Elena C. Roman
Elena C. (Ponti) Roman, 94, of Hyde Park and Wellesley, a homemaker, died January 5, 2004 at the Elizabeth Seton Residences in Wellesley.
Mrs. Roman was born in Samarate, Italy and resided in Hyde Park for 23 years. She was also a former resident of Roxbury.
She was a former member of the Catholic Foresters of America, the Dennison House and the TWL Club at St. Patrick Church in Roxbury.
Wife of the late George J. Roman, she is survived by two daughters, Norma E. Mercuri of Avon and Carol A. Poles of Hyde Park; a son, George A. Roman of Wellesley; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was the grandmother of the late Michael A. Poles.
A funeral Mass was celebrated January 8 in St. Pius X Church. Burial was held in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Roslindale.
Donations may be made to Elizabeth Seton Residence, 125 Oakland Street, Wellesley, MA 02181.
Funeral arrangements were made by Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home.

Annabelle Mullen
Annabelle (Perro) Mullen, formerly of North Quincy, died January 11, 2004.
She was born in Nova Scotia and relocated to Boston in 1935, where she resided in North Quincy since 1948.
Her family were former owners of Mullen’s Mobil Station in East Milton.
Wife of the late Charles Mullen, she is survived by a daughter, J. Lorraine Brown of Franklin; three sons, Donald Mullen of Hamilton, Gary Mullen of Norwood and Glen Mullen of Quincy; two sisters, Sr. Theresa Perro of Nova Scotia and Eileen Scott of Alberta; a brother, Joseph Perro of Nova Scotia; also seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated January 15 at Saint Agatha Church. Burial was held in Blue Hill Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements were made by Dolan Funeral Home.

Carlyle T. Hill
Carlyle T. Hill, 86, of Quincy, a retired quality assurance engineer, died January 9, 2004 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.
He was born in Portland, Stone & Webber Company in Boston in 1986 after 15 years.
He had formerly been an assistant hull superintendent at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn V. (Campbell) Hill; four daughters, Priscilla "Chris" Jordan and Rosemary Bailey, both of South Boston, and Gail F. Howie and Daryl M. Lacey, both of Braintree; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held January 13 at Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home.
Donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 29 Crafts Street, Newton, MA 02158.
Arrangements were made by Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home.

John A. Kennedy
John A. Kennedy, 96, of Milton died January 15, 2004 at home.
Born in Springfield. He graduated from Cathedral High School and attended Fordham University. A contractor and consulting engineer, he supervised and consulted on building projects in the Boston area, Indiana and Cairo, Egypt. He was a member of the Local No. 3 Craftsmen for over 75 years.
Husband of the late Gertrude (Smith) Kennedy, he is survived by his daughters Judith E. Kennedy of Milton, Jane M. Ragab of Stoughton, and Joyce A. Croke of Randolph, He was also the father of the late John A. Kennedy, Jr. of Stoughton. He is the grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Pius X Church in Milton. Burial was in the Milton Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Springfield Boys and Girls Club, 100 Acorn Street, Springfield, MA 01109.

Edward F. McGilvery
Edward F. McGilvery, 84, a decorated Marine Corps veteran of WWII, died Jan. 7, 2004.
Born in Boston and raised in Dorchester, he attended St. Ann’s School, Boston English High School and Boston College High School. He graduated from Boston College in 1943.
Mr. McGilvery was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he received a Silver Star (for bravery) and Purple Heart (for injuries received). He was honorably discharged after 14 months of recuperation from his injuries.
Mr. McGilvery retired in 1982 after 37 years as a salesman for the former H. J. Dowd Paper Company in Cambridge. He was active in St. Mary’s Church in West Quincy, until his family moved to Milton in 1967.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen P. (Otis) McGilvery; a daughter, Judith A. Barnstead of Concord; a son, Ted McGilvery of Milton; and six grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated January 10 at St. Elizabeth Church. Burial was held in Milton Cemetery.
Donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
Funeral arrangements were made by Dolan Funeral Home.

