Long Ellis, 78
Investor, tennis enthusiast; promoter of education
OSTERVILLE - Long Ellis, 78, a longtime summer resident of Osterville, died at his home yesterday after suffering a stroke.
He was the husband of Pauline Wright Ellis for 51 years.
Mr. Ellis was raised in Washington, D.C. He attended St. Alban's School in Washington and St. George School in Newport, R.I. Mr. Ellis graduated from the Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, N.J.
He attended Williams College, leaving the school in 1940 to serve in the Coast Guard on convoys in the north Atlantic. Mr. Ellis transferred to the Navy and served during World War II. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Silver Star. Mr. Ellis was a lieutenant commander in PT Boat Squadron 28 and retired from the Navy in 1945.
He graduated from Harvard Business School in 1949 and joined Long Bell Lumber Company. Mr. Ellis was an executive with the company until it was bought by the International Paper Company.
For the past 40 years he had lived in Pasadena, Calif., managing various investments and pursuing his two great loves, education and tennis.
Deeply interested in education, Mr. Ellis served on the boards of many schools, including Lawrenceville, the Polytechnic School in Pasadena, Pine Manor College in Boston and the foundation of the Naval War College in Newport, R.I.
Besides playing tennis he served on the board of the Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I. In California, he ran the Southern California Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament the past 35 years, and was a member of the board of the Southern California Tennis Association.
He also enjoyed fly fishing.
Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Pamela Ellis-Simons of Greenwich, Conn., Sally Ellis Taylor of Washington, D.C., and Pauline Ellis Ramsaur of Palo Alto, Calif.; a son, Long Ellis Jr. of Darien, Conn.; a sister, Lucia Ellis Uihlein of Lake Bluff, Ill.; and eight grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Osterville.
David A. Barrett, 70
Retired hospital CEO; active lecturer at Clark University
NORTH FALMOUTH - David Arthur Barrett, 70, former president of the Medical Center of Central Massachusetts in Worcester, died Sunday at the JML Care Center, Falmouth.
He was the husband of Elizabeth (Cooley) Barrett for more than 41 years.
il1.7i,6p9 A resident of Holden for 25 years, he moved to Falmouth in 1992.
Mr. Barrett was born in Needham and graduated from Needham High School in 1945. He received a degree in education from Boston University in 1950 and a master's degree in hospital administration from Columbia University in 1957.
A World War II Navy veteran, Mr. Barrett was a captain in the Army's Medical Service Corp during the Korean conflict.
He was the assistant director of the United Hospital Fund of New York and assistant executive director of Springfield Hospital. Mr. Barrett served as director of North Shore Hospital in Long Island, N.Y. and director of administrative services at Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va.
For 25 years he worked for the Medical Center of Central Massachusetts in Worcester, retiring as president and chief executive officer in 1992.
Mr. Barrett was president of the Massachusetts Hospital Association and served on the board of the Worcester's Girls Club. He was on the visiting committee and lectured at Clark University in Worcester.
Mr. Barrett received an honorary health and science doctorate from Central New England College.
He served for many years as director and member of the investment and executive committees of Allmerica Financial in Worcester.
Mr. Barrett enjoyed boating, fishing and golf. He also enjoyed collecting stamps.
Mr. Barrett was a member of the Pocasset Golf Club, the Landings Club, Habitat for Humanity in Savannah, Ga., and the Bethlehem Masonic Lodge in Augusta, Maine.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Barrett of Acton; a brother, Richard Bliss Barrett of Burlington, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, Falmouth.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Falmouth.
Burial will be private.

