ORANGE - A graveside service was held Saturday, April 24, 2004 at the Holtshire Cemetery for Warren Ramsdell, 74, who died Feb. 21, 2004.
Reverend Susan Tarolli, of the United Chuirch of Christ in Putney, Vt., was the celebrant. “Amazing Grace” was sung by Mark Ellis of Petersham.
The color guard consisted of: members of the Orange American Legion, Steve Rowe, Ray Fournier, Leo Barber, Clyde Ball, Edward Bezio Jr., Robert Risatti; and from the Athol American Legion, Robert Carey, Victor Litchfield, Peter Krustapentus, and William Larose. The bugler was Richard Tandy.
The American Flag was presented to Mrs. Anne Ramsdell by Commander Steve Rowe.
The bearers were Gene Strunjo, Corey Goodnow, Scott Songer, Dana Songer, Jay Rossi, Craig Rice, and David Ambrose.
The J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home directed the arrangements.

WESTMINSTER - Eva E. (Gage) Coombs - Lord, 84, of 40 Mian St., died Thursday, April 22, 2004 at the Heywood Hospital, Gardner, after an illness.

Enjoyed Her Family
ATHOL - Dorothy C. (Beers) King, 95, of 821 Daniel Shays Hwy., died Thursday, April 22, 2004 at the Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol.
Born in New Bedford, on April 15, 1909, a daughter of James and Annie (Jardine) Beers, she grew up in New Bedford, Rockford, IL, and Athol. She attended Rockford School of Business, had lived in Athol since 1931, moving to Rockford in 1960 were she lived until returning to Athol in 1979. She enjoyed spending time with her family and playing bingo with her sister.
Her husband of 50 years, Herman King, died in 1981. She leaves a son, Richard King of Rockford, IL; three daughters, Sharon Liston of Denver, CO, Sandra King and Marlene Harris both of Phoenix, AZ; a son - in - law, Leonard E. King of Athol; 11 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. A daughter, Beverly A. King, died Feb. 17, 2003, and a grandson, Larry E. King, died April 15, 2003. She was also predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.
Memorial services will be held Monday, April 26, at noon in the Higgins - O’Connor Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harold V. Lloyd, Jr., pastor of the Athol Congregational Church, officiating.
Burial will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery and there are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer's Unit of Quabbin Valley Healthcare, 821 Daniel Shays Hwy., Athol, MA 01331.
Clifford E. Upham
World War II Veteran
PETERSHAM - Clifford E. Upham, 79, formerly of Petersham and more recently of Applewood Senior Living of Athol, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at the Athol Memorial Hospital after a lengthy period of failing health.
He was the son of Harry and Dora (Bryant) Upham, born April 4, 1925. Mr. Upham attended Petersham High School and then served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a tail gunner/bombardier in the European Theatre of Operation.
He married his high school sweetheart, Julia C. Boyd, in 1946. They lived their entire married life on West Street in Petersham where they raised their six children. He worked for many years for Union Twist Drill in Athol and more recently at MacDonald & Donovan in Barre.
He was an avid sports fan, especially enjoying the Boston Bruins hockey team. He played the saxophone as a young man and maintained a love of Big Band Era music. He was also very talented in mechanics, plumbing and heating, and carpentry.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Julia, and his brothers Donald and Glenn.
He leaves his sisters, Dorothy Temple of Athol and Evelyn McCullough of West Windsor, Vt., and his brother Lloyd, of Athol. He is also survived by his sons Bruce of Middletown, R.I., Glenn of Orange, Dennis of Adamant, Vt., Albert of Gardner, Alan of Newfane, Vt., and by his daughter Diana Mortz of Lincoln, California and moved to Pepperell, where he graduated from North Middlesex High School. He was a Truck Driver, employed by Webster Trucking in Hatfield. He previously worked for Hill Holiday in Boston for 10 years.
Mr. Ostrom enjoyed history, jewelry design, chess, motorcycles and bird watching. He attended the New Life Christian Fellowship Church in Orange and the Cornerstone Assembly of God in Winchendon. He was involved in many church activities.
He leaves his wife of two years, Donna M. (Chartier) Ostrom; a step - daughter, Jennifer Gebo of Athol; a stepson, Michael Gebo of Athol; his mother, Joan C. McDonald and his step - father, Frank McDonald of Nashua, Calif., Kotrina Storm and her husband David of Huntersville, N.C., two step - brothers, Jon McDonald of Apple Valley, N.H.; eight nephews, and one niece.
His father, David H. Ostrom who died in 1970, predeceased him. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 24, at noon at New Life Christian Fellowship Church, 349 South Main St., Orange. Rev. Frank P. Visco, pastor of the New Life Christian Fellowship Church and Rev. Dr. Russell Kulisich, pastor of the Jesus is the Answer Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol.
Calling hours will be held Friday, April 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main Street.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the New Life Christian Fellowship Church 349 South Main St., Orange, MA 01364 or to the Jesus is the Answer Church 246 Moore St., Lowell, MA 01853.

Waye O. Brooks
ORANGE - Graveside services were held in Erving Center Cemetery on Thursday, April 22, for Waye O. Brooks, 98, who died on Feb. 25, 2004 and his wife, Ada E. (Tollerton) Brooks, 93, who died Feb. 3, 2002.
Joseph Bucci, Deacon, from St. Mary's Church in Orange, officiated. Witty's Funeral Home, Orange, directed the arrangements.

ORANGE - Elizabeth A. (Palace) Hozempa, 83, of 383 East River St., died on Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at the University of N.H., James J. Hozempa of Warren, R.I., John B. Hozempa of Orange, and Michael W. Hozempa of Milford; a daughter, Elizabeth J. Johnson of New Salem; a sister, Helen Gorbas of Palm Harbor, Fla.; a brother, William Palace of Holmdel, N.J.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
A son, Richard D. Hozempa, died in 1970.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 24, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Fr. William Lunney officiating. Interment will be private.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the Mass in Witty's Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Orange Senior Center or Meals on Wheels, both at 135 East Main St., Orange, MA 01364.

STONEHAM - Funeral services for Helena M. (McGaffingan) Swain, 81, who died April 13, 2004 at the UMass Medical Center, Worcester, beloved wife of William M. Swain, were held on Tuesday, April 20 from the A.E. Finnegan & Son Funeral Home, with a Mass in St. Patrick's Church. Burial followed in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
