WARWICK - Evelyn (Burnes) Fournier, 80, of 295 Gale Rd., died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, in St. Vincent's Hospital, Worcester, after a brief illness.
Born in Orange, Nov. 11, 1923, a daughter of Charles and Annie (Blackmer) Burnes, she grew up in Orange and graduated from Orange High School in 1941.
A longtime resident of Warwick, she served as Town Clerk for 10 years, held various other positions in the town and was poll worker many years.
Prior to her retirement, she was a legal secretary for Attorney Les Black 19 years and had formerly worked as a secretary at the Minute Tapioca Co., Orange and Union Twist Drill Co, Athol.
While living in Hudson 11 years she was employed as executive secretary at Digital Equipment Corp., Maynard and Raytheon Corp., Waltham.
An avid reader, she also enjoyed knitting, was a member of Community Church of North Orange and Tully, Warwick Womens Guild and a Notary Public.
She leaves her husband of 54 years, Arthur J. "Sonny" Fournier; three daughters, Mary Tarves of Berlin, Nancy Nason of Phillipston and Beverly Norcross of Keene, N.H. from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born in Athol on Jan. 28, 1960, the devoted son of Arthur J. and Florence (Guerin) Boudreau. He had lived in Athol all his life, graduating from Athol High School in 1978 and from Mt. Wachusett Community College with an associate’s degree in computer science.
He worked for the Tyco Corporation in Westminster for the past 20 years in the finished goods distribution department. He operated his own small engine repair business and was a certified locksmith. He was a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church. He had a passion for aviation, taking flying lessons, and on a smaller scale, he built and flew remote controlled airplanes. He was a member of the Athol - Orange Model Airplane Club, loved motorcycles, climbing Mt. Monadnock, playing chess, NASCAR racing and was an accomplished drummer, playing with several area bands.
He leaves his father; Arthur Boudreau, with whom he lived; his loving brother, Joseph Boudreau of Athol; two sisters, Shay Kellums and her husband Robert of Colorado Springs, Florida; an uncle, Alfred Boudreau of Orange; and many cousins and friends. His mother, Florence (Guerin) Boudreau died in 1989.
Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, from Higgins - O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St. with the Rev. James B. Callahan, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday, Dec. 5, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Woodard Services
ORANGE - A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, Dec. 3, in St. Mary's Church for Dorothy I. (Canuel) Woodard, 74, of 30 Bacon St., who died Nov. 29, 2003 in Athol Memorial Hospital after being stricken ill earlier at home. The Rev. Fr. William Lunney was the celebrant assited by Deacon Joseph Bucci. Theresa Bergquist was the Cantor and Janet Paoletti was the organist. The gifts were brought forward by her grandchildren, Michael, Robert, Shantee, and Tyler Woodard. Grandaughter, Shantee Woodard, read her poem, "I'll Remember." The pallbearers were John Woodard, Michael J. Woodard, Robert A. Woodard, Tyler Woodard, Dennis Cross, and Steve Pollard. A reception was held in St. Mary's Parish Hall. Interment in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol, is private.

ATHOL - Memorial services for Earl L. Cote, Jr, 53, of 121 Marble St., were held Wednesday, Dec. 3, in Higgins - O'Connor Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fr. James B. Callahan, associate pastor of Our Lady Immaculate Church, officiating. A service and flag presentation was done by members Alfred Souza, past Worcester County Commander; Peter Krustapentus, adjutant; Victor Litchfield, past finance officer; and Robert Carey, past commander, all representing the Edward H. Phillips, American Legion Post No. 102. The American flag was presented to Mrs. Cote by Souza.
Irving J. Donahue Jr.
Philanthropist, Businessman
SHREWSBURY - Irving James (Jim) Donahue, Jr., 81, of Shrewsbury, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at UMass Memorial Medical Center - Memorial Campus. He was chairman of Donahue Industries and with his wife gave generously to local organizations and schools.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Barbara May (Grant) Donahue raised in Athol; two daughters, Susan E. (Donahue) Falzoi, wife of Thomas A. Falzoi of Shrewsbury, and Judith L. Donahue of Shrewsbury; and three grandchildren, Laurie K. Falzoi of Brookline, Debra S. Falzoi of Worcester and Curtis J. Falzoi of Los Angeles. Mr. Donahue was born in Shrewsbury, son of Irving James Donahue and Ethel (Larson) Donahue, and lived here his entire life.
He graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1940 and from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1944. He served in the United States Navy in World War II, after being commissioned at the U.S. Naval Academy. He graduated from Harvard Business School in 1948.
His involvement in the community predates his work as head of Donahue Industries. He was a selectman from 1953 to 1968. He helped bring Selectman - Town Manager and Representative Town Meeting form of government to Shrewsbury in 1954. He served on the Shrewsbury Finance Committee for nine years. He was a former chairman of the board of Worcester Memorial Hospital, a former trustee of WPI, past director of the Worcester Area Chamber of Commerce, past chairman of the Lake Quinsigamond Commission, past president of the Central Massachusetts League of Cities and Towns and past director of the Washington state; his mother and father, James J. and Susan (Leblanc of Fitchburg; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was born in Fitchburg in June 27, 1980 and lived in Lunenburg and Fitchburg for most of his life. He attended Notre Dame High School in Fitchburg and graduated from Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School in 1998 from the Drafting Technology Program. Throughout high school Eric was an active member of the United States Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol. Realizing his life's work by age 15, he completed Para Rescue Organization Course at Kirkland Air Force Base in New Mexico. He also graduated from the United States Coast Guard Basic Training, Cape May, N.J. in 1998. From there he served from September of 1998 to April of 2003 in Alaska. There he served on a small Search and Rescue boat directly resulting in eight lives being saved. He was awarded the Coast Guard Achievement Medal on Oct. 2, 2000. Petty Officer Bourque's other assignments included the USCGC Acushnet, the Long Range Aid Station in St. Paul, Ala., and most recently in USCGC William Tate in Philadelphia, Penn.
Eric lived every day with zest, humor and a strong sense of family. He lived his life to the fullest each day, leaving no dream unchallenged.
Arrangements entrusted to the Lavery - Chartrand Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., Fitchburg with calling hours on Thursday, Dec. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. Full Military Honors will be presented at a graveside service on Friday, Dec. 5, at 3 p.m. in St. Bernard's Cemetery on 4th Ave.

BARRE - Joseph A. Avery, 80, of 40 Washburn Rd., died on Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at the Soldiers' Home in Holyoke.
He was born in Hubbardston, the son of E. Walter and Delia (Armstrong) Avery. He lived in Barre for 55 years.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He worked for the State Department of Public Works, Athol station, for 24 years, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of the Barre Congregational Church.
He leaves his wife of 53 years, Florence M. (Cooley) Avery; a son, Scott J. Avery of Barre; a daughter, Jo - Ann Grimaldi of Holden; a brother, Eustaustace Avery of Gilbertville; a sister, Alberta McCann of Burlington; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be on Monday, Dec. 8, at 10 a.m. at the Barre Congregational Church followed by burial in Hardwick Cemetery.