Rev. Frank Klausman, 73
Former marine engineer and pastor of Provincetown United Methodist Church
EASTHAM - Rev. Frank A. Klausman, 73, a former marine engineer and pastor of the Provincetown United Methodist Church, died Sunday at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis.
He was the husband of Emily (Speer) Klausman.
il1.7i,6p9 Mr. Klausman was born in New York, N.Y., and raised in the Bronx. He graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School in 1941, and in 1944 graduated from the New York Maritime Academy at Fort Schuyler, N.Y.
From 1944 to 1950 Mr. Klausman served with the U.S. Merchant Marine in the Atlantic.
He graduated from the New York Maritime College in 1951 with a bachelor's degree in engineering.
From 1950 to 1954 Mr. Klausman worked for the Navy as a design engineer in Washington, D.C., and in the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York. He was a design engineer for Combustion Engineering Company in Simsbury, Conn., for some time, and in 1954 he entered Drew Theological Seminary in Madison, N.J.
Mr. Klausman graduated from the seminary in 1959 and served in many churches in the New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
He served in churches in Connecticut and New York before retiring in 1973, when he started the Sexton Buuilding Maintenance Co. in Morris County, N.J. He sold the business in 1979 and moved to Eastham, where he restarted the business and operated it until 1989.
From 1979 to 1989 Mr. Klausman served as an associate minister at the Eastham Methodist Church and in Rockaway, N.J.
From 1989 until the time of death he served as pastor of the Provincetown United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Provincetown American Legion, the Universal Lodge AF & AM of Orleans, the King Hiram Lodge AF & AM of Provincetown, and the Lower Cape Rotary Club.
Mr. Klausman also was a former member and chaplain of the Orleans-Eastham Elks.
Surviving besides his wife are five daughters, Lynda D. Guest of Mount Laurel, N.J., Donna L. Jolly of Saugerties, N.Y., Kathy A. Casey of Mahopac, N.Y., Peggy M. Singlemann of Richmond, Va. and Beth E. Hurd of Burton, Ohio; three stepsons, Donald R. Dorer of Carlisle, Pa., Douglas R. Dorer of Nashville, Tenn. and David R. Dorer of Eastham; a sister, Virginia Weickum of the Bronx, N.Y.; a brother, Andrew Klausman of Houston; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He also was the stepfather of the late Darrell Dorer.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Provincetown United Methodist Church, Provincetown.

John J. Moriarty, 73
Navy veteran of two wars; retired computer analyst
SANDWICH - John J. Moriarty, 73, a retired computer analyst and a Navy veteran of two wars, died Sunday at the JML Care Center in Falmouth.
He was the husband of Marion (Breen) Moriarty.
Mr. Moriarty was born and educated in Everett. He attended the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and graduated from Boston University.
Mr. Moriarty served as a Naval aviator in the Pacific during World War II and during the Korean Conflict, and served in the Naval Reserve at South Weymouth before retiring in 1973.
Mr. Moriarty had been employed as a computer analyst by the New England Telephone & Telegraph Co. in Boston before retiring in 1984.
He lived in Newton and summered in Popponesset Beach before moving to Sandwich in 1975.
Mr. Moriarty was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a pilot and enjoyed flying as well as gardening.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, Michael J. Moriarty of Mashpee; a daughter, Patricia M. Cali of Cotuit; a sister, Dorothy LeBlanc of Venice, Fla.; and three granddaughters.

Frederick Burr Jr., 76
Worked as manufacturer's representative; veteran
EAST ORLEANS - Frederick Huntington Burr, Jr., 76, who retired to East Orleans in 1985, died Saturday at Cape Cod Hospital.
He was the husband of Yolanda S. Burr.
Mr. Hunt was born in Springfield, raised in Easthampton and graduated from Williston Academy. He was a 1943 graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
During World War II, Mr. Burr served with the 504th Parachute Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division in Europe, and was with the 7th Cavalry Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Division in Korea. He later served with the reserves, retiring in 1968 with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
In 1959, he co-founded Burr & Moynihan Associates, a manufacturers' representative company in Worcester. He remained a full partner until his retirement in 1985.
He had lived in Manchester, Conn., for many years prior to moving to Westhampton and then to East Orleans.
In Orleans, Mr. Burr was an active member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, the FISH volunteer service and the Nauset Newcomers. He also was a member of the Orleans Yacht Club.
He enjoyed cooking, gardening and golf.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Frederick H. Burr III of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; a daughter, Andrea C. Burr of Lexington; and two grandsons.
Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans.

