John J. Riordan
John J. Riordan, 84, died Saturday, Feb. 1, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Killorglin, County Kerry, Ireland, he came to Boston at age 11, in 1929.
He was a graduate of Hyde Park High School, class of 1939. He has lived in Milton since 1947.
Mr. Riordan was a Navy Veteran of World War II serving on a submarine chaser in the Caribbean. He worked for the MBTA for over 33 years before retiring in 1980. He was a member of Local # 589 MBTA.
Mr. Riordan was active in St Agatha’s Church as a member of the Ushers Club and as a Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the St. Agatha’s Nocturnal Adoration Society. He was also active in Holy Family Church in Rockland and a member of the Irish Cultural Center.
He was a golf champion and had coached for the Milton Little League and Babe Ruth League.
Mr. Riordan is survived by his wife, Mary F. (Concannon) Riordan; four sons, John J. Riordan Jr. of Nashua, NH, Thomas P. Riordan of Milton, Edward T. Riordan of Wayne, PA, Dennis M. Riordan of Quincy; three daughters, Margaret M. Riordan of Milton, Kathleen T. Riordan of Quincy, and Maryanne S. Ridge of Hanover, and 13 grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on February 4 at St. Agatha Church. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.

Thomas F. Carroll
Thomas F. Carroll, 76, of Kingston, died Februaary 1 at home.
Mr. Carroll grew up in Jamaica Plain. He graduated from English High School and Northeastern Universty School of Business. He lived in Braintree for 30 years before moving to Kingston six years ago.
He was a sergeant and gun crewman in the 307th Field Artillery Battalion, 78th Division.
Mr. Carroll worked as a salesman for Whitehall Liquors for 35 years.
He was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1702.
Husband of the late Ruth E. (Oman) Carroll, he is survived by a daughter, Jane E. Smeloff of Kingston; three sisters, M. Virginia Herrity of Popponesset and Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Ricardo J. Salabarria
Ricardo J. Salabarria, 35, of Milton, died February 9 in a fire on Quarry Lane.
Born in Chelsea, he was raised and educated in Milton.
He was a member of the Laborers International Union of North America.
He is survived by his daughter, Lauren Begen; his father, Joseph J. Salabarria of Weymouth; a brother, Joseph D. Salabarria of Brockton; and three sisters, Lisa K. Alexander of Brockton, Patrice I. Duvall of Needham and Jessica Bergen-Salabarria of Lincoln.
A funeral Mass was celebrated February 13 at St. Agatha Church.

Florence B. O’Brien
Florence B. (Danehy) O’Brien, 78, of Dorchester, died on February 11 at Marian Manor after a long illness.
Born in Boston, she was a lifelong Dorchester resident and a graduate of Dorchester High School, class of 1942.
Mrs. O’Brien was a telephone operator for New England Telephone and Telegraph and the Sheraton Corporation corporate office before her retirement in the late 1970s.
Wife of the late Edward J. O’Brien Jr., she is survived by two brothers, Cornelius Danehy and his wife, Louise, of Quincy, and Walter Danehy of Milton; a sister, Cecelia Galvin of Boston, and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was the sister of the late Margaret Devonshire, Dorothy Kilroy and Rev. Paul Danehy.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Mark’s Church, Dorchester on February 15. Burial was in Blue Hill Cemetery.

Ralph F. Clougherty
Ralph F. Clougherty, 86, of Milton died February 1 at home after a long illness.
Born in South Boston, he lived there until moving to Milton 28 years ago. He attended Boston schools.
He was a sergeant head in Headquarters Company, Battalion 353rd Infantry in Italy, France and Germany during World War II.
Mr. Clougherty was assistant clerk magistrate of the South Boston District Trial Court for 39 years. He retired in 1991.
He was a former member of the South Boston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6536 and Martin McDonough Post, American Legion, in South Boston.
He is survived by his wife, Mary T. (Connolly) Clougherty; two sons, Thomas M. Clougherty of Boston and Stephen J. Clougherty of Quincy; two daughters, Maureen Wyckoff of Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

A. Herbert Bruce
A. Herbert Bruce, 99, died February 20 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home in Canton, North Carolina; a sister, Doris Zentgraf of Lexington; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held March 8 at Grace Episcopal Church in the Mountains in Waynesville, NC 28786.
Elizabeth May Morris
Elizabeth May (Chesley) Morris died at her home on February 18 after a lengthy illness.
Born in Boston, she was a graduate of Girls High School in Roxbury. She was employed for a short time at United Drug of Boston.
She was a 64-year resident of Milton.
Wife of the late Michael J. Morris, she is survived by two sons, Robert A. Morris of Milton and Richard S. Morris of Braintree; a daughter, Virginia M. Leavey of Weymouth; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Idella Herman.
A funeral service was held at Dolan Funeral Home on February 22. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.

Albert E. Hogan
Albert E. Hogan, 74, formerly of Milton, died suddenly on February 23.
Born in Boston, he was a graduate of Boston Public Schools.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Hogan worked as an antenna installer for the Jordan Marsh Company of Boston prior to joining the Public Works Highway Department for the City of Boston in 1958. He was working for the city as an inspector in the highway department at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa (Brewster) Hogan; three daughters, Claire Arizona, Joan Hogan of Dorchester and Mary Ann Hogan of Quincy; three brothers, Joseph Hoar of Falmouth, John Hoar of Dorchester and Frederick Hoar of Quincy; two sisters, Katherine McGrady of Weymouth and Mary Auld of Boston; and three grandchildren. He was also the father of the late Theresa "Terry" Hogan.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Gregory’s Church, Dorchester on February 28. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.

Ruth C. Ashley
Ruth (Coleman) Ashley, 73, of Westford, died at the Boston Medical Center on Tuesday after a long illness.
Born in Boston, she grew up in Milton and graduated from Milton High School and Lowell State Teachers College. She later received a Masters Degree from Boston University.
Mrs. Ashley taught music in the Easton School system for many years. She then became a professor at University of Massachusetts Lowell, Office of University Advancement, 600 Suffolk Street, Lowell, MA 01854.
Genevieve Bartolani
Genevieve A. (O’Brien) Bartolani, 74, died on February 26 at Milton Hospital.
Born in Milton, she graduated from St. Gregory’s High School, Dorchester. She has been a resident of Milton for 30 years.
She was a longtime parishioner of St. Agatha Church and a former volunteer at St. Angela’s Church, Mattapan, and former member of St. Gregory’s Ladies Sodality.
She is survived be her husband Charles C. Bartolani; a son, Charles J. Bartolani Esq. of Milton; two daughters, Mary V. Pennsylvania and Catherine A. Bartolani of Quincy; and six grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on March 1 at St. Agatha’s Church. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.
