and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1940. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps.
He was a member of St. Augustine Church, and was also a member of Star of the Sea Church in Longboat Key, Fla. He was a member of Knights of Columbus 1078, was a board director of MI Nursing Home and a member of the Men of Merrimack College.
Members of his family include his wife, Elizabeth M. (Lundy) Cronin; a daughter, Beth Miller of Portland, Ore.; two sons and daughters-in-law, John J. and Nancy Cronin, and Timothy N. and Judith Cronin, all of Andover; a brother, John J. Cronin of Andover; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were by Burke Funeral Home, 390 N. Main St.
A Mass was to be celebrated today, Thursday, Oct. 5 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Church. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery.

George N. Cox Jr.

George N. Cox Jr., 75, of Andover, died Sunday, Oct. 1 at his summer home in Hampton, N.H.
Mr. Cox owned a wholesale meat business in Methuen and Boston, until he retired.
Born in Methuen, he attended Tenney High School and Bentley College in Boston.
Members of his family include his wife of 48 years, Mavis (Twomey) Cox; three sons, George N. Cox III and his wife Mary of Louisville, Colo., Gerald Cox and his wife Cynthia Lemere of Needham, and Michael Cox of Somerville; three daughters, Susan and her husband, Gordon Whicher, of Houston, Texas, Lisa Cox of Andover, and Sara and her husband Jonathan Faulkner of Homer, Alaska; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were by John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, 122 Amesbury St., Lawrence.
A Mass was to be celebrated today, Thursday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. at St. Augustine Church. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Christine C. Forsythe

Christine C. (Burns) Forsythe, 88, a lifelong resident of Andover, died Friday, Sept. 22 at Lawrence General Hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. Forsythe was a benefactor of Andover Village Improvement Society, donating land to create Burns Reservation in the Ballardvale section of town.
After receiving a degree in physiotherapy from Nissen School of Physical Education, Mrs. Forsythe worked for many years at the Merrimack Valley Cerebral Palsy Clinic in Lawrence. She also volunteered at Andover Thrift Shop at Christ Church, where she was an active member.
She enjoyed spending time and lunching with friends and family, dancing, camping in the White Mountains and traveling.
She was the widow of George Forsythe.
Members of her family include two daughters, Carol J. Brown of California and Barbara J. Smith of Andover; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
