Malcolm A. MacDougall

Malcolm A. MacDougall, 83, of Topsfield, died Thursday, Dec. 7 at Beverly Hospital.
He was a graduate of Quincy High School and Bentley College. He worked at General Electric Co. for 40 years. During his time at GE, he worked at the jet engine division in Lynn and was the operating manager for the major appliance divisions headquartered in Detroit, Mich. for 17 years. His employment was interrupted by two years of active duty with the Sea Bees Division of the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater, mostly in New Guinea, and was honorably discharged from the Navy on Dec. 7, 1945.
During his retirement, Mr. MacDougall served as a director of the Red Cross on Cape Cod and as a trustee of the Osterville Free Library.
Members of his family include his wife of 60 years, Mildred (Elliott) MacDougall; two sons, Robert E. MacDougall and his wife, Diane of Andover and James M. MacDougall and his wife, Lisa of Ipswich; a brother, Howard MacDougall of Quincy; a sister, Jean Chinzi of Braintree; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 16 at 3 p.m. in South Church, 41 Central St.

Richard W. Abbott

Richard Warren "Bud" Abbott, 81, of Manchester, Ga., formerly of Andover, died Monday, Dec. 11 at Georgia Baptist Meriwether Hospital in Warm Springs, Ga.
Mr. Abbott was born in Andover and was a 1937 graduate of Punchard High School. He was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran, serving as a staff sergeant, engineer, and gunner in the 489th Bomb Squadron, 57th Bomb Wing in Italy. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, an Oak Leaf Cluster, and three Bronze Campaign Stars.
He was a retired airline machinist, having been employed by Northeast and Delta Airlines. In his younger years, he was an avid skier, and later enjoyed gardening, landscaping, and crossword puzzles.
He was the widower of Nancy Jones Abbott. Members of his family include a daughter, Cally Chantos of Eustis, Fla.; two sons, Richard Abbott of Lanett, Ala., and David Abbott of Sandown, N.H.; a sister, Dorothy Patterson of Andover; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Morton Levinger

Morton Levinger, 78, of Castle Heights Road, died Monday, Dec. 11 at Woodbriar of Wilmington.
He was born and educated in New York City. During World War II, he served in the Army.
Mr. Levinger moved to Massachusetts in the early 1940s and was the co-owner of Royal Jewelers.
Members of his family include his wife of 50 years, Loretta M. (Lebowitz) Levinger; a son, Michael K. Levinger of Haverhill; a daughter, Inajana Bromberg of North Andover; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are by H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes of Haverhill. Services will be held at the family's convenience.

Wilhelmina V. Thomson

Wilhelmina V. "Minnie" (Vannett) Thomson, 93, died Monday, Dec. 11 at Holy Family Hospital.
Mrs. Thomson worked for several years at Tyer Rubber Co. of Andover before retiring.
She was born and educated in Andover and lived in town all of her life.
She was a member of Christ Church. She was past grand president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Order of Scottish Clans of the United States and Canada.
She was the widow of John Thomson. Members of her family include a son, John D. Thomson of Andover; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are today, Thursday, Dec. 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Charles F. Dewhirst, Edgerley & Bessom Funeral Home, 33 Pearson St.
Funeral services are tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Mary P. (Delaney) Becotte, 79, of Lawrence and formerly of Andover, died Sunday, Dec. 17 at Academy Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Becotte retired from Tyer Rubber Co. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church.
She was the widow of Joseph W. Becotte. Family members include her sister, Helen Gaudreau of Methuen; a brother, Clarence Delaney of Aiken, S.C.; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
There were no calling hours.
A funeral service will be held today, Thursday, Dec. 21 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church.
Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery.

Richard M. Canterbury

Richard Merrill Canterbury, 59, of Old South Lane, died Saturday, Dec. 16 at New England Medical Center.
Born in Hingham, he received his bachelor's degree in history in 1963 from Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pa., and his master's degree in 1978 from the University of Maryland.
Mr. Canterbury worked in college admissions at Washington and Jefferson College, Case Western Reserve and was director of admissions at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis.
Mr. Canterbury retired as vice president in charge of college and university programs for Epsilon Data Management Co. in Burlington. He then founded Canterbury and Co. to utilize his 35 years of experience in college admissions.
He was a member of the Massachusetts Charitable Society, the National Association of College Admission Counselors, and Andover Village Improvement Society.
Members of his family include his wife of 30 years, Joan M. (Lally) Canterbury of Andover; two daughters, Cristin and her husband Alexander Bagnall of Haddon Heights, N.J., and Elizabeth Canterbury of Brookline; mother, Alma Canterbury of Westwood; and two brothers, Charles T. of Helena, Mont., and Robert B. of Boston.

Margaret Holland

Margaret "Claire" (Ford) Holland, 78, of Andover, died Monday, Dec. 18 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.
Mrs. Holland was a clerk for the Methuen Senior Citizens Center for several years.
Born and educated in Lawrence, she graduated from St. Mary's High School. She was a longtime Methuen resident before moving to Andover.
Mrs. Holland attended St. Monica's Church. She had formerly been active in Our Lady of Good Counsel Sodality at St. Monica's and their PTA.
She was the widow of Edmund G. Holland, and members of her family include three daughters, Catherine and her husband Dr. Stephen J. Milewski of Newington, Conn., Jane M. Hersey of Salem, N.H., and Claire A. and her husband Joseph A. Golden of Methuen; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were by Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated today, Thursday, Dec. 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Monica's Church. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence.
