David S. Cronin, 39, of Bartlet Street, and formerly of Haverhill, died Monday, Nov. 6 at Hale Hospital.
He was born in Houlton, Maine, and educated in Haverhill schools. He lived in Haverhill all his life before moving to Andover in October.
Mr. Cronin worked at Career Resources Inc. of Haverhill.
Members of his family include his sister, Darlene E. Cronin of Groveland; brothers, Denis J. Cronin and James C. Cronin, both of Haverhill, and Patrick A. Cronin of New Orleans; grandmother, Hazel (Pangeburn) Carpenter of Pensacola, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Private funeral services were by the C. Frank Linnehan & Son Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill. Burial was in St. James Cemetery.
Francis C. Carroll

Francis C. Carroll, 59, of Andover, and formerly of North Andover, died Thursday, Nov. 9 at Lawrence General Hospital.
Born in Lawrence and educated in North Andover, Mr. Carroll was interested in wildlife and birds.
Members of his family include two sisters, Olivia Runge of Sandown, N.H., and Rita C. Maglione of West Newbury; two brothers, Robert J. Carroll of North Andover and William D. Carroll of Atkinson, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.
There were no calling hours.

Harriet Victoria VanAuken

Harriet Victoria VanAuken, 95, died Thursday, Nov. 9 at Academy Manor Nursing Home.
She was born in Bloomfield, N.J. and was educated in the local schools. She volunteered most of her time to helping the blind and people with disabilities.
She was the widow of Howard Charles VanAuken, and members of her family include her daughter, Joan A. Webber of Georgetown; a son, Charles H. VanAuken of Gloucester; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral arrangements were by the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home Inc.
Wellington H. Tinker

Wellington H. "Bill" Tinker of Ocala, Fla. and formerly of Andover, died Friday, Oct. 13 in Ocala.
Mr. Tinker was born in Ann Arbor, Mich., graduated from high school in Montclair, N.J., and also graduated from Springfield College in Springfield.
In 1957, Mr. Tinker moved to Andover and he assumed the position of youth services director of the Lawrence YMCA.
He served as the director of Camp Lawrence, a YMCA summer camp for boys on Lake Winnipesaukee, N.H.
Under his stewardship, the YMCA camping program expanded from two camps to eight, including Camp Nakomis for girls, two family camp programs, and international travel camps.
He retired from the YMCA in 1972 and moved to his wife's hometown of Ocala.
Members of his family include his wife of 63 years, Margaret H. Tinker; a brother, Philip B. Tinker of Ocala; a son, David W. Tinker of Alburquerque, N.M.; and one grandson.
Evangeline F. "Litza" Vardavoulis Merriam

Evangeline F. "Litza" Vardavoulis Merriam, 85, of Owls Head, Maine, died Sunday, Nov. 19 at home.
Born in Greece, Mrs. Merriam moved to Andover in 1955 with her husband, Donald E. Merriam, who served as the head of the Spanish department at Phillips Academy. He died in 1965.
Mrs. Merriam, who was fluent in seven languages, served as director of the Language Laboratory at Phillips Academy. Under her leadership, the language lab expanded many of its services.
She also taught French and modern Greek and she was an accomplished pianist.
She continued her career at Phillips Academy until 1977 when she retired and moved to Maine.
Members of her family include her son, Ion S. Vardavoulis of Owls Head; two daughters and sons-in-law, Iris A. and Frederick Beckwith of Woodbury, Conn. and Ann E. and Kelvin Bickford of Rockport, Maine; and three grandchildren.

Virginia Starke Loebel

Virginia Starke Loebel, 82, formerly of Andover, died Thursday, Nov. 15 at the home of her son in Hadley.
Mrs. Loebel was born in Milwaukee, Wis., and moved to Andover in 1958 with her husband, Harry Loebel. They later moved to Boxford.
She attended Harvard Extension Program and received a bachelor's degree from Harvard and a master's degree in guidance from Northeastern University. After completing her education, she became internship and placement director for Endicott College in Beverly.
After retirement, the couple moved to Cape Cod, where they purchased the Chatham Travel Agency and later moved to Naples, Fla., returning for summers in Enfield, N.H.
In addition to her husband, members of her family include her son and daughter-in-law, Tod and Judith Loebel of Hadley; two daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Joseph Sandulli of Ipswich, and Carol and Tom Kinzler of Darien, Conn.; a sister, June Lawry of Baltimore, Md.; two brothers, George Starke of Calistoga, Calif., and James Starke of Amherst, N.H.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Dec. 4 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Monica's Episcopal Church in Naples, Fla.

Michael V. D'Ambra

Michael V. D'Ambra, 83, died Wednesday, Nov. 22 at Academy Manor.
Mr. D'Ambra was a reporter for the Pawtucket Times of Pawtucket, R.I., prior to his retirement.
Born and educated in Providence, R.I., he also lived in Little Compton, R.I., before moving to Andover in 1996.
Members of his family include his wife, Lena (Bertozzi) of Westwood; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Michael N. and Meg D'Ambra of Cambridge, and Dr. Paul A. and Pat D'Ambra of Andover; a daughter and son-in-law, Ada M. and Dr. Steve Parrillo of Durham, N.C.; and six grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be held at a date to be announced. Arrangements were by Charles F. Dewhirst Edgerley & Bessom Funeral Home, 33 Pearson St., Andover.
Gene R. Champey

Gene R. Champey, 88, of Andover, died Friday, Nov. 24 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.
Born in Methuen and educated in Lawrence, Mr. Champey lived in Andover for the past 50 years. He owned Wayside and Maple taverns in Lawrence for more than 25 years.
Mr. Champey attended St. Augustine Church. He enjoyed watching baseball, traveling, walking, and spending time at Salisbury Beach.
He was the widower of Beatrice F. (Mahoney) Champey.
Members of his family include four sisters, Adreach "Irene" Saccuzzo of North Andover, Elizabeth Santhomas of Methuen, and Alberta Massa and Mae DeGregorio, both of Andover; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
