Agnes C. Beanland Melvin

Agnes C. (Cairnie) Beanland Melvin, 80, of Andover, died Tuesday, Feb. 6 at Lawrence General Hospital.
Mrs. Melvin worked at the former Tyer Rubber Co. and Converse Rubber Co. of Andover. She later worked at Merrimack College in North Andover.
Born and educated in Andover, she lived in town all her life. She had also attended Greater Lawrence Technical School.
Mrs. Melvin was a member of Andover Haven Associates and a member of Andover Common Socialites. During World War II, she was a member of the Peace Corps in Lawrence.
She was the widow of Henry F. Beanland and M. Joseph Melvin. Members of her family include a son, John R. Beanland and daughter-in-law Janice Beanland of Andover; three grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Stephanie Pagano

Stephanie Pagano, 89, formerly of Methuen, died Saturday, Feb. 17 at Wingate Nursing Home.
Born in Italy and educated in Lawrence, Ms. Pagano attended McIntosh Business School in Lawrence. She worked at General Tire Co. and Merrimack College in North Andover, retiring in 1990.
Ms. Pagano attended St. Monica Church in Methuen.
Members of her family include her brother, Philip Pagano of Lawrence; and several nieces and nephews.

Laurie Everett Jules

Laurie Everett Jules, 76, of Simsbury, Conn., died Sunday, Feb. 25 at Hartford Hospital.
Mr. Jules was born in Lynn and grew up in West Acton. He was a 1943 graduate of Phillips Academy and a 1950 graduate of Yale University, where he majored in English. He was very active in athletics at Phillips and was a member of the Chi Psi Fraternity at Yale.
In 1993, he served as chairman of the 50th class reunion at Phillips.
He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and his unit was attached to the Marine Corps in the South Pacific.
He had a 30-year career with the Hamilton Standard Division of United Technologies Inc. of Simsbury on the space and sea systems team, which developed life support systems for NASA's Apollo mission.
Mr. Jules was also a master mason and a member of St. Mark's Lodge in Simsbury. He was a member the First Church of Christ Congregational in Simsbury and the Navy League.
Members of his family include his two daughters, Deborah Windsor Jules of Simsbury and Susan Everett Jules of New Britain, Conn.; a sister, Barbara Jules Gage of Pasadena, Calif.; and his best friend, Maria S. Honiss of Simsbury.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 3 at 11 a.m. in the First Church of Christ Congregational, 689 Hopemeadow St., Simsbury, Conn.

Diane Shuster

Diane (Greenstein) Shuster, 88, of Andover, died Friday, Feb. 23 at Coolidge Eldercare Center in Brookline after a brief illness.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Shuster lived in Mattapan and Stoughton for many years, moving to Andover 10 years ago.
Mrs. Shuster was a member of Temple Emanuel and its Sisterhood. She knitted garments for the needy, giving her goods to Hadassah and other organizations.
She was the widow of Harry Shuster.
Members of her family include a son, Marvin Shuster of Reading; a sister, Selma Keltz; and a brother, Jack Greenstein.
Arrangements were by Goldman-Fisher Funeral Chapel, 174 Ferry St., Malden.

Attley M. Nason

Attley M. (Coolidge) Nason, 88, of the Ballardvale section of Andover, died Sunday, Feb. 25 at Lawrence General Hospital.
Mrs. Nason was a registered nurse at Lawrence General Hospital until 1957.
Born in Conway, N.H., she moved to Ballardvale when she was young. She graduated from Punchard High School in 1930 and Lawrence General Hospital School of Nursing in 1934.
"Her life was one of caring and service to others," family members said.
Mrs. Nason was a member of Ballardvale Methodist Church until 1957, when she was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served as a relief society president for 15 years, and completed a yearlong mission as an ordinance worker in the Washington, D.C., temple.
She gave performances at the World's Fair and with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
She was the widow of Lewis P. Nason.
Members of her family include two sons and daughters-in-law, George L. and Audrey J. Nason of Ballardvale, and Paul W. and Sandra Nason of Haverhill; a daughter, Joyce Lee Decker of Mancos, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also guardian to Karon Coverston of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Suzanne Burgess

Attorney Suzanne (Derby) Burgess, 56, of North Andover and formerly of Andover, died Sunday, March 4 at home.
Mrs. Burgess courageously fought a two-year battle with colon cancer. She continued to play golf, attend Boston College sporting events, teach school and maintain her law practice as she fought this disease.
Born in Methuen, she attended grammar school in Methuen and was a graduate of the Buckingham, Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge. She received her bachelor's degree in French from Northwestern University, a master's degree in Spanish from Brown University, and her law degree cum laude, from the Massachusetts School of Law in Andover. She was the Outstanding Student of her graduating class and was the managing editor of the law review.
An educator for the past 24 years, she taught Spanish and French at Masconomet Regional High School in Topsfield and developed a bilingual education program for the Methuen school system. She also spent four years at the coordinator of Title VII, Project Careers program for the city of Lowell and most recently taught Spanish at Lowell High School. Outside of her teaching responsibilities, she maintained a successful family law practice in Andover.
Mrs. Burgess was a former president and owner of Blue Ribbon Realty in Andover, served as the director of the Greater Lawrence Real Estate Board, and was a past chairman of its scholarship committee.
She was an avid golfer at Indian Ridge Country Club in Andover for many years. She was an active member of the club serving on the club's advisory board, social committee and was past chairperson of the women's golf association. Her favorite event of the year was hosting the Indian Ridge Children's Christmas Party with her husband, Jordan J. Burgess, and daughter, Catherine D. Burgess of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Her long list of golf achievements included winning the Mass State Mother-Son, the State Mother-Daughter and the Club's Scotch Championship Net Division with her husband. She also has the distinction of having a hole-in-one during the club's annual pro-am tournament.
She was a member of a number of professional organizations that included the Massachusetts and National Associations for Bilingual Education, as well as the American, Massachusetts and Lawrence Bar Associations.
She was a former president and current member of The College Club of Greater Lawrence and former treasurer of the Friends of Andover Memorial Hall Library.
She also taught CCD classes and served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Augustine Church until her illness prevented that service.
In addition to her husband and daughter, members of her family include her son, Jordan J. Burgess Jr. and his wife Suzanne M. of Newton; a sister, Paula D. Sullivan; brothers-in-law and their wives, Donald F. Burgess and Paulette, and Kenneth B. Burgess and Maureen; several nieces and nephews; and one grandnephew.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, March 9 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Church. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call today, Thursday, March 8 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen.