Former food chemist; avid gardener; liked rock hunting
WEST YARMOUTH - Robert M. Long, 45, formerly of Weymouth, died at his home Saturday after a long illness.
Mr. Long was born in Milton. He was raised and educated in Weymouth, where he lived until moving to West Yarmouth 15 years ago.
He had worked as a food chemist for General Spice Co. in Malden for the past 20 years.
Mr. Long enjoyed gardening and rock hunting and was a motorcycle enthusiast.
He is survived by his father, Daniel F. Long of East Yarmouth; four brothers, Daniel F. Long Jr. of East Weymouth, Peter J. Long of Maine, Kevin P. Long and Gerald A. Long, both of West Yarmouth; and one niece, Julie E. Long of Maine.
The funeral will form at 8 a.m. tomorrow at the McDonald Funeral Home, Middle and Charles streets, East Weymouth. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, East Weymouth. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery, East Weymouth.

Active Taunton volunteer; leaves son in Harwich Port
TAUNTON - Mary (Dunn) Carroll, 90, died Friday at Morton Hospital, leaving a son in Harwich Port.
She was the wife of the late Dr. Howard B. Carroll.
Mrs. Carroll was born in Taunton and lived there all her life. She attended St. Mary's Grammar and High School and graduated from Bridgewater State College.
She taught at the Caleb Barnum School in Taunton.
Mrs. Carroll was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of Morton Hospital, the Queen's Daughters and the Segregansett Country Club.
She was a former member of the board of directors of the Taunton Visiting Nurse Association and the Boys Club Auxiliary.
Surviving are a son, Daniel B. Carroll of Harwich Port; and five grandchildren.
Services are private, and burial will be held at the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Taunton.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date at St. Mary's Church.

Raised in Rhode Island; retired Cape bookkeeper
SOUTH YARMOUTH - Pauline Marie Jeanne Jackson, 60, a retired bookkeeper, died Monday at the Cape Heritage Nursing Center, Sandwich, after a long illness.
She was the wife of Kenneth T. Jackson.
Mrs. Jackson was born in Attleboro and raised in Pawtucket, R.I., where she graduated from high school and later moved to South Yarmouth.
Mrs. Jackson earned an associate's degree in bookkeeping and went to work as a bookkeeper for Cazeault Roofing in Osterville for 14 years, retiring in 1993.
Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Robin F. Jackson-O'Daniel of Dallas and Kelly J. Jackson of Denton, Texas,; four sons, Kenneth T. Jackson Jr. of West Yarmouth, Andrew S. Jackson of South Yarmouth, James M. Jackson of South Dennis, and Randy L. Jackson of Monterey, Calif.; five brothers, Robert Paul of Central Falls, R.I., Richard Paul of Seoul, South Korea, Charles Paul of Attleboro, Haigh Kapoian of Pawtucket, R.I., and Leo Kapoian of Central Falls, R.I.; two sisters, Pearl Facteau of New York and Juliette Nolan of Rhode Island; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Gene Spagnoli, 78
Retired Daily News reporter; active in Orleans community
ORLEANS - Gene Spagnoli, 78, a retired reporter and writer for the New York Daily News, died Saturday at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the husband of Harriet Hanke Spagnoli.
il2i,6p9 Born in New York City, Mr. Spagnoli was raised on his grandparents' farm in Rockland County, N.Y. He lived in the county for most of his life, summering on the Cape since 1952 and moving to Orleans in 1983.
After graduating from New York University, Mr. Spagnoli worked for the Daily News where he covered the United Nations, the New York state legislature, and President Lyndon B. Johnson's administration. As a reporter, he traveled with many well-known people, including Richard Nixon, Robert Kennedy, Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip and Fidel Castro.
After retiring, he lectured at Fairleigh Dickinson University and served as press secretary to Mario Cuomo during his successful campaign for governor of New York.
During the past 14 years, Mr. Spagnoli served on the boards of Medicenter Five, United Way, the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, the Friends of Snow Library and the Orleans Taxpayer's Association. He drove for FISH and was a member of the Orleans Coffee Club.
As a member of the League of Women Voters, he helped the Cape Cod Times in establishing a Citizen's Election Panel and moderated the group during the 1992 campaign.
Besides his wife, Mr. Spagnoli is survived by two sons, Carl Spagnoli of Somerville and Gene Spagnoli Jr. of Renssalaer, N.Y.; two daughters, Cathy Spagnoli of Vashon Island, Wash. and Susan Pulsifer of Brunswick, Maine; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Church of the Holy Spirit in Orleans.

