NEW SALEM - A Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004 at St. Mary's Church in Orange for James M. Bednarz, 47, of 96 Michael Lane, who died unexpectedly on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004 at Athol Memorial Hospital where he was taken by ambulance earlier that morning.
The Rev. Fr. William Lunney was celebrant with the Rev. Fr. Brian McGrath of Westfield as concelebrant. Deacon Joseph Bucci also participated. Theresa Bergquist was the cantor and Janet Paoletti was the organist. The gifts were brought forward by Ann Bednarz and Kathryn Norton. Laurie Sault offered the eulogy.
Following Mass, interment was held in South Cemetery, Orange. The pallbearers were Anthony Haydocy, Timothy Haydocy, Thomas Haydocy, Todd Haydocy, and Chad Blackbird. A reception was held following the committial service at the Haydocy's home on Michael Lane in New Salem.
Witty's Funeral Home, Orange, directed the arrangements.
Dale A. Rule Sr.
U.S. Army Veteran
ORANGE - Dale A. Rule Sr., 54, of the Chicopee Falls section of Chicopee, and formerly of Orange, died on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004.
He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict and attained the rank of specialist 4th grade.
Bacigalupo Services
ATHOL - Funeral services for Alfred J. Bacigalupo, Jr. 56, of 59 Park St., were held Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, in the Fiske Funeral Home. Rev. Thomas S.McKeown, Pastor of the South Athol United Methodist Church, officiated, and Joseph Bezio Jr. co - officiated.
Burial will be at a later date.
Members of the American Legion who provided military honors included; from Athol Post No. 102, Glenn Frenette, commander; Robert Carey, past commander; Victor Litchfield, assistant finance officer; Alfred Souza, past county commander; Peter Krustapentus, adjutant; George Terrien, member; from Orange Post No. 172, Steve Rowe, commander; Mike Nawotny, past commander; from Sons of the American Legion, Clyde Ball.
Mr. Nawotny presented the United States Flag to Mrs. Bacigalupo.

ATHOL - Funeral services for Genevieve J. Drouin, 82, of 128 Main St., were held Monday, Feb. 2, in Higgins - O'Connor Funeral
Home, with the Rev. Fr. Stephen D. Johnson, pastor of Our Lady
Immaculate Church officiating.
A reception followed at New England Seafood Restaurant. Burial will be in Jonas Alliene Cemetery, Royalston in the spring.
Marjorie I. Cullen
Avid Gardener
ATHOL - Marjorie I. (Perkins) Cullen, 80, of 1172 Petersham Rd., died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004 in the Athol Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Orange on March 9, 1923, the daughter of the late Guy and the late Blanche (Prentiss) Perkins. She grew up in Orange and was educated there.
Mrs. Cullen worked at the L.S. Starrett Company, Rays Plastics in Winchendon, Duall Plastics and at Ma Aldens Restaurant in Erving.
She enjoyed painting, playing musical instruments, art, poetry and bingo. She was an avid gardener and loved nature.
She leaves two sons, Glenn P. Cullen of Athol; J.A. Cullen of Northfield; three nieces, Nancy Bigwood of Athol, Rosemary Croze of Athol, Carole Johnson of Tully; two grandchildren; one great grandchild and her cat, Louie. She was predeceased by a brother, Guy Perkins and a sister, Leona Shumway.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, at 10 a.m. at the Fiske Funeral Home with Rev. Harold V. Lloyd, Jr., pastor of the Athol Congregational Church, officiating.
Interment will be private.
MacDonald Services
ORANGE - Memorial services for Walter D. MacDonald, 84, of 35 Red Brook Lane, were held Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2004, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Athol with the Rev. Fr. William B. Hobbs, rector, officiating. The organist was Ron Pryor and a reading was done by Mr. MacDonald's son, Douglas MacDonald.
Interment followed in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol, with members of the Edward H. Phillips American Legion Post 102 firing squad providing military honors, who were: Robert Carey, past commander; Peter Krustapentus, adjutant; Victor Litchfield, past finance officer; Alfred Souza, past Worcester County Commander; and members George Terrien, Bucky LaRose and Brad Coolidge. The American flag was presented to Mr. MacDonald's brother, David MacDonald, and Taps was played by Nathaniel Collette. A reception followed at the Orange American Legion Post.
The Higgins - O'Connor Funeral Home of Athol directed the arrangements.
Kevin R. Ward
Computer Tech
GARDNER - Kevin R. Ward, 58, of 289 Temple St., formerly of 20 Cross Rd., Westminster, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at the Leo P. LaChance Center after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years Janice (Robichaud) Ward, two daughters Karen M. Ward, and Nancy M. Conant, one son - in - law Randy S. Conant, three grandchildren Zachary Russell, Tyler Conant, and Jillian Conant all of Gardner, one sister Mary H. Puff of Troy, MI, and many nieces and nephews.
He was born in Worcester on Jan. 9, 1946, a son of the late Francis P. and Mary H. (Haganey) Ward. He is a graduate of Barre High School the Class of 1964, and served in the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam as a corporal.
He worked for New England Telephone then for Verizon for 30 years before his retirement in 1994 as a computer tech. He recently had worked for Maki's, making windows. He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, and Gardening; he was also a woodworker and loved crossword puzzles.
His grandchildren were his world.
He was a member of the V.F.W. Post in Westminster, the American Legion Post in Ashburnham, and an active member of A.A.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday Feb. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Funeral Services will be on Thursday, Feb. 5, held from the Westminster Chapel of the Sawyer - Miller - Masciarelli Funeral Home, (www.masciarellifamilyfuneralhome.net) 123 Main St., with a Mass at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 10 Church St., at 10 a.m.
Burial will be in the Winchendon Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mr. Ward's name to the Sherman
Dedicated To Elderly
ORANGE - Ida M. Davis - Sherman.
A member of both the North Orange and Jaffery, NH Granges she also was a member of the Templeton Congregational Church.
A caring lady, she enjoyed doing arts and crafts, playing board games, and being with her nephews and nieces.
Survivors include a brother, Clarence Davis of Brunswick, Missouri and Robert Powers of Florida; and many nieces and nephews including Raymond and Deborah Bousquet with whom she had lived with.
A memorial service will be held in Witty's Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 1 p.m.
Interment in Holtshire Cemetery, Orange, will be held in the spring at a date and time to be announced.
There are no calling hours.
Dedinas Services
ATHOL - Funeral services for Tena Dedinas, 85, of 5 Lombard Ave., who died Jan. 30, 2004, were held Monday, Feb. 2, 2004.
A funeral Mass was celebrated in the St. Francis of Assisi Church with Rev. Stephen Johnson, pastor. Theresa Gabis was cantor and organist.
The pall was placed on the casket by her children, Joan Dedinas, Richard Dedinas, and Marion Lamoureux.
A reading was offered by David Ambrose. The gifts were brought forward by Kim Lamoureux and Amy Patel.
Burial followed at Gethsemane Cemetery. The bearers were: William Mazialnik, Michael Mazialnik, Robert Mazialnik, Kevin Lamoureux, David Lamoureux, and David Ambrose.
The J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
