WENDELL - Warren S. Oliver Jr., 66, of 68 Depot Rd., died Wednesday, March 31, 2004 in the Heywood Hospital, Gardner.
Born in Wendell, March 8, 1938, a son of Warren S. and Odessa J. (McLean) Oliver Sr., he graduated from the New Salem Academy in 1955 and lived in Wendell all his life.
After serving in the Calif.; foster children, Gloria Conkey of Belchertown and Phyllis Hubbard of Ware; a nephew Kevin Tenney of Wendell and a niece, Diane Massachusetts and Warwick highway departments.
He was an enthusiastic family man and devoted husband who enjoyed the outdoors and helping others.
His hobbies included snowmobiling, collecting dye cast metal bank trucks and restoring pedal cars and trucks.
He leaves his wife of 35 years, Judith A. (Davis) Johnson, a son, Daniel F. Johnson and wife, Beth of Warwick; two daughters, Pamela A. Johnson of North Oxford, Melinda S. Gibbons and husband, Brandon of Warwick; three grandchildren, Sarah Johnson, Marina Gibbons and Cody Gibbons, all of Warwick; a brother, Van Johnson of Warwick; four sisters, Pearl Cullinane of Norwood, Barbara Walker of Warwick, Helen Staiger of Bernardston, Joy Risatti and husband, Don of Orange; an Aunt, Sadie Tucker of Orange; many nephews and nieces.
A sister, Janet Schiappa, died in 1997.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 1, at 2 p.m. in the Warwick Unitarian Church. The Rev. Dennis Roth of First Congregational Church, West Brattleboro, Vt., will officiate. Burial will be in Center Cemetery.
Calling hours at tonight, Wednesday, from 7 to 9 in Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange. In lieu of flowers donationa may be made to Warwick Community Scholarship Fund, in care of Arland G. Day Jr., 313 Orange Rd., Warwick, MA 01378.
Thomas F. Hayden II
Lifelong Athol Resident
ATHOL - Thomas F. Hayden II, of 141 Lake Ellis Rd., died suddenly at his home Saturday night, March 27, 2004. He had just turned 60 years old.
Born in Worcester on March 11, 1944, he was the son of the late Howard M. and Irene (Ferguson) Hayden. Tom grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol - Royalston Regional High School and Worcester State College.
He was employed at Niagara Cutter and previously worked at the Union Twist Drill Company and the L.S. Starrett Co.
Tom had a friendly greeting for everyone and a quick dry wit with a comeback always at the tip of his tongue. He was an accomplished guitar player and belonged to the Athol area amateur radio club, the Gold Miners Club, the Odd Fellows Club, among other area clubs. He loved to hunt and fish, as long as he didn’t have to kill anything, and had recently taken up the game of golf.
He is survived by two sisters, Dorothy E. Hayden of Royalston and Mary Wheeler and her husband, John of Phillipston, and a niece, Elizabeth Wheeler of Athol. He also leaves an uncle, aunt and cousin, Carl, Phyllis and Colleen Hayden in the Athol area, and an aunt, Dorothy Ferguson of Worcester.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., on Thursday, April 1, followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady Immaculate Church at 11a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are from 7 - 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Athol Public Library, 568 Main St., Athol, MA 01331, the smoking cessation program at Athol Memorial Hospital, the American Diabetes Association, Always and Forever Program, attention: ADA Web, PO box 2680, North Canton, Gardner and graduated from Washington, DC, Robert Goodwin of Mount Airy, NC; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest J. Bobilin Sr., who died in 1979, and by a sister, Phyllis Arnold.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 2, at 10 a.m. at the Fiske Funeral Home, Athol. Burial will follow in Tully Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, April 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