Doris 'Dot' Derosier, 82
Longtime summer resident of Osterville; avid painter
OSTERVILLE - Doris L. Derosier, 82, a longtime summer resident of Osterville and the oldest of the 10 Lebel children of Osterville, died Monday at Rhode Island Hospital after suffering a stroke.
"Dot" was the wife of the late Roland A. Derosier for 52 years.
Mrs. Derosier was born in Hingham and moved to Osterville in the 1920s. She graduated from Barnstable High School in 1933 and from Regis College in Weston in 1937, where she was the May Queen in her senior year.
Mrs. Derosier taught for three years at the training school in Hyannis, part of the state normal school, and married in 1940. She moved to Rumford, R.I., and lived there for 20 years. In 1960 Mrs. Derosier and her husband moved to Barrington, R.I.
Mrs. Derosier was a summer resident of Osterville for more than 50 years. She was a resident member of the Oyster Harbors Club, the Wianno Yacht Club and the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach, Calif. Mrs. Derosier also was a longtime member of the Metacomet Country Club in East Providence, R.I. She had been an active member of the Barrington Garden Club and the Young at Heart organization at St. Luke's Church in Barrington.
She was an avid painter, studying under Cape artist Vernon Coleman, and was an active member of the Cape Cod Art Association for many years.
Surviving are a son, J. David Derosier of Osterville; three brothers, John S. Lebel of Osterville, James Lebel of Mashpee and Paul T. Lebel of Marstons Mills; two sisters, Marie Aylmer of Hyannis and Margaret Crowell of Osterville; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Derosier also was the mother of the late Peter J. Derosier and Paul J. Derosier.

Charles Duggan, 72Navy veteran; former

SOUTH CHATHAM - Charles A. Duggan, 72, a longtime teacher, died at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis.
He was the husband of Helen (Barlow) Duggan.
Mr. Duggan was born in Malone, N.Y., and raised in New Britain, Conn.
He attended Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., and graduated from the University of Bridgeport and the University of Hartford.
A World War II Navy veteran, Mr. Duggan taught history and coached football and swimming in the Torrington, Conn., school system for 33 years. He retired in 1981 as assistant principal and athletic director.
Mr. Duggan also worked as a substitute teacher in Chatham from 1981 to 1995.
He was a communicant of Holy Redeemer Church in Chatham and was an avid sports fan.
Surviving besides his wife are a sister, Margaret Coughlan of Cheshire, Conn.; an aunt, Mother Virginia Duggan of Waterveliet, N.Y.; a niece and a nephew.

Stanley E. Neill, 85
Boston wool merchant; enjoyed curling, hockey
WINCHESTER - Stanley E. Neill, 85, a wool merchant who had a home in East Orleans and served in the Navy during World War II, died Monday at the Woburn Nursing Center in Woburn after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Priscilla C. (Chamberlin) Neill for 56 years.
Mr. Neill was born in Medford, attended Winchester Schools and graduated from Phillips Academy in Andover and from Dartmouth College in 1934. He also attended Harvard Business School.
He was a hockey goalie and was part of the 1934 Dartmouth College team that won the Pentagonal Ivy League Championship.
Mr. Neill was a wool merchant and owner of the E.Y Neill and Co. wool manufacturing company of Boston for more than 60 years.
He was included in the portrait, "Faces of Winchester," of the Griffin Center Portrait Expedition in Winchester.
Mr. Neill was a member of the Boston Wool Trade Association, a longtime member and senior vice president of the Winchester Cooperative Bank Board of Directors and former member of the Winchester Finance Committee.
He was president of the Winchester Country Club from 1961 to 1969, a longtime member of the Eastward Ho! Country Club in Chatham and former member of the Country Club of Naples, Fla.
Mr. Neill was a member of the Algonquin Club of Boston, past president of Seniors Golf Association and long time member of Hickery Shafts.
He was past president of the Grand National Curling Association and president and treasurer of the Boston Curling Club, and past president of Seigniory Curling Club of Montabelo, Quebec, Canada.
Mr. Neill was a member and mason of the William Parkman Masonic Lodge in Winchester.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, Stanley E. "Ted" Neill Jr. of Winchester and Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Nancy C. Johnson of Acton; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Parish of the Epiphany Church, 70 Church St., Winchester.

