Armand Beauchemin
Local Factory Worker
ATHOL - Armand Beauchemin, 82, formerly of Morton Meadows, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004 in the Leominster Hospital, Leominster after a long illness.
He was born in Athol on Aug. 11, 1921, son of the late Joseph and Emma (Cormier) Beauchemin, and lived here many years. His wife, Helen (McNabb) Beauchemin predeceased him.
Mr. Beauchemin worked at both Cass Toys and Athol Table Co. prior to his retirement. He enjoyed walking and watching television.
He was predeceased by one brother, Arthur Beauchemin of Miami and three sisters, Eva Day and Jeanette Chandler, both of Athol, and Clara West of Chicago. He is survived by a niece, Janet Bartlett of Orange and several other nieces and nephews.
It being his request, the funeral service is private and at the convenience of the family.
There are no visiting hours.
Burial in Silver Lake Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Richard A. Gowey
ORANGE - Richard A. Gowey, 44, of 6 North Main St., died unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004 in the Athol Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Athol on Aug. 23, 1959, son of the late Robert and Jacqueline (Morill) Gowey and lived here all of his life.
He is survived by one son, Christopher A. LeClaire of Fitzwilliam, NH; his longtime companion, Lori B. LaRhette, with whom he lived; six brothers, Robert Gowey Jr. of Ware, Alfred Gowey and Dean Gowey, both of Turners Falls, John Gowey of Lowell, Steven Gowey of Greenfield and Matthew Gowey of Fitzwilliam; three sisters, Pollyanna Zatowski of Fitzwilliam, Shirley Pierce of Richmond and Lisa Pringle of Keene; and one granddaughter, Abigail LeClaire of Fitzwilliam.

WARWICK - Funeral services were held on Wednesday evening, Jan. 7, 2004, in Witty's Funeral Home, Orange, for Kenneth C. Ames, 72, of 10 Echo Park Rd., who died at home on Sunday, Jan. 4 following an illness. The Rev. Candi Ashenden officiated.
Interment will be held in the spring at a date and time to be announced in Warwick Center Cemetery, Warwick.

ATHOL - Funeral services for Bradley W. Schwab, 53, of 186 Wallingford Ave., were held Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004 with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady Immaculate Church. The celebrant was Rev. James Callahan, associate pastor, the concelebrant was Rev. Stephen D. Johnson, pastor. The organistwas Theresa Gabis. The bearers were: Joel Shaughnessy, Thomas Shaughnessy, Henry Shaughnessy, Philip Shaughnessy, William Shaughnessy and Douglas Starrett.

Brian L. Burgess
WEBSTER - Brian L. Burgess, 62, of 17 East Main St., died Jan. 4, 2004 in Hubbard Regional Hospital after being stricken ill at home.
He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

SARASOTA, Fla. - Carolyn Alice Millin, 90, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004 in Sarasota.

ORANGE - Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 5, 2004 in South Cemetery for Wayne Thomas Wetherby, 51, who died on Dec. 31, 2003 in Meadowood Nursing Home, South Hadley following an illness. The Rev. Fr. William Lunney of St. Mary's Church in Orange officiated.

ATHOL - Olive E. (Butler) Marsh, 98, formerly of 35 West St., Petersham, died today, Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004 in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare.
Funeral arrangements under the direction of the Fiske Funeral Home are incomplete.
Stewart Services
ORANGE - Funeral services for James C. Stewart, 80, of 519 East River St., who died Jan. 2, 2004 at Heywood Hospital, Gardner, were held Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004.
Reverend James Callahan, assistant pastor of Our Lady Immaculate Church, celebrated the funeral Mass. Janet Paoletti was the organist and Theresa Bergquist was the cantor.
Readings were shared by Mary Harris and Alan Dodge. The gifts were offered by Marguerite Donnelly and Bonnie Stewart.
Services were conducted by members of the Athol - Orange Elks and the American Legion. The flag was presented to his daughter, Bonnie Stewart.
Burial followed at Gethsemane Cemetery. The bearers were: Alan Dodge, Daniel Donnelly, Ronald Fournier, Donald Gormley, Gregory Stone, Ronald Trinque.

Kenneth C. Ames
Retired; Outdoorsman
WARWICK - Kenneth C. Ames, 72, of 10 Echo Park Rd., died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004 at home following an illness.
Born in Laconia, New Hampshire and attended schools in Manchester.
After high school, he served in the United States Navy from 1948 until being honorably discharged in 1951.
He was married to Pauline E. Lincoln Flagg on June 2, 1974. She died on Aug. 31, 1986.
A resident of Boston for many years, he and Pauline moved to North Adams in 1974 and later moved to Warwick in 1982.
He worked at the Franklin Medical Center from 1981 until his retirement in 1996.
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed the natural surroundings of his home as well as tending to his garden.
Survivors include a son, Kevin C. Ames; a step son, Robert Flagg of North Adams; step daughter Donna Goodell of North Adams; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and his good friend, Art Cleveland of Orange.
He was predeceased by a step daughter, Anna Mae Creps.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday evening, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. in Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange.
Interment will be in the spring in Warwick Center Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday evening prior to the service from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Gardner VNA, 13 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440 or to the donor's choice.

PETERSHAM - Funeral services for Mrs. Marianna I. Berry, 82, of 131 West Rd., who died Jan. 1, 2004, were held Sunday, Jan. 4 at the Unitarian Church and Monday at St. Peter's Church.
Reverends Andrea Anastos and Susan Horgan conducted the ecumenical service on Sunday. The organist was Carolyn Holstein and the soloist was Karen Hager. The piano duet was Carolyn Holstein and Linda Kabo. Group singing was performed by Kay Berry, Robert Hall, Ken Levine, and Linda Kabo.
Ushers were Dionna LaFord and John Magnino.
Pastor Stephen Johnson conducted a funeral Mass at St. Peter's Church on Monday.
Readings were shared by Edward Berry and Alfred Berry.
Emily, Erin and Christopher Berry placed the pall on the casket.
The gifts were offered by Nathan, Meghan and Jenna Berry.
The organist was Theresa Gabis.
Burial followed at West Road Cemetery. The bearers were: Lt. Col. James B. Berry, John L. Berry, Daniel T. Leaders, William F. Leaders, Andrew M. Kennan, Jacob Bohegian.