Jeannette A. Scherer
Jeannette A. (Dyott) Scherer, 76, the co-owner of a ceramics shop and a former school cafeteria worker in Milton, died January 3, 2004 at Milton Hospital.
Born in Chicago and raised in New Hampshire, Stephen G. Scherer of Rhode Island, Kevin A. Scherer of Dorchester, Gerald P. Scherer of Hopedale and Phillip S. Scherer and Jason J. Scherer of Milton; a brother, Alfred Dyott Jr. of West Roxbury; a sister, Beverly Miller of Alaska; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A funeral Mass was held January 7 at St. Mary of the Hills Church. Burial was held in Milton Cemetery.
Donations may be made to Milton Hospital, Development Office, 92 Highland Street, Milton, MA 02186.

Eleanor M. Huban
Eleanor M. "Snooky" (Sheehan) Huban, of Florida.
Mrs. Huban was born in Brookline and was educated in the Brookline Public School system. She graduated from Brookline High School. She moved to Milton in 1948 and resided there until moving to Port Charlotte, Florida; three sisters, Arline McDonald of Westwood, Ann Chambers of Norwood, and Jean Alba of California; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was held January 10 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. Burial was held in Milton Cemetery.
Donations may be made to either The American Heart Association, P.O. Box 42150, St. Petersburg, FL 33742 or to the charity of your choice.

Emily G. Leavey
Emily G. (Green) Leavey, 92, of Randolph, a homemaker and former telephone operator, died January 4, 2004 at home.
Born in Boston, she resided in Mattapan for many years before moving to Randolph 30 years ago.
Mrs. Leavey worked for New England Telephone for 20 years.
Wife of the late Walter J. Leavey and mother of the late Arthur H. Leavey, she is survived by two daughters, Lillian Ann Arsenault of Randolph and Mary Lou Storella of Quincy; four sons, William J. Leavey and Kenneth C. Leavey of Randolph, Walter F. Leavey of Weymouth, and Joseph A. Leavey of Plympton; 15 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated January 7 at St. Michael’s Church in Avon. Burial was held in Fairview Cemetery in Hyde Park.
Donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 275 Turnpike Street, Canton MA 02021.
Funeral arrangements were made by Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home.

Josephine E. Blanke
Josephine E. (Mangio) Blanke, 96, a former seamstress and manager of Nature Foods in Cambridge, died January 2, 2004 at home.
Born in Boston, she resided in Jamaica Plain and Dorchester before moving to Milton 35 years ago.
Mrs. Blanke worked as a seamstress in Boston’s garment industry for 15 years and worked in the mail order division of Nature Foods for 10 years. She retired in 1972.
Wife of the late Frank Blanke, she is survived by her daughter, Doris M. Antoniewicz of Milton; a brother, Leo Mangio of Dorchester; a sister, Pauline Adie of Medway; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held January 6 at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home. Burial was held in Milton Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Hospice of the South Shore, 100 Bay State Drive, Braintree, MA 02185.

Jeanne E. Curry
Jeanne E. Curry, a professional community organizer and volunteer, died January 20, 2004 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston after a seven-month struggle with cancer.

Gunborg E. Wifholm
Gunborg E. (VonMunck) Wifholm, of Plymouth, formerly of Milton, died January 19, 2004 at the Harbor House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hingham after a lengthy illness.

Margaret C. Feeney
Margaret C. (McDonagh) Feeney, 86 , of Quincy, a former payroll supervisor, died January 13, 2004 at Quincy Medical Center.

John F. O’Hara
John F. O’Hara, 82, formerly of Hyde Park and Milton, died at his home in Wakefield, New Hampshire on January 17, 2004. He resided in Wakefield for the past 7 years. He was born in Boston.

James H. Bonney
James H. Bonney, 87, retired chief radio engineer for radio station WBUR, WWII veteran, died January 14, 2004 at Carney Hospital in Dorchester.
