STONEHAM - Funeral services for Helena M. (McGaffingan) Swain, 81, who died April 13, 2004 at the UMass Medical Center, Worcester, beloved wife of William M. Swain, were held on Tuesday, April 20 from the A.E. Finnegan & Son Funeral Home, with a Mass in St. Patrick's Church. Burial followed in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

ATHOL - Karl Ostrom, 38, of 113 Cass Circle, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004, from injuries sustained in a car accident on Route 2 in Erving.

PETERSHAM - Clifford E. Upham, 79, of Petersham, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, in Athol Memorial Hospital.

Emma E. Meehan
Retired Salvation Army Officer
ATHOL - Emma E. (Felton) Meehan, 92 of 281 Cottage St., died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, in the Athol Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Nashua, N.Y., and was commissioned as a Lieutenant and stationed at the Athol Salvation Army, where she met her husband and resigned her commission and married Arthur L. Meehan.
She remained a very active member of The Salvation Army, teaching Sunday school, becoming a youth leader and holding many leadership offices.
Mrs. Meehan worked at Athol Memorial Hospital prior to the official opening in 1950 to her retirement in 1974.
She leaves a her husband of 63 years, Arthur L. Meehan; a son, Edward L. Meehan of Athol; three grandchildren, Tina L. Smedley of Athol, Patti - Ellen Nickerson of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., Kenneth L. Meehan of Gardner; four great grandchildren, Heidi, Nathan, Emma and Megan.
Friends may call Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Fiske
Funeral Home, 1356 Main St., Athol.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 1 p.m., at the
Fiske Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
Following the services, a reception will be held at the Salvation Army, 107 Ridge Ave.

Ernest R. Ladd, Sr.
Polaroid Corp Retiree
ATHOL - Ernest R. Ladd, Sr., 65, of 739 Daniel Shays Hwy., died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004 at the Athol Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Waltham on Aug.12, 1938, grew up in Waltham and graduated from Waltham High School. He lived in Tewksbury for 40 years and for the past three years had resided in Athol.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Bennington. He was a devoted employee of the Polaroid Corporation in Waltham for 35 years in research and development, retiring in 2001. He enjoyed camping, traveling and mechanics.
He leaves his companion of 21 years, Marie; a son, Ernest R. Ladd, Jr. and his partner, Diane Stewart of Haverhill; two step - daughters, Debra Breckenridge and Linda Morneault, both of Bradford Coolidge.
Fiske Funeral Home of Athol directed the arrangements.
Albert E. Irons
Avid Bowler, Angler
GARDNER - Albert E. "Buddy" Irons, 68, of 85 Ridgewood Lane, died unexpectantly Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004 in the Heywood Hospital.
He was born in Falmouth on Aug. 18,1935, the son of Albert and Mary (Enos) Irons and had lived in Gardner Bowl Away. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed salt water and fresh water fishing, during both summers as well as ice fishing. He enjoyed camping and building model ships.
Before living in Gardner, he had lived in Baldwinville, Winchendon and Phillipston.
His wife of 37 years, Irene M. (Gervais) Irons, died in 1993.
He leaves two sons, Alan A. Irons of Winchendon and Wayne R. Irons of Athol; two brothers, Paul Irons of Fond - due - lac, Gardner and Nancy Irons of Salem, NH; seven grandchildren, five great - grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Two brothers, Carl Irons and Raymond Irons, predeceased him.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, Feb. 6 in the Smith Funeral Home, 69 Vernon St.
Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5t.

Grace B. MacInnis
Formerly Of Athol
PICAYUNE, Miss. - Grace Blanche MacInnis, 96, of Picayune, and formerly of Athol, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, in Picayune.
A native of Joggins, Canada, she was a nurse and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, Paul MacInnis of Carriere, MS; two daughters, Diann Edmunds of Auburn, ME, and Joan Boutelle of Waynesboro, VA; nine grandchildren; numerous great - grandchildren and one great - great - grandchild.
Funeral services, under the direction of the McDonald Funeral Home, 401 West Canal St., will be held at a later date in the First United Methodist Church in Picayune.
