CARL LOEB KEMPNER '45 died September 15 in White Plains, Maine, in 1994 she was the recipient of an annual award established in her honor by the Connecticut National Bank in Bridgeport, where he worked for 34 years. He also served as treasurer of the town of Fairfield and as a member of town meeting and the board of finance. He leaves his wife, Elinor (Francis) '50, two daughters, Marcia Klein and Katherine '71, and two sons, Douglas and Prescott.
THOMAS ANDERSON FENNELL JR. '48 died September 13 in Miami. An internationally known orchid grower, he had owned his family's business, the Orchid Jungle, in Homestead. A specialist in Colombian orchids, especially cattleyas, he created many hybrids, including the rose-purple Dendrobium "Trudy Fennell," named after his wife. He was the author of Orchids for Home and Garden, and served twice as president of the South Florida state lottery and closed the business. He leaves his wife, Trudy (Hirsch), two daughters, Trudy Guest and Anita Andrews, and a son, Thomas.
RICHARD HARVEY FEINSINGER '49mcl, LL.B. '54, of Sunrise, Fla., died August 1. He was an attorney. His survivors include his wife, Sylvia.
EDWIN ARTHUR MALLOY '49, LL.B. '52, died September 5 in New York City. She leaves her husband, Simon '52, a daughter, Jeanne '81, and two brothers, Steve and Robert Fox.
DONALD CAMERON BYRON '54cl died October 3 in Concord, Mass. He ran his own real-estate firm, Donald C. Byron Properties, in Cambridge, for many years. He leaves his wife, Barbara (Cutler), two daughters, Valerie and Alison, a son, Alan, seven stepchildren, a sister, Lillian Roberts, and a brother, Richard '50; two wives, Ruth (Dean) and Mary (Pierce), predeceased him.
ROBERT IRVING GOLDMAN '54mcl died August 27 in New York Jewish community. He leaves his wife, Melva Bucksbaum, a daughter, Olexa Farrell, two sons, William and Peter Lese, and a sister, Suzanne Brown '51.
JOHN ANDREW MISKIMEN '54 died July 30 in San Rafael, Cal. He was senior vice president of a San Francisco investment banking firm before launching his own business appraisal company in San Rafael. He also served on San Rafael's planning commission and city council, and was an early advocate of open-space preservation and played a key role in setting up the downtown redevelopment program. He leaves two daughters, Debra Naughton and Ann Teagarden, and a son, John.
JACOB EVERETT BERGER '55scl, M.D. '59, died June 14, 1997, in Buffalo. A retired dermatologist and amateur inventor, he held two patents for medical devices and served on the scientific staff of the Erie County sheriff's department. He leaves his wife, Rae (Reibstein), Ph.D. '63, a daughter, Sarah, a son, Dan '89, and a sister, Barbara Davidson.
CARTER PIERCE PFAELZER '55, of Weston, Mass., died October 7. He was co-founder with his brother, Arthur '59, of Intronics Inc., specializing in the design and manufacture of functional electronic circuit modules. Earlier he spent 10 years at Raytheon Co., where he started and managed the Hybrid Microelectronics Laboratory. In addition to his brother, he leaves two daughters, Elizabeth Smith and Alison.
JOHN ANTHONY STOUT '55cl, M.A.T. '56, died September 2 in N.H. He was former president of The Ocean Terminals Co., a London-based firm promoting off-shore oil-field storage and production facilities. He leaves his second wife, Patricia, a daughter, and two stepsons.
HOYT DINSMORE WARNER '59cl died September 10 in Hartford. A professor of computer and information science at Western New England College, he founded its undergraduate computer-science degree program. He leaves his wife, Patricia (Mullen), two daughters, Julie and Catherine, a son, Brian, and a brother, Charles.
JAMES OGDEN WATT '59 died August 23 in Tamworth, Michigan Academy of Plastic Surgery, past chairman and president of the Michigan. While serving as an army surgeon in Vietnam, he found time to operate on Vietnamese children with birth defects. He leaves his wife, Maureen (Crowley), a daughter, Michelle '94, and two sons, Brian '90 and Christopher.
GAIL HEIKKINEN THIELE '61 died August 5 in Minneapolis. She was a schoolteacher in Bloomington, Minn., and also served as an instructor in SHAPE, an adult-education program in Hennepin County. She leaves a daughter, Andrea, a son, Erik, her mother, a brother, and her former husband, Charles.
REMSEN NEWBOLD WOLFF '62, of Manhattan, died August 18. He was a photographer and writer also known as Viv Blum. He leaves two daughters, Sarah and Naomi, and a unique friend, Jochem.
ALAN REED PETERSON '65, M.B.A. '70, died August 17 in Littleton, Mass. He was an airline industry consultant with the Cambridge firm of Simat, Helliesen and Eichner Inc. He served on Littleton's town planning board and was an avid horseman. He leaves his wife, Ellen (McGrath), four sisters, Martha Gouin, Elizabeth Ghaffari, Marilyn Guarino, and Nancy Crovetti, and a brother, David.
