FITCHBURG - Dorothy C. (Minahan) Keating, 93, formerly of 2 Girard Dr., died Thursday, July 10, 2003, in Hillcrest Nursing Home after a long illness.
Wetherby, Was wendell Selectman
NEW SALEM - Charles M. Wetherby, 80, of 36 North Main St., died Saturday, July 12, 2003 following an illness.
Born on April 27, 1923 in Wendell, he was a son of Pliny and Edith (Taylor) Wetherby and grew up there.
He enlisted in the United States Navy on April 26, 1943 serving on the USS Bataan during World War II as an Aviation Machinist Mate. He was in the Asiatic and South Pacific Theatres and was honorably discharged from the Navy on April 16, 1947.
Following his duty of service, he had worked at the Rodney Calif., a maker of periscopes, after 25 years after which he ran his own handyman business in the Concord area. In 1992, he returned to this area from Calif.; several nephews and nieces; and a companion of many years, Althea Gilmore of New Salem.
He was predeceased by brothers, George, Louie, Francis, Leon, Clarence, and Merrill as well as two sisters, Gladys Broulett and Dottie Compton.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 19, in South Cemetery, Orange, at 10 a.m.

ATHOL - Doris W. (Warren) Maden, 95, formerly of 9 Shrine Ave., West Boylston and of Athol, died on Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at the Athol Memorial Hospital.
Her husband, Ronald W. Maden, died in 1978. She leaves two brothers, Homer L. Warren of Port Orange, Fla., and Gordon B. Crowe of Madera, Massachusetts, 1 Abbey Lane, Middleboro, MA 02346.

PETERSHAM - Funeral services for Kathryn Brunelle, 75, of 53 East St., were held on Tuesday, July 8, 2003 in St. Peters Church. The celebrant was Father Stephen D. Johnson. The organist was Theresa Gabis.
Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery. The bearers were Dick Qualters, David Boeri, John Hyde, Dennis Killay, John Magnino and Michael Schlosser.
The Fiske Funeral Home directed arrangements.

LANCASTER - William “Bill” Moran Turner, 64, of 793 George Hill Rd., formerly of Leominster and Fitchburg, died on Tuesday, July 8, 2003 in his home after a brief illness.
Marcus E. Smith

ATHOL - Marcus E. Smith, 86, of 32 North Common Rd., Westminster, formerly of Athol, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003 in the Keystone Nursing Home, Leominster.
He was born in Montague on Feb. 13, 1917, the son of William and Grace M. (Webster) Smith. He grew up in Athol and was educated in Athol.
Mr. Smith was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Navy. He was involved in the invasion of France on D - Day. He worked at the N.D. Cass Toy Shop and the Ansin Shoe Company both in Athol for several years. He later worked for 30 years at Simplex Time Recorder and retired in 1980.
His wife of 41 years, Elizabeth (Dewitt) Smith who died in February 2001, predeceased him. He leaves two sons, Marcus Smith, Jr. of Westminster, Edson Smith of Clinton, CT; two daughters, Marcia Mattos of Winchendon, Vivian Vuerich of Erving; nine grandchildren; one great granddaughter and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be private.

ATHOL - Raymond M. Briggs, 83, of 54 Holly In The Wood, Daytona Beach, Fla., and formerly of New Ipswich, New York Life Insurance for 30 years, retiring in 1987 to Daytona Beach. He was a Charter Life Underwriter, a member of the Halifax Covenant Church and a former volunteer for Hospice of Volusia/Flagler.
A memorial service will be held in the Halifax Covenant Church at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 10.

ORANGE - Henry P. Doiron, 93, formerly of Orange, died Tuesday morning, July 8, 2003 at the Worcester Skilled Nursing Home, Worcester, after an illness.
He was born and raised in Gardner, a son of David and Marguerite (Bourgue) Doiron and graduated from Florida.
Funeral services will be held from Witty's Funeral Home on Friday, July 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church.
Interment will follow in South Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to going to church.