Charles Samko, 82
Played college basketball; retired from Norton Co.
HARWICH - Charles M. Samko, 82, a Worcester native, died Monday at his home.
He was the husband of Jane J. (Sendrowski) Samko and the late Eleanor (McEvoy) Samko.
Mr. Samko was born in Worcester where he graduated from Commerce High School and Becker Business College.
He worked at the Norton Co. for 39 years, retiring in 1975.
Mr. Samko moved to Harwich in 1975 and was a member of Holy Trinity Church there.
He also was a member of the Retired Social Club at Norton Company, the Polish Society of Cape Cod and the Islands, the Worcester Area Association of Cape Cod and the Friends of the Albro House in Harwich.
Mr. Samko was a former member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church and St. Mary's Booster Club in Worcester.
Mr. Samko played semiprofessional basketball for the Norton Co. He was inducted into the Becker College Basketball Hall of Fame and once held the Eastern States Basketball scoring record of 57 points in a game.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Joanne E. Sheperd of Worcester and Stephanie A. Beland of West Brookfield; a brother, Alphonse Samko of Worcester; two sisters, Frances Wojnarowicz of Worcester and Sister Mary Salvatore of Philadelphia; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

John S. Kolcz, 64
Taught baking science at Rutgers; liked painting
YARMOUTHPORT - John Stanley Kolcz, 64, a former teacher and baker, died yesterday at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis, after a short illness.
He was the husband of Susan E. (Cooke) Kolcz.
Mr. Kolcz was born in Poland and moved to New York City in 1949 as a teenager.
He lived in New Jersey from 1949 until moving to Wilminton, N.C., in 1986 and then to Yarmouthport in 1995.
He graduated from Rutgers Vocational Baking School and taught baking science at Rutgers for several years. Mr. Kolcz then worked for Chester Bakery in Chester, N.J., for 17 years. He worked at several other bakeries in New Jersey and North Carolina before retiring in 1992.
Besides baking Mr. Kolcz also enjoyed painting.
Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Joanne Zurek of Port Murray, N.J., Joy Spevak of Budd Lake, N.J., and Jennifer Cooper of Hackettstown, N.J.; a son, Jonathan Kolcz of Yarmouthport; two sisters, Irene Lotito of Juno Beach, Fla., and Mary Russo of Cranbury, N.J.; a stepbrother, Ted Sliwinski of East Brunswick, N.J.; two stepsisters, Diane Burke of South River, N.J., and Theresa MacEwan of Palm Springs, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Richard V. Thomson, 81
Mid-Cape bakery salesman; retired from tobacco store
SOUTH YARMOUTH - Richard V. Thomson, 81, a former bakery route salesman, died Monday at the Windsor Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.
He was the husband of Arlene M. (Fleming) Thomson.
Mr. Thomson was born in Framingham and was raised in Attleboro. He graduated from Attleboro High School and attended Bryant & Stratton Business School.
Mr. Thomson moved to South Yarmouth in 1960 from Attleboro.
He was employed by the former Cushman Bakery of Lynn as a route salesman in the Mid-Cape area for 29 years.
Mr. Thomson then worked for the former Perkins Tobacco Co. at the Cape Cod Mall in Hyannis for nine years, retiring 16 years ago.
He was an avid tennis player in his youth.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, Lawrence V. Thomson of West Yarmouth; five daughters, Joyce Nystrom of Santa Clara, Calif., Janice Sullivan of West Yarmouth, Karen A. Andre of Bristol, R.I., Debra J. Pina of South Yarmouth and Pamela M. Thomson of Yarmouthport; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Route 134, South Yarmouth, followed by burial in Woodside Cemetery, Yarmouthport.
Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Arthur T. Saich, 66
Retired NYNEX repairman; member of Natick AMVETS
FALMOUTH - Arthur T. Saich, 66, died Saturday at Falmouth Hospital of injuries he sustained when hit by a car.
He was the husband of Margaret D. (Dowd) Saich.
Mr. Saich was born in Mitchellstown, County Cork, Ireland.
He worked for NYNEX for more than 35 years as a central repairman in the Boston office.
An Air Force veteran who served in the Korean conflict, Mr. Saich was a member of the Natick AMVETS.
