Alice C. King Greanier
Formerly Of Petersham
NAPLES, Fla. - Alice (Allie) C. King Greanier, 88, went to her rest under the kind hands of Hospice House North, Naples, on Tuesday, May 11, 2004.
She was born July 4, 1915 to Louis and Mary McCormick King and raised in Petersham, Mass. She met and married Theodore A. Greanier (Ted) while working at the Lord Jeffrey Inn in Amherst, Mass.
Besides being a loving wife and mother, she also held several interesting positions during their married life including switchboard operator for the town of Petersham, waitress at the White Pillars, and for many years Nursing Assistant on the night shift at Athol Memorial Hospital.
She leaves three children and their spouses: Judy (Ron) Smith of Ft. Myers, Fla., Jim (Dee) Greanier of Holly, Calif., formerly of Orange, died Jan. 21, 2004 in Little Company of Mary Hospital, Torrance, California in 1957, she was employed at the Mattel Corporation of Redondo Beach for a brief time.
She resided in Redondo Beach 21 years, and Torrence for 11 years before moving to Carson 15 years ago where she was living when she passed away.
A lady of good humor who enjoyed people and many friends, she traveled throughout the United States on many trips with her daughter.
She liked big band music especially listening to Lawrence Welk, was an enthusiastic Red Sox fan and was known for cooking her famous meatloaf and American chop suey meals.
Her survivors include a son, Jim Kimball of Brea, Calif.; three grandchildren Teri, Chuck and Chris; three great grandchildren, Jason "JT", Anthony and Alyssa.
A son, Wayne Kimball, died in 1953.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 15 at 11 a.m. in Witty's Funeral Home. The Rev. Harold V. Lloyd, Jr., Pastor, of the Athol Congregational Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in South Cemetery.
A reception will follow in the Athol Congregational Church Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to American Lung Association, 35 Harvard St., Worcester, MA. 01609 or a charity of one's choice.
McGuirk Services
ATHOL - Funeral services for Maxine B. (Tatro) McGuirk, 80, formerly of 59 Cottage St., who died May 5, 2004, at the Quabbin Valley Healthcare, were held Monday, May 10.
The Rev. Stephen Johnson, Pastor, celebrated the funeral Mass at the St. Francis of Assisi Church. Theresa Gabis was the organist and cantor.
The eulogy was offered by Rob North, Gail Brown, Tracy LaRose, and Pam Shinkle. Readings were shared by Sarah Shinkle and Emily LaRose. The gifts were brought forward by Thomas LaRose and Tracy LaRose.
A service was conducted by the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 102 members: Brenda Smith, Kelly Thompson, Ruth Carey, Marguerite Langlois, and Jean Langlois. Mrs. McGuirk was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Burial followed at Silver Lake Cemetery. The bearers were: John CampBasso, William LaRose, Robert North, Keith McGuirk, Scott McGuirk and Gary McGuirk.
The J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Meattey Services
ERVING - Funeral services were held on Monday, May 10, 2004 in Witty's Funeral Home, Orange, for Douglas H. Meattey, 65, of 10 West Main St., who died at home on Thursday, May 6, following an illness. The Rev. Gordon Newell officiated, along with Associate Pastor, Tina Peters. Interment was in Erving Center Cemetery.
The pallbearers were George Burnett, Mark Burnett, Jay Burnett, Herman Meattey, Almon Meattey, and Alan Mailloux. Following the committal service, a reception was held at the Meattey's home on West Main Street.
Goss services
ATHOL - A funeral Mass for Donna M. (Porter) Goss, 45, of 614 Lenox St. was held Monday, May 10, 2004, in the Our Lady Immaculate Church with the Rev. Fr. James B. Callahan, associate pastor, officiating. The organist and soloist was Theresa Gabis.
Burial followed in Silver Lake Cemetery and the bearers were; Joseph Boudreau, Kyle Thibault, David Farnsworth, Paul Chandler, Phil Harris and Phil Bennington. A reception followed at the Wheelerville Community Club in Orange.
Among Donna's survivors is a granddaughter, Dakotah Bailey of Leicester.
The Higgins - O'Connor Funeral Home of Athol was in charge of arrangements.

WARWICK - There will be a committial service held on Saturday, May 15, 2004 in the Warwick Center Cemetery, Warwick, at noon for Frederick H. Johnson Jr., 61, of 121 Old Winchester Rd., who died on March 30, 2004 at Athol Memorial Hospital after being stricken ill earlier at home. The Rev. Dennis Roth of First Congregational Church in West Brattleboro, Vt. will officiate.
Witty's Funeral Home, Orange, is directing the arrangements.
Benoit Services
WARWICK - A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 15, in the Warwick Center Cemetery at 11 a.m. for Emily L. (Hubbard) Benoit, 86, of 24 Kirk Rd., who died on Jan. 17, 2004 in Harborside Applewood Healthcare, Winchester, Gardner after a short illness.
She leaves her husband of 38 years, Joseph W. Stankaitis Sr., of Westminster; a son, Joseph W. Stankaitis Jr., of Phillipston; two daughters, Shelley LaBrecque of Gardner and Rachel Stankaitis and Rebecca Stankaitis, both of Phillipston.
Mrs. Stankaitis was born in Worcester, on Oct. 20, 1946 and was raised in Templeton before moving to Westminster in 1966. She attended Narragansett Regional High School.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 12, at 11 a.m. in the Westminster Chapel of the Sawyer - Miller - Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 123 Main St., Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Gardner.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be held on Tuesday, May 11, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

ORANGE - A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, May 8 in St. Mary’s Church for Bertha M. (Blanchard) Brown, 87, of 383 East River Street, who died on Thursday, May 6, in Athol Memorial Hospital following an illness.
The Rev. Fr. William Lunney officiated. Janet Paoletti was the organist and Theresa Bergquist was the cantor. The pallbearers were John Lachance, Joseph Lachance, Jeffrey Lachance, and Jamie Chattman. A reception followed the Mass at Eddie’s Restaurant in Athol. Interment will be Wednesday, May 12 in St. Mary of the Assumption Cemetery in Milford.
Witty’s Funeral Home, Orange, directed the arrangements.
