LEVERETT - Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the Plainview Cemetery, Leverett, for Massachusetts Memorial Healthcare - Campus Hospital, Worcester, following an illness. The Rev. Dr. James Linderman, Deacon of Our Lady Immaculate Church in Athol, officiated.
Interment is private.
Following the service, a reception was held at the community center at Riverbend Massachusetts Medical Center, Worcester.
She was born on July 19, 1922, in Winchester, daughter of the late John and Mary Ellen (Collins) McGaffigan. She graduated from St. Patricks High School, Class of 1942.
Cherished mother of Robert W. Swain of Woburn, Donna Ann Swain of Orange, Richard M. Swain of Salem, Calif., and John Welch of Twenty - Nine Palms, N.H.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Massachusetts Memorial Healthcare, Worcester.
Born in Bedford, July 10, 1929, a son of George W. and Mabel (Hamilton) Lehman, Sr., he grew up in Bedford and later moved to Arlington.
He served in the United States Navy Reserves. After his marriage he lived in Billerica 20 years before moving to the Athol Orange area in 1980.
A heavy equipment operator for many years, he worked at Milla's Construction Co., Arlington and later at D'Amafalo Brothers Construction Co. Stoneham. Prior to his retirement in 1983, he was employed at the L.S.Starrett Company.
He enjoyed auto mechanics, bowling, watching wrestling, home building and repairs.
A former Citizens Band Radio operator, he had been a member of the CB Radio Club.
He leaves his wife of 53 years, Jeanette M. (Palladino) Lehman; two sons, Lawrence Lehman of Townsend and Daniel Lehman of Lowell; a daughter, Cynthia Valcour of Lowell; four brothers, Charles Lehman of Lowell, Robert Lehman of Buzzards Bay, Richard Lehman of Erving and James Lehman of Billerica; four sisters, Katherine King of Lowell, Mary Proctor of Billerica and Carol Smith of Blackstone and Margaret Caloggero of Virginia Beach, Va.; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; many nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur Lehman and John Lehman.
A funeral liturgy will be held Friday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Witty's Funeral Home. Burial will be private.
Calling hours are Friday from 5:30 to 7:30p.m.
In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, 01701 or a charity of one's choice.