He also was a longtime member of St. James Parish in Wellesley.
He returned to Ireland three years ago and moved back to Falmouth several months ago.
Surviving besides his wife are three sons, John J. Saich of Boston, Kevin B. Saich of Portland, Ore., and Archie J. Saich of Natick; a daughter, Kathleen M. Costello of Ireland; a brother, John Saich of Hingham; three sisters, Joan Murphy of Ireland, Nancy Kennedy of Ireland and Bernadette Fitzpatrick of New York; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Michael A. Saich and Eleanor Saich.
Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at the common, Natick.
A funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Natick.
Charles J. 'C.J.' Deloid, 40
Wareham carpenter, Elks member; enjoyed fishing
BUZZARDS BAY - Charles J. "C.J." Deloid, 40, a Wareham native and carpenter, died at his home yesterday after a long illness.
He was the son of Barbara M. (Hanrahan) Deloid of Wareham and Albert R. Deloid of Carver.
Born in Wareham, Mr. Deloid graduated from New Bedford High School. He lived in Buzzards Bay for the past four years.
Mr. Deloid was a union carpenter for the past 15 years and a member of Local 624.
He was a past member of the Wareham Elks and was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Surviving besides his parents are two brothers, Randall S. Deloid of Plymouth and Miles J. Deloid of Buzzards Bay; two sisters, Gale Leary of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Audrey Imbruglia of Warwick, R.I.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow in the Stott, Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, Wareham.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday in St. Margaret's Church, Main Street, Buzzards Bay.
Brendan Connell, 62
Former sales manager; active volunteer on Cape
POCASSET - Brendan M. Connell, 62, a former district sales manager, died at home in Pocasset Aug. 3 of ALS-Lou Gehrig's disease.
He was the husband of Carol (Bonner) Connell.
Mr. Connell was born in Brookline. He graduated from Boston English High School and earned a degree in history and government from Boston College in 1956.
Mr. Connell was employed in systems sales by NCR in Newton for 19 years and was a district sales manager there when illness forced him to stop working in 1994.
Before that, he had been a branch sales manager for Honeywell Inc. and had worked for the Raytheon Corp.
Mr. Connell had been a part-time resident of Pocasset since 1986, and of Natick, and before that he lived in Westwood, Barrington, R.I., and, for 14 years, in Longmeadow.
He enjoyed golfing, playing tennis, skiing and boating.
After the onset of his illness, Mr. Connell became an active volunteer at Falmouth Hospital and at the Bourne Library. He also completed course work at the Institute for Learning in Retirement at Boston College.
He was a member of St. Linus Church of Natick and of St. John the Evangelist Church of Pocasset.
Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Brenda Connell Beckwith of New York City, Susan Connell McCann of Fairhaven and Carolyn Connell Eichhorn of Swampscott; two sons, Brendan Connell Jr. of New York City and David Connell of Washington, D.C.; and three granddaughters.
Burial was in New Westwood Cemetery, Westwood.
Mary Ryan Allison, 76
Longtime Harwich resident; insurance company worker
HARWICH - Mary Ryan Allison, 76, a longtime Harwich resident, died Tuesday at Pleasant Bay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Brewster, after a long illness.
She was the wife of John S. Allison Jr. and the late Charles C. Ryan.
Mrs. Allison was born in Hartford, Conn., and graduated from Buckley High School.
She married her first husband in 1940 and moved to California in 1942. Mrs. Allison returned to Connecticut in 1956, settling in Glastonbury.
She worked for the Travelers Insurance Co. for some time before moving to Harwich in 1978.
Mrs. Allison married her second husband in 1992, six years after her first husband passed away.
Surviving besides her husband are a son, Brad C. Ryan of Brewster; a daughter, Sheila E. Ryan of Provincetown; a sister, Rita Sienkewicz of Windsor Locks, Conn.; and four grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Grace Church, Chatham.
Burial will be in Island Pond Cemetery, Harwich.

