Alice A. Cosgrove
Mrs. Alice A. (Murray) Cosgrove, 89, died September 15 at Carney Hospital.
Mrs. Cosgrove was born in Boston and spent most of her life in Milton before moving to Quincy eight years ago.
Wife of the late Joseph L. McArdle and Joseph F. Cosgrove, she is survived by a son, Joseph L. McArdle Jr. of Marshfield; a daughter, Susan M. Maffie of Quincy, two stepdaughters, Claire Ebersole of Lunenburg and Elizabeth Kelley of Wisconsin and Duncan M. Cruickshanks of Reading; two daughters, Diane C. May of Nashville, TN and Fay M. New Hampshire; a brother, Robert Cruickshanks of Weymouth; two sisters, Jean Fyfe and Mary Cruickshanks, both of Weymouth, eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held at the East Congregational Church on September 18. Funeral arrangements were made by the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home.
Donations may be sent to the East Congregational Church Scholarship Fund, 610 Adams Street, Milton, MA 02186.

Ambrose F. Reardon
Ambrose F. Reardon, 93, died September 16 at Copley at Stoughton Nursing Home.
Mr. Reardon ran a newsstand in Boston for 30 years until his retirement in 1973.
He was a member of the St. Paul Council 298 Knights of Columbus and the Milton Council 2479 Knights of Columbus.
Husband of the late Elizabeth (Sullivan) Reardon, he is survived by two sons, Paul F. Reardon of Canton and Timothy J. Reardon of California; a brother, Robert Ames of Woburn; three grandchildren, Matthew Bonsall, Daniel Bonsall and Kate Bonsall and many neices, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service was held on September 26 at the First Congregational Church in Woburn.
Funeral arrangements were made by Dolan Funeral Homes.

Alexander 'Sam' Brogna, Sports Writer
Sam Brogna
Alexander "Sam" Brogna, 86, of Milton, a retired Boston Herald sports writer and editor, died September 24 at the John Scott Nursing Home in Braintree after a lengthy illness.
Born in Boston and raised in Roslindale, he graduated from the High School of Commerce in Boston and attended Boston University. He had been a Milton resident for the past 56 years.
He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Brogna began his newspaper career in 1934 as an editorial copy boy for the Boston American. He became a reporter in May 1940 and a makeup editor in 1947. He became assistant sports editor at the Record American in 1970 and remained with the paper as it became the Boston Herald, retiring from full-time employment in 1986. He then worked part-time for the Herald as a handicapper at Suffolk Downs racetrack in East Boston.
Mr. Brogna was the only living sports writer to have covered the Boston Celtics from the organization's beginning. He also wrote for many years for the Milton Record.
He was a late member of the Baseball Writers Association, the Harness Writers Association and the Turf Writers Association. He was also an active member of American Legion Milton Post No. 114.
He was awarded the Kiwanis Special Community Recognition Award in 1996.

Mr. Brogna is survived by his wife, Lelia J. (Jackson) Brogna; two sons, Dennis P. Brogna of S.C., and Paul A. Brogna of Duxbury; three sisters, Virginia Cataldo of Dedham, Louise Hughes of Norwood and Margaret Mahoney of Foxboro; one stepsister, Janette Eckhardt of Florida, and three grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Robert P. Weisse.
Funeral services were held at Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home on September 28. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.

Walter F. White
Walter F. White, 68, of Dorchester, died September 18 at Carney Hospital in Dorchester.
Mr. White was the owner of Deveney and White Monument Company for 38 years before retiring in 1993. He was the author of the book, "Sons of Abraham."
He was born and raised in Weymouth and graduated from Weymouth High School in 1952.
Mr. White was president of the Boston Chapter of Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship and a member of AIM International business group.
He is survived by his wife, Genevieve M. (Deveney) White; one son, Timothy White of Harwich; two daughters, Geralyn White of Dorchester and Maryalice Sullivan of South Boston; and two brothers, Edward White of Maine. He was the uncle and guardian of George Deveney of Dorchester and father of the late Laurence White.
A funeral service was held September 21 at Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home. Burial was in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.

Paul H. McGillvray
Paul H. McGillvray, 84, of Randolph, died September 18 at South Shore Hospital.
Mr. McGillvray was a World War II veteran. He served in the Army in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He worked as a ship fitter at the Boston Naval Shipyard for 32 years.
Husband of the late Ruth B. (Thorley) McGillvray, he is survived by three brothers, Robert L. McGillvray of Weymouth, Walter F. McGillvray of Seattle, and James E. McGillvray of Canton; and three sisters, Helen V. Zarella of Scituate, Mary A. O'Donnell of Quincy and Margaret G. Greene of Halifax.
A funeral Mass was celebrated September 21 at St. Mary's Church, Randolph. Burial was in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
Funeral arrangements were made by Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home.

Joseph A. Barone
Joseph A. Barone, 75, died on September 30.
Mr. Barone was a lifelong resident of Milton. He owned and operated Joe's Barber Shop on Central Ave. for 50 years.
He was a Member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #180, Lower Mills, the Holy Name of the North End, and Sons of Italy, Quincy.
He was an Eucharistic Minister at Carney Hospital.
Mr. Barone is survived by his wife, Mary R. "Norma" (McAllister) Barone; nine daughters, Marguerite Badger, Mary Barone, Paula Barone, Elizabeth Barone, Andrea Barone, Margaret Barone, Norma Barone, Jean Barone and Patricia Barone; four sons, Joseph Barone Jr., Andrew Barone, Joseph A. Barone and James Barone; three brothers, Alfred, Anthony and Richard Baroni; a sister, Michelina Femino; four grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on October 4 at St. Gregory Church in Dorchester. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were made by Dolan Funeral Homes.