Kenneth F. Haley, 76
Retired Boston salesman; veteran; past lodge master
DENNISPORT - Kenneth F. Haley, 76, a retired industrial salesman and a World War II Army veteran, died Monday at the Eagle Pond Rehabilitation and Living Center, South Dennis, after a brief illness.
He was married to Mary (Mutch) Haley for 53 years.
Mr. Haley was born in Wilmington, Del.
He lived in the Allston-Brighton section of Boston and worked for many years as a self-employed industrial salesman in Boston before retiring to Dennisport in 1987.
Mr. Haley was a former active member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 1504 in Boston and of the Allston Congregational Church.
He was past master of the Bethesda Lodge of Masons in Brighton.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Louise Boucher of Plainville and Donna Klosowski of Dennisport; a son, Greg Haley of Milford; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be private.

Barbara Ream, 79
VNA volunteer on Cape; design school graduate
HYANNISPORT - Barbara (Borden) Ream, 79, a former Red Cross volunteer and a member of several beach clubs, died at her home Sunday.
She was the wife of the late John Wrightson Ream.
Mrs. Ream was born in Greenwich, Conn., where she attended Rosemary Hall School. She graduated from Low Haywood School in Stamford, Conn., and the Parsons School of Design.
In 1954 Mrs. Ream moved from Greenwichto Hyannisport, where she had been a summer resident for four years.
She was a Red Cross volunteer during World War II and volunteered with the VNA on Cape Cod.
Mrs. Ream was a member of the Wianno Club, the Hyannisport Club, the West Beach Club, the Beach Club of Centerville, the Beach Club of Palm Beach, Fla., the Palm Beach Yacht Club, the Royal Poinciana Club, the Indian Harbor Yacht Club of Greenwich, Conn., Hortilus and the Garden Club of America.
Surviving are three sons, Robert G. Ream III of Yarmouthport, Glentworth B. Ream of Hyannis and Peter W. Ream of Manchester; a sister, Constance Borden of Hyannis; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church, Hyannisport.
Burial will be private.

Lois E. Poirier
Summered in Eastham; enjoyed her grandchildren
EASTHAM - Lois E. Poirier, a longtime summer resident of Eastham, died Sunday at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis.
Born in Windsor Locks, Conn., Mrs. Poirier lived in Ellington, Conn. for 40 years, summering in Eastham.
She worked for the Savings Bank of Rockville for 11 years and for the VNA of Vernon, Conn.
Mrs. Poirier enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and traveling.
She was a member of the Ellington Congregational Church and the Charity Court (NU)17 Amaranth of Windsor Locks, Conn.
Surviving are two daughters, Lynn Blanchard and Lee E. Foxe, both of Ellington, Conn; a sister, Carol Horton of Andover, Conn.; a brother, Lee Packer of Harwich; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today in the Ladd-Turkington Funeral Home, Vernon, Conn.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Kathlyn Quann Wilmarth, 73
Meals on wheels director; worked as secretary
HARWICH - Kathlyn "Neen" Quann Wilmarth, 73, died Sunday at Brewster Manor Nursing and Retirement Home after a long illness.
She was the wife of the late Edward Quann and Robert Wilmarth.
Mrs. Wilmarth was born in Lowell and raised and educated in Waltham.
She later moved to Norwood and to Medway in 1955, where she worked as a waitress until her first husband died in 1960. She married Robert Wilmarth in 1962, and raised her six children while working in the Medway school system.
Mrs. Wilmarth moved to Bristol, N.H., in 1978, where she continued to raise her two children from her second marriage.
She worked as a volunteer at Bristol Community Services, and later became the director of Bristol Meals on Wheels.
Mrs. Wilmarth retired in 1993 after suffering a stroke. She moved to Harwich in 1995 to live with her daughter, Janet Smith.
She became a resident of Brewster Manor Nursing and Retirement Home in February.
Her hobbies were embroidery, crocheting and reading. She enjoyed activities with her children and was an avid participant in the church and community.
Surviving besides her husband are six daughters, Susan Farrington of Dreyfus, Maine; Elizabeth Sinclair of Bristol, N.H.; Janet Smith of Harwich; Kathleen Gura of Fayetteville, N.C.; Geema (Wilmarth) Meehan of Glen Coe, Mo.; and Faith Wilmarth of Dallas; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Bristol Baptist Church, Summer Street, Bristol, N.H.
Burial will be at 4 p.m. Aug. 24 at Highland Cemetery, Highland Street, Norwood.

Richard Larsen, 67
Submarine instructor; owned fish company in Chatham
SOUTH CHATHAM - Richard N. Larsen, 67, a retired fish company owner and longtime Chatham resident, died Saturday at his home after a short illness.
He was the husband of Suzanne (Ebert) Larsen.
Mr. Larsen was born in Attleboro and raised in North Attleboro. He graduated from North Attleboro High School in 1947.
A Korean War veteran, Mr. Larsen served in the Navy for 10 years as a submarine instructor on the USS Greenling in Boston.
He moved to South Chatham in 1968 to become manager of the Chatham Fisherman's Cooperative. In 1978 Mr. Larsen became sales manager of the Point Judith Fisherman's Cooperative in Rhode Island.
He was co-owner and vice-president of Chatham Fish and Lobster Co. and retired in 1986.
Mr. Larsen was a member of the Bristol Lodge AF & AM, the Raboni Royal Arch Chapter in North Attleboro and the Brown-James-Buck VFW Post 8607 in Chatham.
He served on the Zoning Board in Chatham in 1971 and 1972.
Mr. Larsen enjoyed spending time at his camp in Maine and cooking.
Surviving besides his wife are his mother, Doris T. Larsen of North Attleboro; a daughter, Kristine Larsen of Oakland, Calif.; and a son, Bradford Larsen of San Francisco.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. tomorrow in South Chatham Community Church.

Bert Heideman, 85
Owned flooring business; native of The Netherlands
SOUTH YARMOUTH - Bert Heideman, 85, a retired hardwood floor installer, died Tuesday at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis, after a short illness.
He was the husband of the late Margaret Heideman.
Mr. Heideman was born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and moved to the United States as a young boy.
He was raised in Springfield and lived in Boston before moving to South Yarmouth in the early 1950s.
Mr. Heideman owned a floor business, installing hardwood floors in homes across the Cape.
Surviving are a sister, Betsy Lewenezuk of Wilbraham; a brother, John Heideman of Longmeadow; a close friend, Phyllis J. Brown of South Yarmouth; and several nephews.
A memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
Burial will be private.

Marjorie G. Clime, 100
Retired commercial artist; club member, officer
HYANNIS - Marjorie Gilchrist Clime, 100, a retired commercial artist, died Monday at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community - Pavilion, Hyannis.
She was the wife of Albert Hilton Clime, who died in 1972.
Mrs. Clime was born in Littleton, N.H., and raised in Holbrook. She graduated from the Massachusetts School of Art in Boston. Mrs. Clime also studied music for many years.
Mrs. Clime worked as a commercial artist in the Boston area.
She moved to Holbrook in 1907 and lived in the Abington area for many years before moving to Hyannis in 1972.
She was past president and member of the Music Club of Brockton, a former member of the Abington Women's Club and the Abington Garden Club. Mrs. Clime was also past secretary and vice president of the Republican Club of Norwell.
She enjoyed reading and watching soap operas and educational programs.
Services are private.
Annie Winsor Powers, 90
Native of England; choir member; leaves son on Cape
TAUNTON - Annie "Nan" (Molden) Winsor Powers, 90, who leaves a son in Centerville, died yesterday at Life Care of Raynham after a short illness.
She was the wife of the late Roland A. Winsor Jr. and the late George M. Powers Jr.
Mrs. Powers was born in Abingdon, England, and graduated from Taunton High School in 1925.
She was a member of the Winthrop Street Baptist Church in Taunton and a member of the church's Missionary Society and Hodges class.
Mrs. Powers was a member of the Taunton Women's Club, a former member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church of Norton choir and the Norton Singers.
She enjoyed taking art classes, studying under Pauline Sears for 25 years.
Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia P. Burden of North Attleboro; two sons, Roland A. Winsor Jr. of Boston and David Winsor of Centerville; a sister, Doris Leonard of Taunton; a brother, Herbert Molden of Taunton; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours are 4 to 8 p.m. tomorrow in the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, Taunton.
